WORLD'S BEST SCREWDRIVER!! Rolgear 15-in-1 & bit drivers! MADE IN CANADA

- Опубликовано: 7 июл 2024
- About a year ago a few viewers wrote in and suggested that we take a look at the new screwdriver being offered by Rolgear. At that time we totally forgot about it, but earlier this year we ran across them again on Amazon and decided to buy one of the 15-in-1 models for a comparison video.
Long story short --- after we got it in, we were sold! This is absolutely our favorite ratcheting screwdriver that we have ever used!
Although we initially planned to only feature the 15-in-1, after more research it turns out that they also sold 2 different ratcheting bit drivers on Amazon also.....a 4" & 6" shank version. We bought a combo pack of those too & all together spent around $80 for all 3 of these.
Using them is great --- the unique roller bearing mechanism has no slop & is totally silent. Back-drag is eliminated since it is not using a standard tooth/pawl setup like other versions on the market.
Our top picks would be :

What kind of screwdrivers/bit drivers are you using? Leave a comment below & let me know that make/model & if you would recommend it to other people --- I may end up buying one to check out!
Best tool reviewer on RUclips. That is all.
Agreed!
Without a shadow of a doubt! Many of my purchases in the past year or so have been based on recommendations from this channel and also reviews from 'Ultimate Handyman'.
Absolutely
Big AMEN on that!
agreed, I always love these reviews.
I bought this on your recommendation and wow. It's magical. I can't even handle how cool it is. Thanks for the tip!
Your videos are always informative and helpful. Thx. It adds to my library of knowledge.
The insights in the video are pretty impressive, especially the cons. I wouldn’t have thought of those points. Great video!
I just bought the three kobalt ones you reviewed XD You are killing my checking account sir. I need to check these out now too!
Great review, as always. Never been a big fan of ratcheting screwdrivers but they look pretty nice.
I've been using the Snap on screw driver for more than 20 yrs and it's still the first thing I grab. I can't say anything bad about it. not being able to use standard bit in the big handled screwdriver sends me to the Snap on every day. love your videos keep up the good work.
Mine will be here tomorrow....can't wait to check it out....
Rolgear are amazing, everyone should have one.
Such a professional review! I've been using E-design's screwdriver for a certain amount of time. That's also not bad
I have the same snapon driver you showed, it's the best screw driver out there.
My only complaint is the grease used to lube the mechanism does not withstand heat, I left mine in a hot car for a few days and it became so stiff the ratcheting feature was unusable. I had to take it apart (which I don't recommend doing because there are small components inside that can be easily lost.) The mechanism isn't simple to put back together either, took me a good half hour to figure out. After relubing the thing worked better than new.
I have to agree with you, this is by far the best ratcheting screwdriver that you will find. It takes a little to learn how to set it….. thanks for the review!
PB Swiss screw driver. Built extremely well and grips are just great. It feels that the screw driver became part of your hand. The bit quality is second to none because it's diamond cut.
I have the same snap-on model screwdriver you showed in this video. I love it and have found that the ratchet is fine enough for nearly all I need to do. I have had it for about 30 years and use it a lot . The bits that came with it are hard and grip fasteners really well. I would recommend it to anyone who drives a lot of screws. by hand.
Great review! Nice coverage of both pros and cons.
Thanks!
I never thought of buying a ratcheting screwdriver until Istepped onto this video. I still haven't ordered it but it's on my list for my next tool haul. Seems interesting and Canada has a special place in my heart (and I live in Europe).
I carried one of the 15-in-1 Rolgears for a while. I retired it because the bits constantly fall out when the driver is stored vertically in my tool belt. There's not enough friction inside the bit storage part. This isn't an issue if stored flat in a tool drawer. I now carry the ubiquitous Picquic Sixpac, which also happens to be made in Canada.
Dude, you're making me broke. Haha.
Me2!
Do what ChrisFix does, and I now do as well. Get a quote for a job, compare it to the cost of doing it solo, including the price of tools. If it is economically viable, buy the tools you need and do the job, saving money and also getting new tools!
I've also started helping friends and family as I learn to fix cars, motorcycles and my current favorite... scooters! I just tell them to get me a quote, and I tell them if I can do the job for less, and sometimes they even buy me the tools I need (included in the price of the job.) and so, I make money, learn, stock up on tools, and I'm actually saving money on tools as well! Because I buy them as I need them, and only when it will save me money.
