{On the Phone} Chuck! Chuck, it's Marvin. Your cousin, Marvin Berry. You know that new sound you're looking for? Well, listen to this! [holds the receiver out]
Chuck Berry didn't need some white kid from the future who heard a record of Chuck and comped (poorly) his signature lick. Every one of us owe Chuck for giving us not just these riffs but Rock and Roll. There's something so insulting about that scene as if Chuck stole his genius, which he vaguely borrowed from folks who were not white.
Dude you are seriously the best guitar teacher on this website. Keep it up man I learn almost everything from you. And I hope you do better from your ear thing. Recover fast man God bless
Whenever I want to learn a song or a riff, I come to this channel. Really accurate sounding and there's no tabs or any of that which isn't a bad thing, but the way it's explained helps me learn 10x quicker. Awesome stuff and right to the point.
Nice tutorial. I'm teaching my son these days - he's getting pretty good. This video will teach him some history as well as some classic licks. Thanks Carl
@@Mattman_447 Thanks for asking. Yes, he's still playing in between school commitments. Lately he's developed an interest in Spanish and Latin music so his musical horizons are widening I'm pleased to say.
Just wanted to say thanks! Ive ended up on your videos a couple of times to work out the more tricky riffs i cant work out by ear. Good lessons, very handy for a cover band guitarist. You have saved me hours of work. Thanks!
I got my first guitar X mas 1966 at age 8! Monkey mania time! I took weekly guitar lessons for 7 years. And these instructional videos remind me of those lessons. By the numbers! Painful at times but you do learn properly how to play the correct way! Much appreciated!
Hi Carl and the guitar 365 crew. Really like your lessons they helped me improve my guitar playing by a lot. I really hope you will hold your word and give us fans the continuation of this song, it would mean a lot. Thanks and keep doing what you do. I appreciate it.
Hi Kevin, the rest of the parts to this song are here in my Chuck Berry playlist ruclips.net/p/PLOBqO_KghqI4Y9Uiva50LwuH-AT2q5iZg Thanks for watching my vids!
Hello Carl only a quick one. when you mention using the 10th fret on the G from the intro riff you don't play it yourself at the start or at the end! Phil :)
excellent lesson Carl... Thanks for all the lessons... you've been an animal for the past few weeks really putting them out there, again Thanks for taking time to create all the fantastic lessons
I finally understand why it's in B flat and not A (much easier for riffs) : it's the slide down to open G (2:30). If you play in A, you have to play F# and you don't have time to get up to D for the (2:47) push ups. In B flat you have time to get to E flat.
@@dorkle9085 na, elvis was a great singer, but he wasn't even close to chuck berry. he was just handsome and white so he got all the glory, but chuck berry perfected the art of rock n roll! and basically invented rock n roll guitar for the future!
@@oxrjbizzle1984y But he did influence alot of black artists just like Chuck Berry did, they all equally contributed to the foundations of rock and roll.
Cara! Você é muito bom! Não sou músico mas estou aprendendo a tocar várias músicas seguindo suas aulas no RUclips, principalmente algumas do Pink Floyd! Parabéns!!!
Awesome lesson bro. Just wanna point out tho for y’all in the comments the last note of the into isn’t a 8 on the D you repeat the 7 on the G that you just hammered on to :)
Beginners stay away! Looks easy and usually recommended over the web as a beginner riff to learn but its deceptively difficult! I've been playing for around a year and i can play most popular riffs like stairway to heaven, back in black, seek and destroy, enter sandman - but this riff is so hard to master! I guess the difficulty is because of its fast tempo and its precise pull offs and hammer ons.
I dont mean to be pedantic but is this really a riff in the true sense of the word (an ostinato)? Or just an introduction that has become a well known guitar lick?
I guess, it's the latter. But you could also say it's both, because much of this intro solo sounds like a riff and not all riffs repeat more, than once. 🤷♂️

Is it just me or does Chuck Berry use the same notes that go with the 1 chord over all 3 chords when doing his solo leads ? I was sure I was getting a handle on theory until now lol

Bro its a fucking movie
Richard Foulkes ....... but marty learnt it by listening to chuck so technically chuck learnt it from himself.... *mind blown*
skruffy79 OH. MY. GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Richard Foulkes you are aware that Chuck didn’t come up with that lick right?.... He actually borrowed it himself from a song from 1948

Paying attention were we? Noticed that also, plays 9th. Great lesson. Thank you
Should have corrected my own mistype sooner! At 4:31, the stated 10 on the G string looks to be played at the 8TH fret.
I heard a tint on the G string (@8) then hammer from 6 -7 on the G. 🎸🤘🏻
Carl is my "Go To" guy! Nice job of teaching. Lot the way you pay attention to detail.
Good lesson. I like that you just get right to how it is played. So many people on YT talk for 5 minutes about nothing before they get to the song.
The 195 people that disliked aren't ready for it,but their kids are gonna love it...
