      Interested in how you knew your motors were going bad. Did you have a complete failure of a motor or were there obvious signs that a motor was going bad? Just want to know what to look out for.

    • @ChrisM-yr5tt
      @ChrisM-yr5tt 8 лет назад

      Thanks Jason. I could hear it upon landing and it would make a rubbing sound a third of the rotation of the prop. The motors were making a lot more noise when it was landing

    • @JasonScarboro
      @JasonScarboro  8 лет назад

      +Chris M About how long did it last before it started having problems? It's good that you caught it from what I've seen motor failure has been the cause of most of the situations where the drone falls out of the sky.

      i had tried about 12 flights most in the winter weather and some snow. I had 4 flights or so after my only crash. The last flight was a high altitude and in 30 degree weather.

    Great work, great location, what its all about m friend. Didn't take my P3 to SFO. Was checking in, online, said RC was under the restricted list and HAD TO BE CHECKED IN AT THE COUNTER. Meaning, at the very least, it would have to travel in the belly as checked baggage and not with me as carry on. NOT HAPPENING!!! Besides, the whole time I was in SFO sailing the bays and ocean, it was very windy, which is why I was there. So I would not have attempted a 1st time ever launch from a sailboat on the ocean..... don't have the disposable income to attempt something that foolish IMHO. Cheers G

    • @JasonScarboro
      @JasonScarboro  8 лет назад

      Wow no carry on option for the drone that sucks! I wonder if that's everywhere or just at certain airports. I wouldn't want to check my drone as normal luggage either. The San Francisco Bay normally has a pretty good breeze going almost always. I only flew close to there once when I went out to Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands. The wind wasn't horrible but at 15mph with gusts up to 20 it didn't make for comfortable flying either. I'm not willing to take the risk of losing my bird and won't be doing that again. I personally have made a decision to only fly in 10mph winds or lighter.

    Very nice. I assume you have VPS turned off on your P3P while flying over water? Also assume you are using a polarizing filter while flying over the water? I wish Lake Erie was calm like that most of the time .. it might be neat to try one of those long boards which people can paddle whilst standing up. Unfortunately, the lake is too rough for that sort of thing. Cheers

    • @JasonScarboro
      @JasonScarboro  8 лет назад

      Thanks Bill. Yes VPS turned off its no good flying low over water. I actually used an ND8 for this chose to go with the reduce shutter speed. Ideally i would like to use an ND8 PL for a video like this. Polar Pro just came out with their Cinema Vivid series of filters which includes a ND4 PL, ND8 PL AND ND16 PL. Looking forward to trying those soon.

    Nice video. This gives me something to strive for. Give me a shout next time you are up this way. I am only 15 minutes from this lake and I would love to get some advise on flying and setups. My video is garbage compared to yours.

      I love my Phantom. I have only about 2 hours of flight time on it. I am still trying to get the camera setting down so I can get cleaner smoother video. This year I plan to fly a ton more.