This works, and I now have a pretty great tool collection and I have spare money for my hobbies. Honestly ChrisFix helped me big time with that advice, and these reviews save me from buying junk, or overpaying for the same junk!
Good luck. Happy shopping.
The Rolgear is so good! just got my first one today!
I’ve been using several lengths of the Snap On ratcheting screwdrivers and love them. I’m more than happy to give these a try though as I’m always looking to improve on my tools.thanks for the video I really like the way you do em.
I only recently encountered your channel. This review is so much better than some of your others because you actually used the tools for a while. It really shows
An insult masquerading as a compliment....nice.
I was being sincere. I apologize if you usually do reviews where you actually use the tool, but that didn't seem to be the case in the few I've seen. I was trying to encourage yoiu to do more "use" reviews, because that's where the rubber hits the road for me.
Using the Milwaukee 48-22-2302 10-in-1 ratcheting screwdriver. It came with 7, 3-1/2" bits to swap with but I also like that I can use those bits on my drill. May not be as good as Rolgear for double the number of bits but I like this one for now. Great review!
Thanks for the review!
I really like the screwdriver and the action of the direction selector. I install audio visual equipment and use the screwdriver daily... All day... My go-to screwdriver used to be a Williams ratcheting model(the snap on clone, but half the price.) I've tried every new ratcheting screwdriver I've come across and nothing has replaced the Williams, until now. The Rolgear multi-bit is now my daily driver, with one modification. I replaced the bits with Picquic 3" bits. They are the same length and fit in the handle perfectly, but they are not double ended. The bottom of each bit is flat and the magnet holds the bits much more securely. I also magnetized the bits with a wiha magnatizer, so they pick-up and hold screws. It's only been two weeks, we'll see if the Rolgear holds up to daily use.
10 month update - the rolgear 15 in 1 is still my DAILY driver and has held up to daily use. The mechanism has only failed to grab a few times out of tens of thousands of rotations. I don't recommend the bits but I'm ordering a second one because my helper and I always grab for this one 1st. Also Going to order the 6" bit driver to replace the Williams ratcheting screwdriver. Thx RTR and thx Rolgear!
I use the Milwaukee brand ratcheting screwdrivers. One is full size with 6" bits, and the other is a stubby that will accept any 1/4" bit. I'm pretty satisfied with them.
I got one years ago at lee valley , great for those little hose clamps
Just got the Klien stubby ratching multi-screw driver and it's great.
Yes... I've used them before! The minor annoyances that you mentioned, were nothing more than just that. I would 100% recommend these for a professional or just and a casual user!
I want your Sinclair sign SOOOOO much. It's in great shape.
Well thanks for another of your great videos, I currently use the Milwaukee 10 in 1 ratcheting screwdriver and the same happens with the 1" bit which recesses into the shank as well but I'm able to use the socket bits to make a nut driver, a manual drill using drill bits or spade bits. Basically I carry my bit holder case.
OH CANADA!!! If they are as well constructed as their television programs, I'm in!!!
Rolgear every time, superior quality build and smooth as silk operation, a tool for every maintenance guys tool belt, I hear they are coming to the UK soon too !!
As someone who owns the 4" shaft one, overall they are good. The ratcheting mechanism is holding up under heavy use. However, in contrast to my Snap on ratcheting driver, the markings on the Rolgear handle and direction selector will wear off pretty easily. That's an additional thing they've got to work on besides what has already been stated in the video. But otherwise, every time I need a ratcheting screwdriver, I grab the Rolgear instead of my Snap on. The Snap on one ought to have a much better bit holding system for how overpriced it is. Also, there are definitely cheaper places to get the Rolgear. Lee Valley sells them for $14.50 plus shipping if you just want the driver.
Great tool review nice screwdrivers 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼✌️
I really hope manufacturers are paying attention to reviews like this. The issues you point out with their products are valid and generally would be really simple to address in a minor revision. The bit holder issues and the shank size on the smaller driver are pretty unacceptable.
The good news is that they do....hopefully the "suggestions" that I put into this video will help steer them in a different direction with future revisions on these. Time will tell.
If nothing else, it's certainly promising that they're paying enough attention that you at least know they're paying attention.
I guess if you didn't care about the finish you could simply grind down the front to reduce the depth of the bit driver recess. I don't see the purpose in having the extra deep recess, unless they didn't think the metal was strong enough.
