Question is if one would consider 18W to offer good enough battery life. On the Steam Deck I run the game at 9W TDP. And unfortunately ROG Ally performance plummets when you go below 15W.
Around 90 mins of battery
@@SantiagoSantiago Yeah, for me 2.5-3h feels like the absolute minimum, otherwise you are chewing through those battery charge cycles like it's nothing. :) But I understand that some people won't mind that or being tethered. :)
Ally X will have 80W battery and will literally butcher the Deck.
How You can run it on 9W when I play it in 15W it is totally unplayable with drops to 15-20fps?

@@lechistanskiswit320 I think "butcher" is a massive exaggeration due to the price difference and since the devices have very similar hardware architecture. The ROG Ally doesn't have a massive technical advantage over the Steam Deck. They have similar GPU architecture, but the ROG Ally have more CPU cores. Why I would personally not choose the Ally boils down to a couple of things:
- Asus in itself, their terrible customer service/support and their track record of not dealing with customers in an ethical way.
- Windows and all it's flaws as an OS for handheld machines.
- Lackluster performance/watt. What Asus is trying to fix with a larger battery is ultimately a design issue where they used off-the-shelf laptop APUs that aren't designed for handheld gaming devices.
- Value. Ultimately if I want power and fidelity it's just much cheaper to get a desktop PC (you can buy a used HP elitedesk with a core i7 for 100$ add a new GPU while also buying a Steam Deck for the same price as a ROG Ally). Personally I see handheld gaming PCs as cheap companion- or entry-level devices. ROG Ally isn't that-
The good thing about the ROG Ally is that it is sold in more places than the Steam Deck, this is the place where valve can improve a lot. It would be great if they opened up sales in more regions, while also adding the device into retail....

Why wouldn't it be possible if it runs decent on the deck
Not a matter if it runs or not, but how well it did in the bigger town, that brought all my CPUs to their knees back then, the Deck in the same area on the horse drops to the low 20s
