I love how animatronics are becoming a lot more friendly looking than terrifying. I like all the new animatronics in the new Disney ride. They hardly look terrifying at all. (This includes yours, he’s cute!)
I think a lot of it is just improvements in technology over the years. The old ones look creepy because of their unnatural movements and it triggers that uncanny valley effect in our brains. Walt kinda has that vibe but he's cute, #TeamWalt
My dad once told me stories of the old Woody because he used to spend a lot of time at the mall. He told me that one time he and a few friends tried to see the guy who was operating the tree from inside, he said that there was an old dude smoking a cigar inside. That makes him even more creepy lol

Every year I send a video of him to my friends who don't live in Dartmouth, and let them know that Woody has been woken up and is ready to devour naughty children. So glad you included him, he's my absolute favourite. We also had a Douglas Fir Singing Tree. Maybe that's why I like Woody so much.
0:35 My mall in Nevada use to have bears like that every Christmas and Easter. I miss when my mall added these bears. They made the mall's visit special.

I live right by the mall where Woody is and visit him every year. I wouldn't call him an "animatronic" though. He's puppeteered in the back by a voice actor using cameras and mics to see and hear who is in front of him. He has 7 different people voicing him this year, my friend is one of them.
I had one of those singing Christmas trees as a kid. His name was Douglas Fir, and I remember he had a couple of songs built into that he’d sing normally, but he also came with a cassette tape that could be put in the the tape player in the bottom of his trunk that would have him tell a story and sing Christmas songs. One time when I was three, to keep me busy while he was working, my dad put a Disney song cassette in the tree, and I just sat there in front of it, watching it sing my favorite Disney songs.
In Portsmouth Virginia, we have Winter Wonderland, which displays the Coleman Nursery animatronic collection. You may want to look into that and read up on the history of it.
I have a faint memory from when i was a kid going to first night in boston and they have a ton of robots/computers screens playing music. The condoctor freaked me out 😊
Woody! He always scared me from when I was little to now as a 24 year old woman. Lol. He left for so long and then came back a couple years ago. Still just as scary! Christmas shopping at Mic Mac Mall is almost a horror movie 😂

Someone that used to work in the lunchroom at my school had a Gemmy singing Christmas tree that they would put up every year during Christmas right by the area where people walked in to get their lunch. So whenever someone would walk by it, or make any kind of noise by it, it would start moving around and singing

Great Christmas animatronics! Since you had covered the Gemmy Singing Tree, had you ever thought about covering the Hallmark Dancing Snowmen series? I'm not sure if you qualify them as battery powered animatronics or plush robots? Each year Hallmark would release a new snowman, each year they have would different motions, lights and a christmas song. My family has been collecting those since they had first came out in 2003.
