The fact that Garfield's Peter executed this perfectly this time makes me believe that he's thought about every single way he could've saved Gwen ever since she died. And he finally got to do it right :')
0:48 at least, he got second chance.
Exactly. This time he dived first, caught her, THEN sprayed the web, which I know he practiced in his mind over and over

Today, I learned that Andrew himself pitched this scene and I appreciate him even more for it.

Wow...smart guy...because THIS scene with Garfield PP saving MJ means TH PP couldn't save her. THAT sets up his whole reason for letting Ned & MJ be without 'reminding' them of who PP is to them. It's a scene that simultaneously redeems Garfield PP, but also predicates TH PP's choices/decisions thereafter. TH PP does NOT want to end up like AG PP, being haunted by his own 'Gwen Stacy' failure.
@@victorpradha9946 I can feel your pain when having to type so many Peter Parkers in one sentence lol.
Good job, man lol.
@@somerandolad It's mentioned in one of the interviews with Andrew here on RUclips, I just don't remember which one.
@@somerandolad Don't worry, I completely understand.
This scene is so deep. I felt the intimacy between Andrew's Spidey and us the audience. Only us and him knew what saving Zendaya's MJ meant to him. Only we knew what he had been through and how much he remembers that day. And they way he perfectly executes the saving makes us think that he never, not even for a day, stopped thinking about how he could have saved GS. He forgave himself in the exact moment he landed safely.
I don’t know if I would say forgave… but I’m sure it helped
He wished there was another Spiderman to save Gwen Stacey when he couldn't like how he helped Tom Holland save MJ
I felt his pain, held back my tears but I felt it😢

Garfield saving MJ was absolutely the best scene. The emotion on his face knowing he finally was able to catch the girl, but also knowing he can't get Gwen back...
0:49 that’s my favorite scene.
And you can see he uses his web in the building not in MJ.

@@OliBoboPlays 0:46 that’s his redemption.

I wouldn't say redemption, it was more of a closure to his pain and trauma.

@@CharlieFleed I agree. He’s crying because he isn’t okay. By saving MJ the way he did made him relive that moment of losing Gwen. It’s as clear as day…
This scene achieves what almost every movie tries to achieve but fails and that is to provide a meaningful moment that justifies all of the actions that a character has gone through. To see this culmination of events all come together is just amazing. I think this is the best scene in an already amazing movie
This scene and Toby’s “My back.. my back”
He explains how her death made him bitter, and he didn't want that to befall Tom's Spider-Man. And in that moment he saved Tom, MJ, and himself.
The ptsd on his face was to real. He played that so well this was probably my favorite scene in the movie. It really hit me hard
notice that this time he makes sure he lands first
Not gonna lie, Id like to see the scene where he does that sakes head no and says "yeah...." or shakes head yes and says "....no...." thing. Either way......Id just like to see how it feels played out that way.....
He had good training in Hacksaw Ridge :p
I still tear up when I see it
One of my favorite moments in all of the mcu.
I always thought Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man was very underrated and over hated. Glad he’s getting the love he deserved now from the fandom
He was never hated from me. He was my favourite Spider-Man out of all 3 and he still is really. I love his storyline as well in his films as well. I was hoping he was going to get a 3rd movie just to see how far Andrew is gonna deal with Gwen death and that and this film told me that and it was kind of sad really of what happened to him.
Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man was hated?!
@@beauferret5414 yeah, after 2 Amazing Spider-Man movies. Mine is not really bad. Andrew's my favorite character.
he's my favourite too, he's closest to the comic book spiderman
I always thought Andrew Garfield was a terrific Spider-Man, and to me he looked more like Peter Parker in the comic books compared to both Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland. Anyways, all three actors have been great as Spidey for their respective eras, but its a shame that Garfield never got to play the role in more films. This scene of him saving MJ redeems him from being unable to save Gwen in Amazing Spider-Man 2. The lower box office of Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the mixed criticism of the story (too many characters syndrome and not enough story development, etc) seemed to make Sony Pictures execs decide to change course for the Spider-Man films franchise and reboot again plus making that new production deal with Marvel Studios to have Spidey now be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No Way Home did a great job presenting the multiverse, and bringing back several actors from previous the Spider-Man films will be a once in a lifetime moment.
Can we all admire the sound editing in this scene? The silence that's broken by Goblin's cackle, segwaying into the chilling ringing. Amazing
Goblin was great in that scene too. It's small, but he's determined to break Peter's spirit.
@@jemmellpyron2527 I 200 % agree. Goblin is literally learning from his mistakes too. On the crane construction site where Tobey (Peter) uses his web to save MJ while falling, and succeeds. Goblin was determined to make sure he couldn't save MJ. Completely ruthless; Goblin was! I hate that he was cured in this movie bc there is literally no more darker half of Norman Osbourne 😢

