I refuse to believe the grandmother would do something like that to Max, she is literally a saint. And there’s this one episode where Ruby makes a cake for her and Max wanted to make a cake too so he made a mud cake for her. Usually someone’s reaction to a kid making them a monstrosity of a cake with literal mud would be, idk, like “ewwww I’m not eating that” or something like that, but the grandmother was nice about it and said that she liked both cakes. Of course she probably wouldn’t actually eat it, but she at least appreciated his effort to make something nice for her.

Nickelodeon said they didn’t have parents so it teaches kids to resolve their issues and conflict when there on their own. So they make good choices.
I like that idea. Parents aren't around forever so showing a cartoon where the children make independent choices can teach kids to become more independent and to learn more about problem solving

I mean, it's completely normal for a 3 yr old kid to play with toy police cars and ambulances, dress up and wanting to be a superhero, and not talk much. And the parents might just have long work hours and aren't around much. Plus, this is based on the creators kids and she said that she wanted to focus more on the kids and how they solve problems on their own. I see this "Theory" as more of a poor attempt at trying to make a kids tv show scary.
Edit: Looking back on this, I do sound a little mean. I'd just like to say that this is a good try at a theory but you do need to provide more evidence to back up said theory.

They were in one episode, and turns out max talks full sentences in that episode.
Counter theory: Max is silent because Ruby neglects him and he feels talking isn't going to get her attention. He instead bides his knowledge inside so he can use what he knows and what he learns from Ruby in each episode to his advantage. He knows there's little chance to survive without his parents and Ruby getting distracted with Louise all the time and not focusing on him too much only proves he's right. He's used his advanced knowledge to install chips into each of his toys that allow him to control them telepathically and then uses them to sabotage Ruby at times she ignores him, or save her or someone else in a time of need. His Superbunny suit is his only hint of revealing his true capabilities to the world.
Conclusion: That car crash actually left him with much higher IQ than nearly anyone else. He's laying low and acting dumb around Ruby because he knows she'll interfere with his plans, but he's gonna make sure he goes unstopped at this pace.

This honestly just sounds like "Hey, what's one of the most horrifying reasons that we can think up that could explain something mundane?" Kids play with firetrucks and ambulances because first responders seen by them as the real life heroes, and some of the most widely known jobs among young kids. Children also love to play superhero simply because it's cool, the good guy always wins, and it helps them feel powerful and in control. There's no real evidence to suggest a car crash or being assaulted (especially since Max is so strongly bonded with his grandmother, which I know could be attributed to Stockholm syndrome, but he relates just fine to others as well)

About the comment on Max being Autistic:
I myself am on the spectrum, and people who are on the Autism spectrum typically have poor social skills, including not being very talkative. I think that they got the idea of Max being Autistic because of his lack of dialog, whereas a normal 3 year old would talk just fine. Another thing that helps is Max consistently has a neutral face most of the time. This is another trait for people on the spectrum (I think).
I don't know. That's just my two cents. Also, I fucking hate the idea that the grandmother did that to Max. Seriously! What in the actual fuck?!

I'm autistic as well, but I am more mature than most other people with autism, making me a 50/50 balance.
I don't think Max is autistic because I know several friends and my younger sister who has mild autism and they HATE sirens which seems to be when Max is the most happy.
Also he said in the beginning he started acting bad because of a car accident and he acts bad because he is autistic, so basically it's him saying he developed autism because of a car accident? Autism is a GENETIC DISORDER (I also have autism myself).

My little "headcanon" when I was little was that the entire world was a simulated experiment set up by scientists and one of the side experiments included seeing how two siblings would do on their own without parental supervision. Nothing too dark or complex but I felt cool at the time thinking I had the show figured out 😎
Why is it more believable that max was in a car accident because he plays with the most common toys, but not that he’s just a non verbal autistic? Rabbits abandon there kids and it’s quite common, and they are bunnies.
Counterarguments:
1. If Max really was hurt, why is there so many times where he wanted to do something nice for Grandma?
2. It’s a kids show, there’s no way on Earth that Nickelodeon would even consider the theory canon.
3. Super Bunny is a thing, not just his imagination. Comic books, various pieces of merchandise, a radio show. We even SEE the Bunny of Steel in the mall. The Huffingtons, Morris, Louise, and various background bunnies are shown to be big enough fans for the line to see him to lead OUT THE MALL. At most he wants to be LIKE him: a hero.

As someone who was partially nonverbal as a kid I hate it when people try to theorize why a silent character doesn’t talk. I feel like people are washing away the existence of autistic and neurodivergent people. I don’t know why it has to be such a big deal that someone doesn’t talk. I loved non talking characters when I was a kid (max, bumblebee in the transformers movies, even shows where no one talks like Pengu and Oscars Oasis) because it made me feel normal because in real life when I wouldn’t talk everyone would make a big deal about it. Why does there have to be some crazy explanation why someone doesn’t talk? Why can’t it just be satisfying enough for them to simply just be neurodivergent. Why is that not good enough for people.

