    Pro tip, forward 5 minutes into video to get something ("Get to the office stat") Then learn what you came here for

    Thank you, thank you, thank you. I finally found a video that identified why I couldn’t be heard on the gateway. Time 11:07 got me. I got this pi-star hotspot set up two weeks ago easily with an Ft-70d on YSF. I could not figure out or find a video to get an ID-51 talking on dstar with the pi-star. I got the pi-star listening to ref001 c pretty fast and then stuck from there.

      The DR mode not only gets you over the internet, but it gives you the radio menu commands to quickly navigate around the DStar networks. You can quickly link to Reflectors or even individual DStar repeaters with your hotspot with radio commands! In fact, if you look at some if the DStar techniques in my other videos, you can do almost anything from the radio and rarely need the hotspot dashboard to get around. I am glad I could help! If you get stuck, feel free to reach out.

    Your explanation is pretty good and didn't get into more of the confusing nuance. If you go back to the "pre-DR" days, you can certainly use a DStar repeater in DV mode. You programmed them right in the regular memory channel table, generally interspersed with the occasional "UR" command (link, unlink, etc) so you had less scrolling when operating DStar. You could still operate like that today....if you really like to punish yourself. DR mode contains a whole new set of repeater memories (containing position data), a smaller memory table for UR commands, and another for your DV data message that shows up when you transmit. Not only does it put the radio into DV mode (the codec) but now you access all new memory tables. I got bad "expert" advice on my ID 880H on this and was told to "forget DR mode". But I'm a real persistent guy and know Icom is the Microsoft of Japan---neat features are included that are terribly documented. Once I figured out about all the new memory tables and how to get to them on the radio, operating the radio became pretty simple on DStar. With the ID 51 and onward it's even simpler. Mysteries like "group CQ" on the 880H are resolved by simple menu items like "use reflector".

    Nice video. How do I enter an XLX reflector on the ID 51?

    When in Reflector mode with TO selected, just turn VFO to select Reflector commands. Not necessary to keep diving into Reflector menu to change commands. Icom only, not Kenwood.

      Thank you. I demonstrate the rotate VFO knob option in other videos. That also holds true on all the other current Icom DStar radios.

      @@ag1382 I also like how it works with the commands I store in the "Your Call Sign" folder.

    why does the id52 no longer have a CS button?

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  Год назад

      Good question! To see the CS information you have 2 options. Option 1: hit menu, then set, then enter, call sign, then enter. Option 2: hit menu, then set, then enter, then function, then enter, lo/call key actions, then enter, then ID-51 compatible, and then enter. That changes the LO button to a CS button. But then you lose the ability to change transmit power leve. I leave mine on standard and access CS with the menu in option 1 described above.

    Will it work for my 31aplus

    • @k9wlwradio309
      @k9wlwradio309  4 года назад +2

      Absolutely! Although the ID 31, does not have VHF, the menus in both the 51 and 31 are almost Identical!