Too bad they didn't put a hex drive on the back end of the screwdriver so you could use the box wrench for driving torque and also benefiting from the unidrive mechanism.
Although the drawback that precludes doing that is probably the drive mechanism wouldn't withstand the abuse from people that would undoubtedly push it beyond it's capability and try getting a warranty claim.
I'm using the Snap On and couldn't be more satisfied. When I started having problems with the ratcheting mechanism (after 10 years), I called Snap On and they sent me a replacement within days...no questions asked.
mbcris the true test is will it hold up over the years..and he has tested the Williams and that gets you the snap-on at less than the rolgear. and there's
resale value . snap on ratcheting screwdriver is king of resale value.
Wrong. You'll lose at least half the value of whatever Snap on tool you're talking about when you sell it used. Anyone with a few brain cells wouldn't pay more than that for a used Snap on tool. You can buy two Williams ratcheting screwdrivers for the price of a Snap on one.
CarEnthusiast I myself bought the Williams screwdriver I agree. but if you get the right deal on used Snap-on tools they will hold their value.. they're like a Rolex Submariner get the right deal on a used Submariner and it goes up in value..
That indicates Snap-on tools have a bottom limit in the used market, where you won't lose any money when buying at that low level and then reselling. Question is how much do you lose from a new purchase though.
DTR RTD some of there tools new are crazy insane high, and have gone up a lot in the past 5 to 7 years . I think it's unjustifiable consider in there hasn't been any great leaps in the economy to justify your tools going up 30 and 40% that has risen the used prices up.. and I am now discovering there are Williams equivalent to many of their tools and oftentimes way cheaper. you just got a scan around different places and see what the going prices on whatever you're looking for and you'll see what's up
I use Lutz 15-in-one, I have been very happy with the quality and after several years of use had no problems.
I am an electrician in Canada, these are the only ratcheting screwdrivers that I use, I've had them for years without any problems. At first it took a little getting used to the double ended bits, but now I can pretty much select them blind folded.
Using Milwaukee currently, no complaints!
Frankie Gambino same here
still the case? I hear the Milwaukee's a p.i.t.a. to remove the bits. Yay or nay?
I like the craftsman extreme grip ratcheting screwdriver. Uses standard 1 inch 1/4 shank bits stored inside the handle and has an adjustable magnetic collar that slides up and down to really hold your screws in place. Also the grip feel is very nice.
I've been using the bahco 808050 for about 7 years & it's never let me down but recently I'm working with alot of panels & adaptable boxes that have deep recessed screws So the bit holder collar on it means I can't get access to them. Plus you know how it is when you love tools, any excuse! So I've swapped to a wera 816ra which is pretty much a ratcheting handle with there rapidaptor but holder on the end. It can be used as a stubby ratchet driver for tight fitting spaces but mostly I use weras 89mm length bits making it a full length driver. The whole set up feels versatile & quality & I'm really impressed with it so far.
I have multiple ratcheting screwdrivers but my favorite is the Snap-on SGDMRCE4 ratcheting 5-position screwdriver that converts from straight to 30 L/R or 60 L/R 90 degree and you can apply a tremendous amount of torque in tight places. T handles come in handy also.
I have quite a few different makes. Depends on what you're trying to turn.
Best all-rounder is the Snap-On SSDRMR4B, bought one new, about 30 years old now, got warranty replacement because I lost the little ball (and I was very forthcoming to them I was responsible). The Williams one is very close, but missing knurled shaft.
The stubby Snap-On is also great.
Schroder made a very strong 1.184.1 ratcheting screwdriver, that made a lot of sense for driving wood screws/cabinetry. Looks like a guy on ebay (who lives in Canada) is clearing out a few of these for half the original price.
Have a Wiha T-handle that stays in a drawer. They improved the shank since I bought mine, but that doesn't help me, where the shank always slipped out of the handle after tightening each and every screw. Very tiring to rescue and reassemble. It has a zero-slip ratchet.
HF makes an okay T-handle ratchet, novel thing is the variable-length shank, which helps clear some metal cabinet obstructions. It also doesn't disappear when left out at work.
Any others have gone to trash or donated.
I have not used or owned a set of the Rolgear screwdrivers but I will buy a set and definitely will put them to the test.
I'm using the Megapro insert bit driver, also made in Canada. Super silky ratchet mechanism, I'd guess maybe 5 degrees per click.
Most of the Megapro lineup uses proprietary bits, like the double ended ones here, but the model I bought uses standard 1" insert bits and provides storage in the handle for a dozen bits.
