    She actually carries her eggs with her so they get fresh, oxygenated water, and protects them against predators, which is when she stops eating. She dies after the eggs hatch due to starvation or self mutilation. Almost like postpartum due to the intense hormones that continue after laying the eggs. The hormones have so much insulin and cholesterol that they trigger a system shut down. She survives just long enough for her eggs to hatch.

She doesn’t eat during the entire brooding period and uses up all of her energy stores guarding them, keeping them clean, & blowing oxygenated water over them consistently. It’s actually kinda beautiful, but also ironically tragic.

      @@skypuppeteer I’m saying, in response to the assertion that this is a blanket octopus, this would have to be offspring because a full grown blanket is the size of a small country villa. But I’m pretty sure I covered this already. The only outstanding issue I know of, is whether it IS a blanket.

    • @skypuppeteer
      @skypuppeteer 2 месяца назад +1

      @@wasteddude9387 Based on very basic quick research (so it may not be super accurate, my apologies on that), a lot of sources say females can get _up to_ 6 feet long, not that all of them will be six feet long.
      Also, there's nothing super close in water to them that we can use as reference for their actual length/size, so they very well could be of this length, or close to it, but we have no point of reference.
      They could be a baby, they could be a mother, but I'm just going to leave it up to an actual marine biologist, should there be one in this video's comment section

    • @wasteddude9387
      @wasteddude9387 2 месяца назад

      @@skypuppeteer [FINAL REVISION] You’re right. Many sources DO specify about six feet for the female length, but that doesn’t include the detachable “blanket” which can be huge. The animal in the subject video IS a Blanket Octopus with no blanket. First is a link to the video I recalled seeing: ruclips.net/video/IJwGpZ38JHE/видео.htmlsi=JZaX9G3xgeIJq8iH.
      Next is a giant detached blanket: ruclips.net/video/GWL-SrdGckM/видео.htmlsi=WHsyT3waGlpR7OIg
      So here’s an update to the previous “So here’s the deal”. Necessary because all of the Deepstaria Enigmatica Jellyfish information was wrong by virtue of the fact that it was based on a wiki reference that began as follows:
      “The Deepstaria enigmatica has a wide, thin bell (up to 60 cm or 2 ft),[1] transparent in appearance, which undulates as the jellyfish moves.”
      The issues are that the animal in that video is HUMONGOUSLY bigger than two feet, AND its movement through the water is completely contrary to the specified undulating motion of a jellyfish.
      [The following content below is superseded by the content above.]
      So here’s the deal. Not only did I do the homework for what I said (then and now) but you’re the one who came at me now, without doing your homework. I hate people who confront others without doing their homework. It means somebody always has to do all the homework. Even though most conversations involve more than just me. Back then, nobody guessed Deepstaria Enigmatica. The consensus was Blanket Octopus. Since then, the Deepstaria took center stage. So when I originally wrote the stuff you didn’t approve of, everybody thought it was the right information. Then you get in my face without doing any research, and you happened to have a point now, some years later. So yes, now it turns out that video I based my original comments on, was about a jellyfish. And the current information is that this video is about the adult female Blanket Octopus. We know that because the sheet on the octopus is a very unique feature on a rare animal. PLUS the doctor’s long shadow falls right by the octopus. We know his shadow is long because a noontime shadow would be short. The octopus swims right past that shadow and the doc is probably around six feet tall give or take. And I’m doing all this extra work just to be honest and because you only want to invest time and effort if it’s not much, but you got no problem investing your foot in my door. Do me a favor. Stay on your side of the fence unless you’re prepared to do your part of the work.
