    I watched it on TV as it happened. Every time I watch it I tear up. And still amazed that he could hit it out just using his arms

    I'm 63yo and a lifelong Dodger's FAN, have seen thousands of ML BB games over my lifetime and this is the one, single event that still gives me chills every time I watch it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Always loved Gibbie. Hated it when he left the Tigers. He is one of the all time greatest competitors. Bless you boys!!

      Wasn't the color commentator the late, great Joe Garagiola? With Vin at the helm and Joe painting the colors... there'll never be a better broadcast team to bring out the perfect beauty of what used to be America's "national pastime"! That was their greatest call, and they'll be sorely missed.

    How can you not love baseball when it gives you sublime moments like this?
    As a Dodger fan I revered Vin Scully. Garagiola was great as well.
    Probably the most iconic at bat in WS history. Joe Carter's HR for Toronto was great as well.

    Watch how Vin Scully says NOTHING for awhile when Gibson steps up to the plate. Then he says NOTHING after the home run - - for more than a minute and a half. A great announcer knows when to shut and let what you're seeing speak for itself.

    Despite this magical walk off, and his walk off that won the '84 series for the Tigers, Kirk Gibson is not in the HoF, which is a travesty.

    Look at that swing. Like he's just trying to spoil the pitch off. Looked like a routine pop-out to shallow right when I saw it in 1988. Still looks like that. One of the strangest things I've ever seen in a baseball game.

    as a fan I was able to see one dodger game that entire season in person. . my luck it was the Perfect game Tom Browning Threw against my Dodgers. but all was well in the end.
    I was even able to see the end of this game on a tiny color TV that was setup in the video rental section of the Stop and Go mart in Dayton Ohio I was working the night shift at.

    I just saw Eck's life story. He had his flaws, especially his traitor wife. But he grew up and threw out the anniversary pitch to Gibby, 30 years later. That's great!

      He had been sober for maybe two years when he gave up the homerun - and he stayed sober. He may have lost the game, but coming back to Oakland (his home) saved his life.

    And it was after this homerun that Oakland realized that they were going to lose this World Series. At least they won the following year against the Giants.