Really great screwdriver, and quite a good price.
Great tool advice
Thank you for making these great tool review presentations. It's a big help for us in making smarter tool purchasing decisions, and helping stay within budget limitations.
Those look legit. Great tip on the more complete kit.
Haha thanks Brian :)
Nice review
Thing is, the double ended bits stab your palm when you're wailing on it, something the Megapro ratcheting doesn't.
3:30 Yes!!! Finally a fidget spinner for adults!!!
2 month edit... The bit holder in the screwdriver handle is absolute garbage. It's an o-ring. The magnet towards the top isn't strong at all. The ratcheting aspect still makes it great, but if they use Megapro's bit storage, they'd be AMAZING!
Michael Wong what's wrong with us adults playing with the ones out there already....?
they look cool
Wow for the money 1/2 the price of others I've seen . Awesome 👍👍
Everything is half price in the USA ;) haha
Picked up a Klein stubby ratcheting bit driver. Works well. Hate the fact the bit size is not the common 1/4 hex but it does seem to work well.
Been using the 15 in 1 screwdriver for a little over a year. The best bar none.
A buddy of mine has one of the 6 inch Rolgear's and I'm not a fan. The directional mechanism is sloppy and hard to set, and there is a lot of play in the shaft. The cushion on the handle has also started to come off, but that could be because of the chemicals we deal with in the aviation industry. I must admit that the wrench provision is a really handy feature.
I have a stubby Snap On that I use fairly often, but mostly because of its size makes it useful in areas that other drivers can't get to. My favorite ratcheting screwdriver has to be the Megapro Automotive though. That thing is as close to perfect as a tool can get.
Great tool review! Come on, Friend, onto continuing the torque wrench comparisons.
I think I keep using my snap on ratcheting screwdrivers they just work and feel perfect to me.
I noticed you using the Orbis angled-head long nose pliers there, do you have a review done or in the works for those?
Great video left like
Excellent video Daniel!
Thanks Walter!
I have a couple of older American-made roller drive screwdrivers, and I use them regularly. I've been told that they can wear out, but I've had the newest one for over 20 years (I bought the first one, then went back and bought 4 more, 3 as gifts, and a second for me, and then a few years later added a third one for myself). I would love to have a stubby one, and it should be possible as mine have a lot of storage in the handles, but I've never seen them, and I haven't seen these drivers for sale anyplace in 15 years.
Love my gearwrench nut driver kits.
Awesome review! Just cancelled my Amazon Williams WRS-1 order and ordered the Rolgear 15 in 1 instead. 👍
Like the ratchet solution.
Cons:
Magnetic bitholder
Not easy to change rotation with the collar solution instead of a thumbswitch. But I see that it might be a design limitation.
Do the 1" hex bits work in the 4" and 6" bit drivers? Great vid! Very informative and concise. Thank you!
A new review on tools I was looking into? Made my day
Damnit, I should have thought of that. Someone took 2 anti reverse bearings from a fishing reel.
I bought one, not long after a got it the magnet feel out. Now the bits just fall out.
I have the 15 in 1 and pretty much hate it. It has all the essential bits I wanted and it has a great on way mechanism but as a screwdriver, it aggravates me to use it. The bits are not engaged far enough in the end, they are not held strongly with the magnet because they are double ended and they are rearly captured by the small handle mounted magnets before I drop them. If you had to have just one screwdriver, this would have you covered for bit variety I have many screwdrivers and my go-to is the Pic quick 6 pack. It's simplicity at its best. Very strong bit hold and the on-board bits stay put.
Definitely want to pick one of these ratcheting screwdrivers I currently use the Snap On one you showed as a comparison and I have used it for at least 15 years and it's still going strong.
I have owned and used Snap-On Ratcheting screwdrivers for years on Aircraft, but I did purchase a Craftsman a while back and it's similar in operation and feel but only 1/2 the price. The biggest difference with the craftsman is the bit storage is limited and the direction selector is counter intuitive. I really like the newer Snap-On Ratcheting screwdrivers with the removable shanks, which gives a lot of versatility and can save space if one needs several different lengths. My only complaint about Snap-On's removable shank drivers is they only come with the rubber coated handle, which either seems to get slimy or sticky.
YES! Go Canada GO...Hey, at least it is a lot better than "Made in China"..great video...
