So, so pretty. A lovely excursion into nature. Yet so close to a major urban area. Hard to believe it so devoid of human habitation. Thank you for another great excursion. I always enjoy our drives.

Its my pleasure, Richard! Most of the land you see in the video is National Forest land, and tring to live in the SoCal mountains is dangerous. Fire risks and landslides, and the San Andreas fault runs through these mountains. Its not the best place to build a house. I love these local mountains!

My Dad taught me to drive up Old 39 before the rock slide in his ‘50 Buick with no power steering. It was a fun day to go up from Orange County and go down the backside to Wrightwood and then home.

Cool story, but a tough road to learn to drive on. The 39 to Wrightwood would be so much faster from most of LA than going all the way on Hwy 2! It would save you probably an hour. Thanks for watching, Jonathan!

This road used to be the fast route into these mountains. I hope they will finish the repairs soon!

@@ridealongwithscott Its definetly a positive if there is talk of reopening it Scott, will help a lot of California drivers in that area shorten their journey time.

I lived in HB right at PCH and Beach Blvd/39 for 15 years. I use to drive from there all the way up the 39 to the end like you did. Spent a lot of time up there fishing, hiking and mostly relaxing. I hope they don't repair and open it up the Hwy 2, that will increase traffic and destroy the peace of it all. And that winding road will increase accidents for sure. Been 18 years since I've been there so nice to take a ride and see how much has changed, for the good, no guard rails last time I was there.

Dude, I totally get what you're saying! It's always bittersweet to see places you love change. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and memories. Let's hope they don't mess up that winding road!

It is a trip into the mountains in under 2 hours for all the greater LA area. Not as slick as a lot of the other mountain communities, but it did go all the way to the Mt.Waterman ski lifts back in the day. Thanks for checking it out Robert!
