When fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed ‘low life scum’ Naoise & Liam Og, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other.
Rapping in their native Irish language, KNEECAP fast become the unlikely figureheads of a Civil Rights movement to save their mother tongue.
But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries & politicians trying to silence their defiant sound - whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies.
In this fiercely original sex, drugs and hip-hop biopic KNEECAP play themselves, laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures.

Yeah it is getting a wide release by Sony Pictures Classics. I believe it will be the first wide release Irish language film.
Last I heard, it'll be in the US in September

Versatile was not the first irish hip hop group to do it in irish.
@@ODONrossa Versatile were the first Irish group to make it big full stop. Kneecap were in their shadow in the beginning, and even supported them during a gig in 2018. Then when all that nonsense controversy happened, in which Mo Chara and Móglaí Bap burned Versatile, there was a conceited effort to push Versatile aside and strip them of their marketing resources, and it worked. To replace them, Irish media pushed Denise Chaila first, then that failed because she wasn’t likable whatsoever. Then Sello was pushed, only it was discovered he was all about Free Top G. Kneecap was next and they managed to stick. But half their popularity wasn’t as organic and it’s fairly obvious that Versatile would have been further ahead now had certain state figures not got involved.