Chanel lock makes a very nice ratcheting bit driver mine came from sam's club a few years ago w/ security bits and nut drivers and a ratcheting stubby driver
Cool~ Personally, I like the pocket screwdriver of e-Design
Kobalt double drive screw driver use it every day. Despite a few bits breaking off in fastener and having to warrantied it one time it's great even been dropped in water
Does anyone know if the double ended bits are magnetic? Like will screws stick to the tips of these bits??
Good review.
Probebly one of the best multi screws... still have to handle the weight of the tool...better no having more than 30 screws to do !
That handle is genius
I have gearwrench ratcheting screwdriver set and it is great
I use a cheap screwdriver: $ 2.99 or something.
I use this because not only does it have some bits in the handle but also some sockets.
This makes it priceless as space and weight on my belt are at a premium.
I'd just use a non-ratcheting driver like the Picquic. It doesn't use the small bits either, but on the plus side the bits are impact rated and can be used directly in a drill as well.
man I hope they put their mechanism in wrenches, gear wrench is ok and all, but rolgear wrenches would be a dream.
Phillip Stearns especially if they made 6pt ones.
Phillip Stearns I agree on the Kobalt wrenches. I absolutely love the 0° arc and it's saved me much pain already. No regrets
Sprag/cam clutch bearings aren't as strong and durable under high torque as a rugged ratcheting teeth design. That's why you don't see them being used more widely in hand and power tools where high torque is being required in a small package. Otherwise they are great for applications within their limits, for a screwdriver or 1/4" ratchet.
I have used the Snap On one like shown for 25 years but bought a Kobalt sprag roller type for around 25 bucks, I prefer it.
I can't find the Ryobi bit set on home depot's website. did they discontinue it?
I'm curious, is the handle insulated so that it could be used as an electricians tool?
I use the milwaukee ratcheting screwdriver. it has just as much play/slop as a snapon version.
Do you have/have you done any reviews on palm ratchet wrenches?
I'm rebuilding a few scooters and it's a bit too tight for regular wrenches, and that seemed like a good idea, but I don't know how I feel about a palm wrench, I feel like you would have no torque, but to be fair... not much on a scooter needs much torque lol
I see the title says 'Best screwdriver in the world' but it seems you spelt Wera wrong! ;)
+unicorn7337 hahaha
unicorn7337 is it spelled PB Swiss?
defiantly spelled "snap-on" wrong.
skifeizzle Definitely spelled "definitely" wrong
snap on no lol. Klein drivers
I have this screw driver it's perfect for round the house but keep it clean they do gum up its not impossible to clean just time consuming. But ya for what it is its a great product.
How does the philips bit compare to the snap on philips?
You should do a review on the wiha ultradriver. Not ratcheting, but more bits.
Looks just like a Sprag Clutch... as used in hundreds of millions of starter overrun clutches, automatic transmissions, helicopter autorotate clutches, and tons of aerospace applications, to name but a few. The patent doesn't use the verbiage 'Sprag', but I'll bet a 10 spot thats exactly what it is. Nothing wrong with it, long as it doesn't start slipping once contaminated with everyday shop spooge & grime. Will watch...I want one if they exhibit sustained durability/robustness.
Well....if it works for hundreds of millions, so low torque screwdriver applications should be just fine....
Wow... You impressed everyone with your knowledge of aerospace stuff. The rest of us are so stupid.
Should be called the world's best Harry homeowner screwdriver!
I'd like to see a direct comparison to Wera. Wera has been my go-to for premium screwdrivers for a while now.
I have a 1" bit jammed in mine real bad. Pliers not working to grip enough to get it out. I'll try again, but no plier or poker seems to grip enough to get this out of the shaft. Suggestions ? Very good overview of the tool and its' features.
I would insert a framing nail upside down with wood glue on its head….. wait to dry and pull it out
Great review. How does the handle hold up to solvents?
I'm in the market for a ratcheting screwdriver and I think I'm narrowed down to the snap on 5 position ratcheting screwdriver. This rolgear looks interesting, but the fact I could use the snap on as a pistol grip for more leverage, and the interchangeable shank on the snap on makes it double as a 1/4" ratcheting nut driver
And the snap on is cheaper vs the amazon.ca price... how stupid is that...
I’ll choose a Wera Kk 27RA over anything, anytime. Best multibit screwdriver in the world. My opinion.
sk hand tools wrench set is that the 86255 or 86265 you used with the rolgear demo.
I got an irwin for 3 dollars. love it
