    You gave me exactly the information I was looking for! I'm researching my own DIY home studio project, and I was trying to find the name of the materials used for the walls. Now I know it's made from MDF Board with carpeting and insulation packed between! Thanks!

    Love this video. I feel your honest and details were very helpful. I have a whisperroom which I love and bought second hand however I need a larger booth now and have been debating on what to go with. Looks not an issue. I have all the treatment and equipment so this was an awesome breakdown. Plus with the cost having gone up 3 times since this :-) Thank you. Looks great and glad it is serving you.

      Also if they've increased in price that much and you're looking pre-built instead of custom build for more space. I'd check out the diamond series vocal booth. It's literallyh diamond shape instead of the rectangle studiobricks offers.

    Great video.
    You can operate as a voice actor from your closet in between noise from neighbors and cars etc
    Many VOs operate at that level - and it works even for large money projects.
    However...
    Where Studiobricks really comes into its own is for those who work in the long-form narration industry.
    Audiobooks, documentaries and online courses etc
    With this type of work, getting 30 seconds of quiet, like for a commercial or a TV promo is not going to cut it.
    We need it to be quiet for hours at a time.
    As you said, a high pass filter and proper placement will add even more to the sound isolation.
    If you are a long-form narrator - you can't go wrong with Studiobricks.
    Guillermo and his team are fantastic!

      very much so. If you are in a permanent long term spot and a booth will not move, you can build you're own booth. There were some great videos on here i was looking at maybe building my own. (Though in 2022 with materials being what they are, maybe its' wash). A booth is essentially just a room in a room, so framing and insulation is fairly simple. Then I took a step back and realized I have none of the tools and none of the skils.StudioBricks is great for people renting or in apartments, some where where if they leave the booth needs to go with them. Like i mentioned in teh video at the time and even now there was a possibilty of moving soon so i needed a portable solution and paid a price for the convenience.

      The VO edition at the time came with a seperate monitor mount which i initially just cut out a square in the foam and installed the monitor on the back wall. But the "copy stand" that also came in the vo edition is also a monitor mount. So i ended up migrating to a vertical monitor mounted on the copy stand arm.

      At the time I purchased this booth (summer 2020), a double walled booth solution from either of those manufactures was comparable. While the assembly with the brick segments called out to me, what really sold me was the look. For the money, most booths are ugly eyesores.

    Hey! In regards to the vicoustic stuff. I assume the light grey stuff is the Flexi POL pieces. Are the black ones the "normal" ones without the "POL" is the name or are they just the same POL ones in black? Since the POL ones are for medium frequencies and the other ones for high frequencies, I'm just curious about the set up since I'm interested in building something like that myself

      Thanks! The LEDs were just the amazon choice LED strip lights. I wouldn't recommend them unless you like the look of seeing each individual "bulb" or diode. Doing it again, I find an outdoor LED strip like the Philliips Hue outdoor light because the rubber coating they use acts as a diffusor making the light appear more even.

      You're absolutely right, most times a closet will suit you well especially if you live in a quiet area. The closets in my house though are all small or next to airducts and plumbing. It is nice for long form recording because the double wall is a lot more forgiving of random noises that could ruin a take.

    So Steven are you happy with your purchase? I am a bit confused by the video. I mean you sure look awesome in that booth! I was getting the vibe you feel like you spent to much? As I work with many new VO talents I am always trying to find a compromise on noise floor/acoustic treatment. Currently I am getting many "Closet" recordings where the noise floor is still way to high! I say rock that booth and make it a goal to earn that coin back doing VO! Use the booth Luke... use the booth! Yes I love Star Wars. Really does look great... wish I had one.

    • @stevendiaz4104
      @stevendiaz4104  3 года назад

      The booth itself was absolutely worth it. Like I mentioned in the video the "portability" of the booth, compared to other options, is a major point for my situation. The point I wanted to make with listing out the prices and everything was to make the point that "yes, a set up "exactly" like mine cost a lot of money." I didn't buy all of this equipment at once. Things like the computer, monitor, ipad, and even the interface were items I had purchased previously for other uses. If you wanted a set up exactly like mine it would be very costly starting from scratch. But you don't need to spend money like I did to get a working setup.

    Hi Steven, great video!
    I'm thinking about getting a booth like that, but for singing practice (not being heard by neighbors is important to me) and of course recording! The booth sounds really great acoustically when people record themselves talking. Is it the same for higher volumes and singing? Might be a stupid question, but I have no idea about acoustics and sound treatment lol.
    I would pay the money for such a booth, but the reviews and demos I can find are by voice actorsand not singers. And on the website itself they say the booth is great for voiceover, narration, podcast and music PRACTICE. They don't mention music recording, which confuses me a little!
    Greetings from Germany!

    • @stevendiaz4104
      @stevendiaz4104  2 года назад +1

      Hello, I'm sorry this response is as late as it is, I hope the answer is still helpful or you found the answer since. Yes, the original design for many of these sorts of booths was to create a sounded resistant space for instrument and singing practice and it was co-opted by voice actors as recording spaces. Unfortunately I don't' know about the in's and out's of music recording but something to keep in mind is both singing and instruements are in general much more sound intense (i.e louder) than a lot of voice work. While I am positive you can record in a booth like this, I can not say how it would sound compared a larger acoustically treated space like you see in recording studios where loud sounds have more room to travel, and have energy fall off, before hitting the acoustic treatment.

  • @collenbdi

    Steven, great video! Super helpful. I’m curious, how much sound leaks from the room itself? Let’s say someone was in another room and I was singing loudly? Or in an apartment with an attached wall.

    • @stevendiaz4104
      @stevendiaz4104  3 года назад +2

      Great question. As I mentioned in the video the StudioBricks is not "sound proof" some sound will still leak out but obviously it's very muffled. The only time I have been heard or I've heard my wife when she records is when she's yelling at the top of her lungs like when recording animation. When I heard her it was only if I was sitting quietly in a room and even then it's very faint as if it was a sound from outside and down the street. Below is a link to a TikTok Video I did where I'm screaming at the top of my lungs from inside the booth. Let me know if the link works, if it doesn't I'll upload it to RUclips for you.

    HI Steven! I'm looking at getting a booth as well. Based on your experience and what you know now, would you have done anything differently such as get a different size? I'm 6'3" so are the booths tall enough for me to stand and record?
    Thank you for your time!
    -Larry

    • @stevendiaz4104
      @stevendiaz4104  3 года назад

      Hi Larry, short answer is yes you will fit standing up. The interior height is about 6'10" inside and probably 6'8" after you add in the foam.
      The long answer is that while you may fit, you are on the very edge of a possible audio effect where you are too close to the ceiling and it becomes very boomy. Luckily since studiobricks are modular you can order another row of bricks to increase the height. I'm only 5'7" so I can't speak much to that. I've linked a video to another gentleman that has a studiobricks and is much taller who ordered another row of bricks for height. The video is time stamped to where they start talking about the extra height.

    Is the vo edition necessary for recording music singers?

    • @stevendiaz4104
      @stevendiaz4104  2 года назад

      no the vo edition is set up with a desk, mic stand, and extra foam for spoken word. It['s meant for long form narroration and working out of the booth. Not really things you need to record music. As far as "recording" audio, you could do it a lot better with just a "sound treated room". A booth like this is only useful if you are in say an apartment or shared household where noise bleed would be a major issue. It's not completely sound proof though so if you live in an espeically noisy area, the sound will still bleed through.