Fr because he’s having them flashlights for what happen to Gwen his girlfriend.
This scene is so faithful to Andrew Garfield. This shows that he spent so much time thinking "if I did this" and "what if I" that when the time came he knew exactly what to do
I think some of the pain also came from “What if I did this” and he found out he would’ve saved Gwen if he did now and has to live with that.
@@doomdog2111 yeah but I Andrew is probably also glad that this time he was able to save someone.

@@Emerald29 She knows why because he said earlier, "I lost...I lost Gwen, she was my M.J. I couldn't save her."

That was improvised? Well, fancy that.
Andrew Garfield’s Peter’s look of sadness is so bittersweet. He most definitely replayed Gwen’s fall and death millions of times in his head, analyzing it from every possible angle to see what, if anything, he did wrong and could have done differently to save her.
When MJ fell, he felt he was reliving that nightmare and vowed to redeem himself, if only through his own eyes, and of course save MJ’s life. It’s as if, in the moment of saving MJ, he could finally forgive himself, let go and move on. A truly powerful moment for Andrew to act out, and he did so beautifully.

I’ll always be a tobey fan but I really feel like Andrew deserved this film more than anyone else he always was a good Spider-Man and this film proves it
I always loved Andrew’s Spider-Man. I felt bad for him when his sequels were cancelled. I hope his performance in this made haters reconsider their thoughts about his portrayal. I love his immediate response and really using his power to keep the same exact thing from happening again. He was able to forgive himself, and prevent another Peter from suffering the same tragedy.
This scene is just beautiful, Andrew’s pride and happiness in saving MJ but also his sadness and guilt over failing Gwen
I'm not sure it's pride. More like relief, grief brought to the surface, and catharsis.
@@ReturnofBenjamin absolutely!
He didn’t want Tom’s Spider-man to lose what Gwen was to him.
He didn't fail Gwen, he did his best to save her, that's all anyone could do
@@aiyanyaqoob2203 But the thing is Andrew’s Spider-Man feels he failed her and him saving MJ is like redemption for him
He would have thought about every way he could have saved gwen, and I love how this time he doesn't rely on his webs/powers, he grabs her and holds her, and then uses his webs to get them to safety. Webs failed him once, he wasn't going to let it happen again
After Gwen died, in he comics Peter got real dark for awhile, nearly killing a few of his rogue's gallery. He was constantly replaying her death in his head. He became a pro at saving falling people due to that obsession. What got him out of that dark place was when he was set up on a date with MJ. It was a blind date and when he opened the door she said her iconic line and Pete got his nickname. "Face it tiger, you hit the jackpot." She's been calling him that for over 40 years now lol.
he uses his web to help him propel himself downward toward MJ, which is how he makes it to her so quickly. you can see him doing it at 0:44, where he's holding web in his hand to help him right before he jumps.
he does rely on it, using it to slingshot himself instead of using it to grab her.
@@Shadow8332 thats what I mean. Hes obviously using his webs, but he isn't only relying on them, for everything. He improved himself because he knew he needed to be more than just his webs.
U do know he would have never reached gwen without his web shooters right?
I mean that's why he wasn't on time, not because of the shooters but because he wasnt fast enough in general.
1:01 Andrews acting here was so powerful. The way he slowly starts tearing up shows how good he was at portraying this character.
Look closely before she fell. Ned tried saving her too. He was always a good friend to Peter and MJ.
What I love is that theybm never shoved Ned to the background in this movie. They easily could have with MJ and Peter's relationship forming and the 3 spider-man. But they gave him equal participation in this movie despite being just a best friend. Like they easily could have cut out his scenes if they wanted to reduce run time but they didn't! And he had a major impact on the movie, absolutely love it.
Like they could have found a different way for the spider-men being introduced (coming in randomly in a fight to save tom) instead of ned magic. And if they did that, he really wouldn't need to be in the movie

By doing this action like a true brother would, he helped Tom by saving MJ to not follow his path. A real hero.

