G'day Harry, welcome to the incredible world of Neal Morse. This song was from the "Similtude of a Dream" concept album which was based on the book "The Pilgrims Progress". Neal started out co-founding the progressive rock band Spock's Beard in the early 90,s, became a born again Christian & went solo. He also collaborated 20 odd years ago with members of other progressive rock bands: Roine Stolt - Flower Kings, Pete Tewalas - Marillion & Mike Portnoy - Dream Theater (who you see on drums in this clip) to form the prog super group "Transatlantic". He put this latest project together 10 or so years ago. As you can see the musicianship, the vocals & the songs are phenomenal. IMO they are the premier progressive rock band of the modern era, the incredible thing about Neal is that he has all these & more projects going at once, he's like the centre of the wheel & these projects are the spokes. The volume & quality of his compositions over the years is absolutely astounding. There is so much incredible material to explore, next would recommend "The call" & "Waterfall" from "The Grand Experiment" album, you will be blown away!! Enjoy the journey

And don't forget that '60s sound came from Morse and Portnoy's, Yellow Matter Custard, a Beatles cover group.

Glad that you've got to this Harri, this is a prog supergroup made up of Neal Morse, the composer, second guitarist and keyboard player and one of the vocalists, the great Mike Portnoy on percussion and vocals, Randy George on Bass Guitar, Eric Gillette on Lead guitar and vocals and Bill Hubaurer on Lead keyboards and vocals - together with friends and family.
This song is taken from Similitude of a Dream, a double CD based on Pilgrim's Progress, Morse being a very evangelical Christian. This song seems to be from the part where Christian has been tempted from the straight path by Mr Worldly Wiseman who claims that Mr Legality can remove the burden from Christian. Christian becomes scared as he approaches the house and is found by Evangelist, who leads him back to the path, assures him that his sins can be forgiven and points him again to the wicket gate.
The melodies within this song are tremendous, the musical skills are almost matchless, the harmonies are breathtaking, the lyrics are attention-grabbing - it's just wonderful in my estimation and yet Morse has written and performed hundreds of other songs which are its equal.
It also bears Greybeard's seal of approval, I think that he said he has seen them perform four times. I don't know if this includes Morse Fest but the band will perform entire albums there, even though they often last for an hour and a half. You can watch videos of the performances on RUclips.
Anyway, glad that you enjoyed it. This is the band I'm mostly listening to at the moment.
For Prog fans, Morse was a founder of Spock's Beard and Portnoy of Dream Theatre. They grew up listening to prog which is why the music is so influenced by the early to mid-Seventies.

I absolutely recommend Similtude of a Dream to anyone who doesn't own it.

This song is from 2017. An original song, not a remake at all. That is exactly the point of their music. All bands where Neal Morse is or has been a member, have that 70s Progressive Rock vibe, instrumentation and orchestration, mixed with pop hooks.
If you were impressed with this song, please find the song titled "The Call" (as someone mentioned before). That song has all the elements of what you can expect to hear from the band in a single song.

Neal, the guy on the acoustic guitar is the lead singer, just not on this song.
When they play this live, they do the entire double album only stopping once for a break. Each song "morphs" in the next one without stopping. There are also repeating themes that weave in and out of the album, as in classical music. You could call it a "rock opera" I guess. However, it is more like a symphony with the repeating themes. The album even begins with an overture introducing many of the "themes" that you'll hear throughout the (mostly) nonstop performance.

Wonderful reaction video to a great song by arguably the most gifted Prog Rock band of our lifetime. Their combined musical talent is unsurpassed - all 5 guys collaborate in writing their songs, and play multiple instruments at a professional level,(watch the live version of "Alive Again: from their first album "The Grand Experiment"). I agree with Gazza - give "The Call" and "Waterfall" a spin to hear their range. Also recommend "Man in the Iron Cage" from the same album as So Far Gone. But listen to any or all of their 4 (so far) albums - there isn't a bad or even mediocre song among them. Their music and their message will take you on a journey you have to experience to believe.

Great reaction, Harri. The thing is, it's virtually impossible to tell old, 60's and 70's prog rock from the records (lots of them) coming out now, some by the older bands who are still at it, but mostly from new, young artists. For me, about the only way to tell what vintage these are is by how good the studio recording process is, but even that can fool you. I've recently been on a real prog rock binge. I'm 78, and it's been so exciting discovering the fantastic stuff available. Thousands of albums, all of which were basically ignored by me over the years for some reason. This band, The Neal Morse Band may be my favorite find. You MUST listen to their double album, "Similitude of a Dream". It is the best prog record I've found so far. I'm having so much fun searching through this new-to-me genre of music, it'll probably become illegal, as so many good things do. Once again, kudos on your reaction.

Neal Morse band is incredible. The best of modern progressive rock. Definitely influenced by the music of the 70s. Check out the band Gentle Giant

And for Harri, Yellow Matter Custard, which Portnoy and Morse, who are massive Beatles fans, formed. Harri would love them.
