Why are these lyrics so much better than Keeper and We'll Be Okay? I still very much enjoy those songs, but these lyrics are noticeably stronger.

Sounds like the aftermath of a long or serious relationship. Both were probably miserable with each other. Ugly break up but it seems the singer is having a hard time forgetting about her. He is self aware of the fact that they can never work but still holds on to their good times