The fact that he landed just so perfectly makes me think that he replayed the death of Gwen in his head over a hundred times, theorising the speed and physics, how he failed and might've been able to save her.
I love how smooth he saved her. He was probably thinking about how he could’ve been faster or more effective to saving Gwen, all those years
Used a different technique too. Instead of catching her with his web he nose dived straight to her to catch her with his arms. He was definitely thinking about what he could’ve done differently, and got the chance to redeem himself
@@jacobwilliams9757 he nose dived before the only issue was that the fall was much longer and by the time Peter was gaining speed Gwen most likely would of already hit terminal velocity at that point meaning he would of never caught up with her. Tobey’s Spider-Man had debris to use midair to slingshot himself at Gwen, but Andrew’s Spider-Man’s only best bet in that inevitable death was to webshoot at her and hope for the best. It’s sad because if that was what’s going through his head he still hasn’t come to terms with reality. It was unavoidable.
@@Josh-ym9vx I don’t disagree that Gwen’s death was probably inevitable. However I think him using a different technique shows he probably had thought about what he coulda done differently a hundred times

He wasn't just a great spiderman. I'd say he was an amazing spiderman.
in TASM2, when gwen was falling, spiderman used his web to catch the falling gwen. Here, he jumped first and then caught her. It was only after he caught her did he use his web. It shows us how much he would have thought over the years about what he could have done differently in case of gwen to save her.
Yeah!
While this might be true, I don't think he can really catch Gwen that time. Their distance is too big and there's no way he could've reached her on time. It's just sad Gwen have to go like that.
Saving that Gwen was a kind of therapy for him. Some healing was there and I was happy for his character at that moment. 🤧
We all felt closure when Andrew's Spider-Man saved MJ. Amazing moment.
What makes this scene so great is how brief it is. The film doesn’t go out of its way to make it a big major moment that stops the action, nor does it bash us over the head with the reason why this is such a meaningful moment. It’s all told in Andrew’s face within a span of five seconds, and then we’re back to Tom’s Peter, the film’s main character, and the story continues. And it’s a brilliant filmmaking choice how all the sound stops as Andrew jumps down toward her and catches her; the silence is only broken by the sound of his web landing on the platform and ensuring her safety. It’s as if time stopped for him, and could not resume until he made sure that no other lover of Spider-Man - in any universe - will ever suffer Gwen’s fate.
Andrew is such a good actor, everytime he does these crying scenes, I can feel his emotion and that's true art, true acting, make the audience feel what you are acting

This scene not only gives a quality scenewriting, but also SO RELEASING for both Peter and the audience who grew up with The Amazing Spider Man. As a person who watched the ASM films in middle school, Gwen's death scene has always been one of my weaknesses. It was so sad and there was no way for us to know Peter recovered and healed in person after all the regrets and agony he had. This scene is giving so much because of it. I can't express how thankful I am both to Andrew and the whole crew for executing this scene so well. It's almost like a character circle coming to end .

This scene slammed me in the gut when I saw it. The exchange between MJ and Peter when they were on the ground was so unexpected. I went from 'Yeah!' to 'Oh god' in a split second, realizing that Peter was 'reliving' his last painful moment with Gwen along with celebrating saving MJ.
I am glad they made that call back to Garfield's movie...and although they referred to Peter losing Gwen earlier in the film, I am still so surprised my brain instantly knew the significance. Such a well made moment.
Underrated detail I didn’t notice, Ned reached for MJ and almost falls himself. Everyone needs a best friend like Ned.
I teared up so much with this scene. The look on Andrew's face and the pure emotion. I felt his pain and I felt his redemption. This movie was so great.
Just the expression on Andrew’s face at that very moment, going back to the moment he can never forgive himself from Gwen’s death. By saving MJ, you can just see how forgivable he is to himself by saving her. Yet painful it is, how he couldn’t do it to Gwen.
Just excellent acting, Andrew!
It's a Bittersweet moment Peter saved m.j. I could see the pain in his eyes knowing that he was never able to do that for Gwen it's so sad how much he must miss her
I love how MJ even asked him if he was ok but she knew the emotions running through his head and she knew at the moment he didn’t see her as MJ he saw her as Gwen and then saw the realization that he isn’t gonna be able to get Gwen back

