    Seeing Katara so old that she's become a grandma is so wholesome, it makes it feel like she's had a full life. Aang had to go for Kara to happen, bittersweet but no way around it. Sokka not being there does suck, but i have no doubt that he lead a life full of fun and adventure.

    To be clear: two benders of different elements can have children that are benders of either element or a non bender.
    For example, an Air Bender and a Water bender can have children that are Air Benders, Water Benders or non benders. None of them can bend both air and water together.

    How nice that you started with Korra. It's a different series, more adult, with characters perhaps not as charismatic as those in ATLA, but certainly very interesting.
    Regarding the emotional beats, yes, this series handles them with great mastery for the ATLA fan. But you will enjoy all the references to the first series.
    And, to give you an idea, Korra is the complete opposite of Aang as far as being an Avatar is concerned so, while the comparison is inevitable, don't read too much into it either. (Besides, Korra is a TEENAGER. With all that implies 🤣).

    While some people didn't like the technological advancement 70 years into the future, I feel like it makes a lot of sense. They have an era of peace, so people spend a lot more time working together instead of against one another with the technological progress they've already had (as seen in ATLA, people did already have machines and air ships), but also if we look at our own human history, we haven't even had cars until the late 19th century and look at where we are now little over 100 years later, the technological advancement rapidly increased within a short amount of time and stagnated greatly during the world wars.

      ATLA was on the cusp of the Industrial Revolution. Fire Nation was using coal power. After the war, obviously the new Fire Lord was willing to help and cooperate with the world rather than subjugate it. Add in that ability with the discovery of metalbending and the ability of earthbenders to mine with ease and you get a super Industrial Revolution.
      For a lot of their tech, particularly in the field of communication, they’re in the 1920s. You see radios, old fashioned cameras, and older looking vehicles (satomobiles) but no television yet.

  • @Wright805
    @Wright805 10 месяцев назад +3

    4:23-4:57 The way it works is this: bending is USUALLY passed from parent to child but there's no guarantee. Likewise two non-benders can have a bender child (Katara for example, neither of her parents could bend). It's a bit like how Force-sensitivity works in Star Wars.
    If two benders of different elements have children (like Aang and Katara) then said children will either be non-benders or they'll inherit the bending of ONE of their parents. In this case Tenzin took after his father and inherited Air-bending (I won't spoil what Kya and Bumi are).
    5:05-5:18 No spoilers, but remember Katara said "many of my friends are gone." Not ALL of them.

    The huge advancement in technology was the most jarring aspect of this show. This show is set only about 60-70 years after the end of ATLA. In ATLA only the Fire Nation had any level of modern-ish industrialization with sophisticated metallurgy and the steam engine. The other three nations were far behind technology-wise, living what looks like about 17th century lifestyles. In a short 60-70 years they have gas power internal combustion cars, airplanes, cameras, microphones, skyscrapers, trains, huge subway systems, movies, etc. It looks like Republic City is about 1920's level technology.

    • @Gamelover254

      Well it makes sense that after the war, knowledge about this technology spread and with people like the mechanist, Sokka and the fire nation engineers who were already working in avatar, it’s no surprise how far they came.
      The time frame is very similar to our own Industrial Revolution actually.

    • @adamcollazo8228

You need some sort of modern economic system with developed financial institutions (banking, monetary policy, etc) along with a well established STEM educational system to education and train generations of scientists, engineers, tradesmen, etc. You also need a large middle class with the disposable income to create demand for all sorts on modern technology.

      The Fire Nation said they wanted to share their culture. Prince Zuko and Aang apparently that a vital part of doing that was to share the technology that helped make them so powerful so that no one would needlessly fear the Fire nation ever again.

    4:23 When 2 benders of different elements have kids, there's a chance they'll be able to bend one element or the other, or no element at all. For example! with Aang and Katara's kids, Tenzin is an air bender, Kya is a water bender, and Bumi is a non-bender.
    I'm not sure if you were suggesting the possibility of someone being able to bend both of their parents elements, but no, that is indeed not possible. The Avatar remains the only person with the ability to bend more than one element.
    I'm sure you've seen episode 2 by now. It's the same deal with Mako and Bolin. Earth bending father, fire bending mother. Mako got fire, Bolin got earth.

