Slight correction, skateboarding was added to the Olympics in 2020 at Tokyo. I watched it then and it was so cool, and mind blowing that all the athletes are like, in their teens or younger. This year one of the Chinese park skate athletes is 11! And Sky brown bronze medallist for GB was 13 in Tokyo! Japan scored gold and silver in the women’s street skate this year
And one of my favourite moments in the Olympics is after 64 years GB won not 1 but two medals at women’s diving 3m springboard synchro and 10m synchro, and that pistol shooter from Turkiye in the mixed pistol doubles who, just showed up without any gear, no eye shield no glass nothing and they managed to get silver
It only became a core sport for LA, where a bunch of sports got provisional removals (Modern Penthalon and Wrestling), or just got put into their last games unless something drastic happens (Boxing) That’s why they have 5 new invited sports in LA instead of the same but with Breaking instead of Karate
I used to only pay attention to gymnastics for Olympics since it’s a sport I did and actually know the rules to, but the memeification of the Olympics honestly got me caring about so many athletes from so many sports of so many countries.
the cardboard beds thing is misleading, albeit funny. It was the same in Tokyo, they had the same beds. The reason doesn’t actually have anything to do with preventing banging (in fact the olympic village provides condoms for free to the olympians), it’s entirely because of the cost of buying/dealing with proper beds
Glad someone said this. But not just about the monetary cost it’s the environmental cost. The beds are made of cardboard and recycled material in an effort to stay sustainable and not have a lot of waste after
@@casperrabbit7254 I mean since it’s the Olympics, think of any beds they use as disposable, because they’ll be tossed after the games are over. So in that regard, cardboard, being recyclable, is sustainable
Shout out to Flavor Flav sponsoring the USA Women's Olympic water polo team! My fave olympic story this year. It's terrible that he caught wind of it because so many of them had to work multiple jobs to make the olympics feasible, but I'm glad he was able to step up and help.
Stephen was also the only American male gymnast to qualify for an event final, for which he won bronze. This also isn’t the first time the US has had a specialist on the team, McKayla Maroney only competed vault in the 2012 team final, resulting in her iconic perfect stick on her vault. I also love seeing an athlete in glasses and am super happy about all the attention he and men’s gymnastics in general are getting this year.
The Olympics is the only time I care about sports. When I tell you I cried when Simone finished her floor routine for the team finals. I even get hyped for other countries. I was so happy for Rebecca Andrade to win silver and everytime someone wins a first medal for a country in that sport I get so emotional.
As a random Brazilian reading this, thanks for being happy for Rebeca! We were happy for Simone as well! Plus they seem to be friends, which makes it that much more wholesome ❤🇧🇷🇺🇲
Just want to say in Rio we broke the records of condoms distributed at the Olympic village. And many, but like many idiots thought they could flush them out, which caused massive clogging at the village lol

The thing about Stephen is that people were really outraged that he got picked over someone who could compete in every event. I’m glad he proved the haters wrong. HOWEVER it does seem a little unfair that he performs for the least amount of time and is getting so much more attention than the other boys.
People wouldn’t be talking about the other boys if he wasn’t there. Because through an algorithm that the USA gymnastics team used, he was their best bet to get the first medal in 16 years. I would have absolutely loved to see Khoi Young there. But Khoi wouldn’t have been able to get Steven’s high score. And his teammates are extremely excited about him being there and know his worth.
This has to be one of the most fun Olympics for this reason. Seeing the athletes celebrate, show off the village, and just have fun in the city was enjoyable to see. I’ve always loved the Olympics but this made me enjoy it even more
the fact that I’ve seen like almost all the TikTok’s you showed just tells me how much of the Olympics I’ve been consuming through TikTok. One thing I love is the fact that we’re seeing a whole different side of these athletes on TikTok vs them competing. We see that they’re not stone cold athletic machines, they are human. They’re funny, joke around a lot, do reckless dumb things like breaking cardboard beds, get starstruck for other athletes, and so much more. I think one side of Olympic TikTok you haven’t mentioned is the pin trading. Some of these athletes are getting really in to it trying to collect as many as possible. It’s a whole Olympic event in itself.
My favorite moments from Paris 2024: • Natalia Escalera competing on the asymmetric bars being injured (Mexico is not a powerhouse in artistic gymnastics like the United States) and the Mexican team had to drop out of the competition. • Prisca Awiti's first ever medal for Judo in Mexico, she won silver. • Osmar Olvera winning the silver medal in the 3 meter springboard along with Juan Celaya, he had to open an OnlyFans account to afford the expenses for international competitions due to problems with the Conade which is the National Commission for Physical and Sports Culture in Mexico. • Alan Cleland becoming the first ever Mexican surfer to compete at the Olympics. • Uziel Muñoz finishing among the best 8 in shot put. • Simone Bile's comeback. • Julien Alfred's first ever gold medal for Saint Lucia.