When she started falling and I heard the high pitched ringing my heart literally stopped beating. I knew exactly what was about to happen and they couldn’t have done it any better.
When we lost G in TAS2, I bawled my eyes out, and when they did this scene, i bawled even more. I love Andrew’s Spider-Man
The emotions in his face after the trauma of Gwen’s death are so real. Peter’s relieved that he saved MJ. Andrew Garfield’s acting is amazing!
I loved seeing the moment Doc Ock and Dr. Strange working together even if it was only for half a second.
0:13-0:17 me too.
What a incredible scene, it was the perfect way for Andrew’s Spider-Man to redeem himself after he failed to save Gwen, the look on his face after saving MJ, had me breaking down in tears 😭 man Spider-Man No Way Home was incredible 👏👏👏 🕷🕸
Imagine being back in 2007 and someone tells you that there's going to be another Spider-Man film in 14 years where Alfred Molina's Doc Ock battles Willem Dafoe's Goblin, while a SECOND Spidey saves a SECOND MJ (which is the girlfriend of a THIRD Spidey) to atone for the death of a SECOND Gwen.
people say that andrew needed to redeem himself, they're wrong, he was always great
Yeah but storywise he needed the redemption after failing to save Gwen
It was for himself, we don't care what others think
No...he was amazing
That face that Tobey makes at the beginning of this video tells Me that he felt traumatized to seeing the Green Goblin again which I think is really cool also I'm really glad that Andrew got to redeem himself by saving MJ and I hope that he finally found some peace and happiness within himself when he returned to his universe
0:00 me too.
It’s so subtle but at the very beginning you can hear Tobey’s Original Spidey Sense sound effect playing when he turns his head
The moment he saves MJ was the moment he gained clarity and closure he finally forgave himself entirely I know Gwen is looking down saying
“way to go spidey, you did it” 👩🏼 ❤
No💀
She is in hell
Not only did Andrew save MJ, but he saved himself and Tom.
How did he save himself and Tom?
@B L The guilt of not saving Gwen was killing him so he redeemed himself and he could probably live with himself more easily. He saved Tom because if he lost May and MJ on the same night, he'd have gotten off way worse in life
@@bl8892 because he had the opportunity to save someone important to spiderman, and also, because it prevented that spiderman from feeling the same pain and guilt forever
@@bl8892He redeemed himself
Tom would've turned into a monster if MJ died here
He wouldn't have held back on Goblin and become a monster because of it
Bitter
Alone
Angry
I almost wanted to fall into my knees in overwhelming emotion because how much this scene meant. Andrew's facial and body language in this entire moment was.....damn man🥺🥺🥺🥺
The tears in his eyes as he looks at MJ are jus ugh!🥺💔 this is exactly what he wished he could’ve done for Gwen the heartbreaking look on his face says it all. Although he couldn’t save his girl at least he was able to save another Spider-Man’s girl and got the redemption he very much needed!
I’m crying watching this again. I loved this moment and broke into tears in the theater when it happened even though I expected it.
I just realized that Andrew Spider-Man might have prevented a Cannon Event from happening.
i cry everytime i see this scene, andrew portrayed his emotions so good in this movie, he stole most of the scenes he was in!! GIVE US AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3!!!
Andrews face after he catches her hits the heart always…
The closure he finally needed. I’m sure he thought of a hundred ways he could’ve saved Gwen

I remember the screams of pure horror and then immediate excitement in my theater. Such an amazing experience.💖
Now, we’re going to have the rereleased movie with extended version of Spider-Man no way home this Friday.
this scene made me cry tbh andrew's facial expression was just so perfect and sad and it reminds him of that moment when he couldn't save gwen :(
