as a former Sawtooth Hotshot sawyer, and a current film maker, just wanted to let you know i enjoyed your video. thanks for putting it together and posting it. wish they had the gopro back in the day when i was filming. the camera was not small and the batteries were not light. but i filmed for two full summers on the crew in '95 and '96.
Sendin a hey from wildland firefighter from FL, only 2 years as wildland, 2 years structure. Just went through my S212 class, Was awesome being able to see and understand how you guys work, specifically making the cuts and what not. Be safe 2013, 2012 was a good one.
excellent edit on this video. and of course, great footage. if i could ever find the time i would post footage i shot from my time on the Sawtooth back in '95 and '96. good job with your video.

As a former Hotshot , I Appreciate the footage of these adventures. I wish I had footage of our adventures. it is true , if a person was never out there they'll never know how A RUSH it is to KICK SOME ASH !!!! BUNCH OF BADASS SONS OF A BITCHES ...... KAMARA AYENAS FYR ..... SANTA FE HOTSHOTS AN ALL BROTHERS ON THEM HOTSHOT CREWS..... ITS IN MY BLOOD. I'LL NEVER FORGET . KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AN PROTECT THE FOREST . WE'RE ALL HEROS ..... ONLY THE BRAVE !!
This is 3 years late but yes. There is a difference. Smokejumpers parachutist into the fire (around the fire.) hotshot hike in. Smokejumpers go to the fires you (hopefully) won’t ever hear of. They are both highly skilled.
I want you to know that I looked like a FUCKIN IDIOT, standing in the middle of the room SALUTING my ass off ! Unless they have fought Mother Nature, when she is holding all the cards, people wouldn't understand what it takes to fight fire.
Awesome video guys! I made one with stuff I shot on one of my fires last year (Arapaho Fire Video if you wanna check it out) but after watching yours, I'm hooked. I have got to get a Gopro!
Nice video! It's killer. Now I can show people what I used to do on fires. I was on Sawtooth IHC 89-94, pulaski motor, Sawyer and squad boss. Seriously, the most fun and most monotonous job I've ever had. Chinking line, mopping up forever interspersed with snippets of extreme excitement. Y'all keep a boot in the black. BTW can you hook a brutha up with a Tshirt?
Love the "Earn It" intro. Never forget Dennis yelling that from the ridgetop in 2000.
