Lisa McManus does a GREAT job on air. I always learn something and appreciate her personality and knowledge.
I agree. I think she would make a great national new anchor. Great personality.
Bought this on Amazon for $5.49 with free shipping!!!
I love when you guys make "Best Of" videos like this.
This program gets me buying thing for the kitchen I’ll hardly ever use. I’m compelled to go get one of these brushes now.
I can so relate!!
Sad
ATK has, hands down, without question, the best, most insightful reviews. Bravo.
Here's a tip: A cheap toilet brush from DollarTree makes an excellent handled-brush for scouring inside big drinking glasses, blender jars, wide-mouthed Thermos bottles, etc. You will, of course, want to dedicate it for that purpose and never use it on toilets. Cheap and cheerful. Works for me.
Good idea thanks
I have an actual bottle brush for this.
Excellent idea👍🏼
Professional housecleaner here: true. They are smaller than other toilet brushes. Pretty good quality ( $1.30 per 1 brush in USA in April 2023.)
Love how you did your hair Lisa, it looks great in today’s video!! 😊
Brought up in other comments, but this brush goes for around $6 online and home depot has some for $3.99
Great tip! Thanks
This is great! I’m buying them as gifts for friends! Thanks ATK!
Dramatic table sweep!
I really think you guys missed the boat on this one. The best sink brush I have ever found is the Rinnig brush at IKEA. I am surprised to see that they have gone up in price to $2.29. I last bought them about 3 years ago when I purchased about 5 of them to serve in two different houses. I think I have only had one wear out to the point that I needed a fresh one. I paid $.99 each for them. I like the suction cup bottom too.
Yesss. Over the last 4 or so years I have only needed to buy a replacement once and it was more for aesthetics as my light green one had some staining and the suction wasn’t great anymore but that is a hell of a lot of use for .99 cents. My new one is black 👍
Great to see someone else has discovered what a deal the IKEA brushes are. Take notice ATK!
@@beammeupscotty1955 here in the US Ikea is not a common store and so due to availability the O cedar was found to be the better choice
What a coincidence! I just ordered this and it was delivered yesterday. Now I need to cook something messy :)
for cast iron... those chain mail works a treat
Love you Guys, I been a Fan since the 1980's
I paid 1.25 at dollar tree. And I love it
My favorite is the Scotch Brite palm scrubber.
We have one very similar and I actually don't like it, because if a pan is at all deep and you have to tip the brush downward that protruding front plastic wedge hits the edge of the pot before the bristles can effectively get into the corners. Even worse with something like a square or rectangular pyrex or aluminum pan. You can sort of wiggle the brush around sideways but it's still not as effective as it could be.
What does stiff bristles how did it hold up against pans that are considered nonstick without scratching?
I tried the O-Cedar brush when I first saw this recommendation. I used it for months but hated it. I finally decided it wasn’t worth the frustration of using something I hate. It’s crazy stiff!
I’ve bought probably 50 ATK recommended products and love most of them. This one wasn’t it. I also disagree with having Cuisinart as the top food processor. The Breville is miles better.
Couldn't agree more! I hate this brush. I have to use more soap because it doesn't hold it as well, and the stiff bristles are not practical because they miss spots and require more force on delicate dishes. KitchenAid used to make an amazing dish brush that was discontinued, and I'm not sure I'll ever find another one like it.
I agree! I did the same thing, and bought the O-Cedar brush when I first saw this video. Yeah, it works when you have some TOUGH food to remove, but for daily use it's waaaay too stiff. I much prefer the softer brush that I have, which I use for routine cleaning, doing the inside of bottles and glasses, etc. The O-Cedar has its moments, but they are few and far between.
I use a brush way more often than I use a sponge. It requires less TLC than a sponge to avoid getting musty, it fits into tall glasses, and it keeps my hands away from sharp blades.
I have two questions. Does it scratch aluminum pans, especially baking pans, and does it fit inside a regular-mouth canning jar? Loved the the big sweep of 'brushing off' the bad brushes, lol.
I have a baby bottle brush for my canning jar and my cups. I ha e no dishwasher right now so having a good array of tools is immensely helpful. I have a bottle brush, another scrubbing brush similar to the ones above, a steel wool scrubber for certain applications, and a standard sponge with a scrubber side.
no it doesnt
Professional housecleaner and the owner of a maid service here: best dish brush on USA market is OXO soap dispensing brush. Shape, bristles, ergonomics, durability etc. Libman (green) is horrible.
