I feel like social climate of today is so hostile. People are quick to come to conclusions about things and write them off right away. Unfortunately in this case people found some things about the opening distasteful and immediately got out the pitchforks. I don’t think some of the cast’s reaction helped either though. Personally, the show isn’t for me because I’m not within the demographic (or interested in watching) and that’s okay. All that matters is that kids enjoy and relate to the themes and characters. 🤷🏽♀️
Honestly I don't think as many people would have hated this series if the VA of Tater wasn't enough of a weirdo to say that we shouldn't care about Spanish in media being accurate or not cause Spanish is the language of colonists, anyways(and YES, she did say this in English). She could have instead just said that the title is meant to be grammatically incorrect on purpose cause the way Tater is still learning the Spanish language is a huge theme in the series, which is what the creator ended up confirming.
@@dork7546 Yeah, I feel like her response to the discourse definitely made people turn up the hate. It was a weird response and she should have taken a moment to really think before commenting. Love your PFP by the way lol.
Edit: i watched primos and it was very fun and adorable. Tater was a good main trying to learn to live with her cousins while experiencing new things, and her cousins as well were super fun to watch them interact with tater If its about the creator's own life and her experiences, then it cant get more authentic than that. After watching so many story driven stuff, i started getting into more episodic shows. Like ghost and molly cgee (even that had some story behind it), craig of the creek (one of my favorite CN shows ive seen in a while). Since im recovering from ACL surgery ill give it a shot.
I bet the folks who complained are the same Latinos who claim racism doesn’t exist in latinidad and pitch a fit about gringos whenever Latinx is used (it was first used by Puerto Rican psychologists in a Spanish language periodical)
If you get a chance watch Kiff. It got nominated for two emmy's, The voice actor for pearl is in it as one of the teachers, and it has a goated soundtrack. Very funny show you should try it.
@@ladygrey4113 Some definitely were, but please don't paint all people who don't like "Latinx" with the same brush. Some are your usual "anti inclusive" suspects. But a lot of spanish speaking nonbinary people hate it too, including myself. For a lot of us Latine is way better because it's actually something easy to pronounce in spanish and feels more easy to integrate in normal conversation. I mean.. it's still dumb and unnecessary to spread hate over it, but there is nuance to this.
This reminds me of the in the Heights drama from a few years ago. The sad thing is that capitalism dictates that only the most profitable of us in the Creator scene can tell a story, which is why we have so few to go off of. That's why it feels like every single show focus on a Bipoc family has to try to fit in the entire diaspora which sucks

Honestly, this isn’t bad, it’s actually good People need to honestly chill down with the hate & give it a chance The VA should’ve just been quiet or said that the mc doesn’t know spanish instead of.. yea- Glad to see more fans of the show💕
Sadly it was the perfect storm. Delhi hit the nail on the head with the "Cal Arts" hate thing. It was a combination of things that made it an acceptable target, a way for Latin America to shit on Disney. But at the end it was very undeserved and what a shame because the Creator seemed really genuine, and I'm sad to see it also makes it difficult for fans of the show to speak about it. (I'm glad you made a video despite that!) With one exception, all the backlash was either a nitpick or misunderstanding. The 2 things worth changing they did change at the end: Cuquita & Terremoto Heights. AND those were still nitpicks and could've not been change and be fine (Personally I would've added the Nacho siblings, because who names their two children the same name without at least giving them the option of a middle name? But still.. nitpick) The one exception was the smug, condescending VA trying to teach the whole of Latin America about their own history. She was the final nail in the coffin that united all of Latin America into hating the show. I'm certain the hate would've died down way quicker had it not been for her, because some people would've been more willing to either look into things closer, or explain the misunderstandings in spanish for more people to see. It's even worse that a lot of people thought the one in the video was the creator. I was curious to learn more about the chicano experience through this show, but the VA being the voice of the main character is a deal breaker for me. Still, the representation and themes touched in the show are important and I hope it can recover and get a second season too. (You give too much credit to the people complaining by saying the issue is people expect a one size fits all representation. It's too good faith. Sadly a lot of the initial hate wave were a wide combination of people complaining for different reasons, from the typical "this is woke" internet types, to the cynical "F* Disney, stop highlighting us to get into our pockets/sell our 'exotic' culture", and even those joining just because it's fun to hate on something, a few people were genuine, but the vast majority just found it fun to lash out.)

its an alright show. Growing up chicano so alot of stuff on the show was pretty relatable. Heres hoping more hispanic/latino artists can get more recognition.
Honestly, I don't hate Primos, I just thought it was meh. It's kinda like a worse version of the Loud House. But it's overall, an inoffensive show and the cenzor ship surrounding it is really sus.
Primos feels screams Loud House rip off and after watching it on Disney+ it was just Meh honestly your better off re-watching Hey Arnold or Big City Greens
There's a few differences between the two shows. Lincoln is used to living in a house with his 10 sisters whereas with Tater, the news about her primos moving in for the summer is just sprung on her out of nowhere, throwing a wrench into her initial summer plans of using her own "Tater Time" to find her final form, yet spends time with her individual primos and warming to them over time. Show's pretty okay. I do love Big City Greens tho.
@@VigilanteLuluThis concept would work better though if Tater was the one moving in with her cousins rather than her cousins moving in with her, though. Especially since it's established her parents can barely afford to raise 3 kids so it just doesn't make sense for them to volunteer to take care of 12 additional kids for the rest of the summer. Like, make one of their parents lose their job which would force her family to move into the house her mom grew up in. This would also explain her disconnect to her Mexican heritage since this way, she could have previously lived in a white suburb but now, she gets to live in a Hispanic community and rediscover that side of hers.