  • @JGM154
    @JGM154 10 месяцев назад +1

    In regards to the "sudden" industrialization of the world of "Avatar: The Last Airbender," it's not really THAT farfetched if you look into some of the industrial elements seen in the original show. Industrialized technology did exist. It was mainly in the weaponry that was utilized by the Fire Nation (cable cars, factories, hot-air balloons, steam-powered warships, etc).
    This series is exploring an interesting real-world parallel in how military technology can often be repurposed for commercial value to the civilian populace. Take the internet as an example. It was invented in 1983, likely to be used as a tool against communism. Once the Cold War started to die down, its creators felt that it could serve a practical purpose in a civilian capacity (and a profitable purpose for them).

    They challenge themselves to add more details to the characters in this show and then those extra details turned into the animation being way more difficult and expensive. Almost getting the show canceled twice. And in the last season the studio made them decide between firing a bunch of people or cutting the budget for one of the episodes. They decided to cut the budget cuz they cared about their team. But that one episode is ridiculed for being lower quality, which isn't fair.

    It's a very different story than the original series. Probably better to go in not expecting the same kind of epic storytelling. Okay, so bending isn't genetic. Basically, the percentage of born benders has less to do with genes and more to do with the overall spirituality of a nation. For instance, the nation connected most deeply to the spirits are the air nomads. Therefore, every air nomad child born is an airbender. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you've got the LEAST spiritual nation, the earth kingdom. A very small percentage of earth kingdom citizens born are benders.

    • @NameHere2856
      @NameHere2856 8 месяцев назад

      So it technically is Genetic, just not the way one would assume. If an Airbender had. A kid with an earth bender and the kids had either no bending or earth bending, that would check put. Say those kids have kids and none of those kids are benders. And Then THOSE kids have kids and one of them gets air bending. That would be how it works considering they have the spititual blood of the air nomads within.
      Now it's important to note that all air nomads were air benders, and air acolytes were those who were either non-benders or bended a different element, but wanted to live the air nomad way.

    Don't worry so much about the comics. Although they take place between Last Airbender and Korra, they weren't published till after Korra was over, and they reflect some of the subtle changes to the setting that are introduced in the latter. Also, it's been 70 years since the end of AtLA. They purposely sidelined the original Gaang to keep the focus on the new avatar and her story.

    You'll get a lot of misinformation getting into this show, so here's a quick easy run down to make things clear:
    - Korra got approved for a mini series (book 1)
    - They showed a panel, it did well, they got approved for book 2 before anything even being aired. (to make it enough episodes for a syndicated season, meaning book 1 and 2 is technically 1 season, and book 3 and 4 are another season).
    - Book 1 Airs. They get approved for book 3 and 4.
    - Book 3 airs, but because season book 2 had less viewers, they moved the time slot a lot, eventually even airing it online only.
    The issue Korra show may have had or not, is never because they thought each season might be a last one or not, it's that they wanted an increasingly deeper and more mature show and Nickelodeon kept asking for edits and changes nonstop, which backed up a lot of the process. With that said just like in any fandom you'll find people that love it, or hate it, but usually the more you can appreciate it for what it is, instead of comparing them, the more fun you'll have.
    Season 3 is considered a masterpiece to most fans of either series. Season 2 is crucial to worldbuilding and avatar lore. Season 4 is a great conclusion to the 3 earlier books. Each season has it's amazingness and I hope you enjoy them as much as we did! The only non-spoiler advice I can give you, is unless you're watching it on Netflix, subtitles off for season 4. Can't say anything else and no one else should elaborate.

      Should subtitles also be off for season 2? I forget whether they spoiled.

    5:57 Well if anything they are a little slow.
    Its been 70 years since Ang's Adventures 1954 our world's time. Think about what it was like in 1954 and what i's like now. 😉

    it is 70 years after Avatar. Only the Avatar can have more than one element - but if your parents are both different types of benders, then you could be either type or not a bender at all.
    There is so much I want to tell you - but I know that would be taking the joy of the first watch from you so my lips are sealed.

    the producers gravely erred on making katara that old looking.
    as a master waterbender, katara should be looking like she's in her mid 20s to early 30s.
    notice why king bumi, of the earthbenders, had a body of 30yr old, even though he was over a 110yrs old.
    master benders ages are greatly slowed.
    Avatar Yeng Chen lived over a 1000 years old but they changed the story for the cartoon.
    it's a terrible american philosophy, regarding age & not having a elder parents look young.
