I had the exact same bike, I just loved it, I felt like the king of the road on the bike, great and awesome memories came to mind as you started the bike, it was the first super-bike, and that is forever!

My friend's big brother bought a Z1 when they first came out. My buddy asked if I wanted to take a ride with him to a town about 25 miles away. I said "sure!" It was the most breathtaking ride I've ever been on. Thank God I was young and dumb so I enjoyed it without the burden of fear!!! What an awesome bike!!

I also bought mine 3 years ago from the original owner in Mass. I new the owner and tried to buy it from him but he was like me he was going to take it to the grave with him well sure enough he died of a heart attack and I bought the Z1 with 9k and his Zx12r with 3900 miles, In 1974 I had put a deposit on one and then my car crapp ed out so I never bought one and had many other bikes but always wanted a Z1 42 years later I finally had my Z1 all original with the original title .Yours is a little nicer Johnny i have a little pitting in the chrome but it still looks pretty nice .

I’m so glad to see this bike exists. I bought the same color Z1 new in 1974. That year, you could either get the burgundy color or a blue color. I don’t ride anymore, but I have good memories of the Z1. Thanks!

From "both" sides! That's what I hate about headers. One side looks nice, the other looks vacant.

I am so impressed with your work and attention to detail. I think you have one of the most rewarding jobs in the world. I like 100%correct bikes but if I had the means to do an unrestored rebuild on a barn find Z1. I'd like to keep everything stock except the exhaust and air filters. I'd prefer a four into one exhaust and exposed K&N air filters. If the petrol tank, side covers and tail fin were in good condition, I'd let them be preserved for other Kawasaki Z1 restorations. I'd like to repair a beaten up old tank and tatty side covers and tail fin, and have them painted in Olive Green with Original Kawasaki Pinstripes done in Rust Orange. Basically I'd like the paint job to be my own stamp on the bike, hence not wanting to spoil an original petrol tank in good condition. I'd still keep everything but the things I mentioned as original as possible. Your enthusiasm & rebuilds Johnny are superb and so interesting to watch.
If I had the means, I'm totally sold on the 70's Z1 900, even though I've always preferred Suzuki's 1981 GSX1100E or a GS750E. The overall quality and styling of the Z1 is second to none. Thanks for making these great videos Johnny.

I had a '76 KZ900, and it was a beast! Just twist the wick and hang on......tight! I had it painted a deep metallic blue, and put a 16" Harley rear wheel/tire, and lowering blocks on the rear shocks, and man it looked bitchin! Bought it brand new for $2609.00 OTD!
