- Considered to be the greatest season in ECU history. The upstart 91 Pirates shock the college football world, finish #9 in the country, and defeat their bitter in-state rival NC State in the 1992 Peach Bowl. I do not own this video. It is meant for historical record.
The 1991 ECU Pirate Football team was special. The Pirates finished 11-1!
I enjoyed seeing the East Carolina vs. Southern Miss battles. Shame it ended.
Dion Johnson had that 4.4 speed. #27
I was in Belk Dorm. It's torn down now. We were there watching the game. How I miss the good ole days. Wish I could go back. Go Piratesssssssssssss!
Well said. Go Pirates!!!
That game was not as much about beating NC State as it was a statement about how special Greenville was, and still is. Greenville!! Special place.
And that ECU students, alumni, and fans are ,the very best, period.
9:39 #32 is my dad. Game ending interception in ECUs first ever win over South Carolina
I was there! Met my NCSU family after the game and my sister said “Don’t say a word “! I said “I don’t have to! My team said it all for me.”
RIP Jeff Charles. What a great voice he was
Rip jeff indeed
Quarterback Jeff Blake made the 1991 season possible!
What an awesome season it was. I still believe!! Go Pirates!
Right on
How about the 83 ECU team? Finished 8-3 with the three losses to Florida State 47-46, Florida 24-17 and national champs Miami 12-7.
should have gone to a bowl game
First Down.... Pirates!
Was watching at some ungodly time in West Lake Village, CA. Screaming and hollering!!!!
2013 ECU grad here, but remember this season well. What a great decade for Pirate football. First Pirate game I attended was a 42-21 win over Cincinnati at a chilly D-F in 1992. It would have been something if they could have been my home state Illini!
Your full of shit. 2013 grad? So you had to be born in 92. Fuck off.
@@charismatic9904 cause everyone goes to college right away and graduates in 4 years right? Also he would have been born in 90 by your math.
I was at my apartment on E 3rd St in Greenville: TV volume down-Pirate Radio network volume up. Just like every other game that season. Honestly, I can tell you there was never any doubt that ECU would make their patented comeback. Jeff Charles and Crump made one of the most classic broadcasts in the history of college sports.
Interesting that #5 made the big play for VT in 1990 and #5 made the big play for ECU in 1991.
I was there and it was wonderful. Flew our Pirate flags allthe way home. Still believing.
I've never heard that radio call of the final play before. You get the distinct impression that the announcer didn't respect the decision to play for a tie.
The ECU voice of the Pirates, Jeff Charles, questioned it, but the color analyst, C. Crump particularly did not like that decision.
AWESOMESAUCE! I was there to witness this!!
Great!, I was back in G-Ville keeping the faith. Met the team back that night. It was special
I lived in Greenville, NC at this time...It was SOOOOO hype!!! Damn I had some seriously good times dating ECU girls, lol. Shout out to Tyler Dorm, up on the 'Hill'
My buddy lived at Jones Hall in 91.. I remember all the girls suntanning on that hill ..... LOL
@@michaelpope2885 Yep...Man you're bringing back some good memories...lol I was hanging there when Jeff Blake and Robert Jones were on the football team, man it was hype!!!!
I remember watching that Illinois game and the penalty after the on sides kick was some horseshit! They were excited they just recovered the kick and it took all the wind right outta their sales! But I still remember being 12 watching with my best friend and us both being pissed.
Exactly. We listened to the radio broadcast @ 805 E 3rd St, Greenville. The rest was history!
We can blame Miami for that penalty! Lol
It was 1992, right?