I'm always curious about the review of dusters at the intro of the video. Was there an episode about it?
Yes and no? According to the episode guide, it was supposed to be a part of the ATK TV show for PBS, S19, E12 - "Weeknight Italian", but it must've been cut for time to conform to the constraints of the half-hour TV format. So it's probably somewhere - it just never aired. The full review's on their (pay walled) website and a summary of the findings appeared in the May/June 2018 issue of Cook's Illustrated magazine.
O-Cedar makes lots of great stuff. Their kitchen scrub sponge is the best, and the Spin Mop & Bucket is the best I've used, and I've used a lot. 🙂
I love their heavy duty blue & black scrub sponges (scrunges) -- a little pricier than most, but they last at least twice as long as others I've used.
No!
We grab a green scrubbie or a stainless steel pad
There’s one very similar to your winner, at Dollar Tree….green bristles.
when she pushed them all off the counter I DIED 💀💀
Which video shows the gap duster review (blipping in the beginning of this video)?
None. According to the episode guide, it was supposed to be a part of the ATK TV show for PBS, S19, E12 - "Weeknight Italian", but it must've been cut for time to conform to the constraints of the half-hour TV format.
I used to use the dollar tree, I will have to get this one.
Hello
costs £11.60 in uk.
This brush doesn't do it for me. I'm sticking with my Rubbermaid brush. It has the two-sided head, but is rectangular and the bristles hold up even better. I've had mine for over 10 years and it's still holding strong. I only wish they still make it.
Been waiting for this to come back in stock for a long while. 😑
Amazon! That's where I found mine and I paid $12 for it and right now they're $5.49 with Prime.
That soft brush I use as a vegetable brush never as a dish brush
she took it, and THREW IT ON THE GROUND hahahaha yes beautiful
Ha, just yesterday I was scrubbing a skillet with a basic sponge and thinking I needed to get a brush.
This costs $6 Canadian. (In Canada, the brand is called Vileda.)
USA - O-Cedar; Rest of the World - Vileda
@@sandrah7512 Their Scrunge sponges and PowerPad stainless steel scrub pads are the BEST.
Unfortunately this brush is discontinued!
Presently these are only $5.49 on Amazon
$18 is well worth it for a tool that effective 👌 👍 👏 😉 😀
Would like to have seen more detail here... This is not the same caliber of review we're used to seeing from ATK.
If only there was a way to read the full review…🤔
@@sandrah7512 it's a scrub brush, who has time for that? Also, it's a video. They are paid for clicks and views. Making good video content is the bar.
Dollar store sells great brushes for a buck, or a buck 25 now, but well worth it. Save your money!
👍🏻
🤔
Just ordered 2 from Home Depot @ $3.99ea. Takes a ~10 days since they are not in-store. Oh well, I’ll bet I survive.
Brush on !! - Brush off !! ... its the Brusher !
These are roughly $4-$6, not $18
Hi ATK
Salutations from California
The chief Brush Designer at OXO just got fired.
The OXO brush was also recommended. Just because ATK calls one a "winner" doesn't make all the others in the testing line up "losers". 🤷🏼♀
@@sandrah7512 which part of the video at 0:50 did I misunderstand?
@@jeffaley2895 There's a link to the full scrub brush review as well as links to buy all the recommended brushes, including their favourite from O Cedar and the one from OXO provided. This was ridiculous artistic license and at least the second time this TV season that Lisa quoted the wrong price - meaning the price they paid at the time of testing, not a price different that the current going rate. Something must've been pretty screwy the day she recorded all this season's segments.
Damn Oxo didn't won this time lol
Buy it. If you plan on finding another planet to live on.
A totally unnecessary tool for the kitchen. Handy in the shower, though.
mmmm more plastic
SO
What are her qualifications to be considered an expert?
Lisa is willing to test every product, run every test, try every technique to find the best...not to mention her education at Brown University and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. After the tests and cooking, she can effectively write about her findings. Guess we could say she's the Consumer Reports of the kitchen realm. Plus the fact that she's in the kitchen almost all the time. Sometimes life experience is more valuable than a degree. Best teacher ever.