Everyone needs to stop saying I have brain injuries. It's normal for a 3-year-old to not talk much, and there was never any car accident. My parents are still alive; they just rarely show up on screen for the show. The same thing for the books. And no, before you say that the newer seasons are flashbacks, THEY ARE NOT! Also, I'd like to clear up that 0004 is fake. The events in that so-called "lost episode" are fake and never happened. Saying that your autistic kind of gives you a connection to me, said even though you've only been books and on screen for a very short amount of time, which makes me feel very sad for you fluff balls for a family, to me it seems like that there could be a chance that if you have autism, like mine, yours could be a little off the spectrum balance like mine. I'm also probably saying, probably the best episode I've seen of you and your sisters show is you're the chameleon you're trying to care for. Even though you tried to let it out, what I really thought the chameleon was going to do even though the animal was silent, would hiss at you, puff its chin up, and then lash its tongue out. Chameleons do have a tendency to do that. They mostly hiss like a snake and pop their chins up when threatened. Ruby said that they animal will change its color to match whatever it's on to hide away from predators or enemies. That is true, but she didn't get that 100% correct. Actually, chameleons will color change their scales for a warning to others, camouflaging from predators, or to express their feelings. So, if the chameleon was threatened, in the show if it ever showed feeling, it scales would have turned a bright red or orange color. That also would be hissing softly and maybe showing squinted eyes. I've also heard that if you didn't know this, if your favorite dinosaur is a triceratops, like mine, the Jacksons chameleon species, which is just one out of 200 different species types, makes it basically a real living triceratops! But, instead of having a beak mouth, they have teeth in their mouths, chameleons have small, yet serrated and very small and sharp teeth to help crush their food, which to me, ever since seeing one with its mouth open, makes me seem like they have tiny little knives in their mouth. There is a very rare chance that the animal will actually bite you. As a baby, they're small enough to fit on your finger.
I gotta admit that somehow Max and Ruby's parents not being seen is so unbelievably weird and it not being confirmed that whatever really happened to The parents is yet to be explained.

When ruby was max's age, she used to a have a 3rd sibling but then her 3rd sibling died of choking on a toy and that truamatized her and her parents blamed it on her, then when max was born she loved him very much and because of the truama she became really overprotective of him especially since he has Autism, her parents (or grandmother if her parents are dead) enabled her behavior, causing her to become like that, she then went too far into being overprotective, Ruby is not a sociopath, if she was a sociopath she would abandon max, she just cares too much
So i blame her awful parents for enabling her behavior, a lot of people are saying ruby is a narcissist or a psychopath, i disagree but she can grow into a sociopath if her parents continue to enable her behavior and not give her love

1: max and ruby's parents aren't there. *Its because they have work to do. And the episodes only last before they come back*

I watched this show when I was four years old and remember rushing down stairs everyday to see if the show was on
It’s more likely Max and Rubys parents were away for a while, possibly for a work trip. Since Ruby is quite mature for her age, and grandma was right down the street, it’s likely when they left for that trip, whatever it was, they left max with Ruby, and told them to go to grandma if they need anything. This is a more likely scenario since max and rubys parents do return later on, yes this is when max is now 5 and Ruby is like 9 or 10 but still. That seems like it would make more sense since max starts talking more when he gets a little older. There was no trauma, max was just a toddler acting like a toddler would.

I know these theories are all lies. People need to face reality, these kids shows are often written up and even animated very cheaply and quick unless you have an overly popular and expensive property like Sesame Street. Who cares if these standard standard kids shows make no sense, they're not supposed too, they're supposed to entertain little kids with their bright colors and simplistic stories. These crazy theories are all just adults over analyzing a show they used to like but grew out of many, many years ago, as they look at it through the lens of nostalgia.

This is Max's parents and we would like to say that we have been leaving max and ruby alone for a long amount of time. This is because of our bosses forcing us to work overtime and the reason we came back is because we now have a nicer boss. That does not do overtime very often and we apologize for leaving our kids at home for a long time. This was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid! As a Christian the theory I would like to believe, is that mom and dad bunny are missionaries who go on missions trips throughout the years, leaving Ruby to watch Max! That would explain why the parents return when they appear to be older, rather than younger! Just a more innocent theory than these!

This is true but if thats the case than we're still going off the fact that Max & Ruby are based on real events by the author, how do we know, EVEN THOUGH these events MIGHT NOT have happened because its a child's tv show, that the writer used it EXACTLY for that reason, because nobody will believe any of it happened.

I never watched max and ruby growing up, but I remember my friends talking about max being disabled or something when I was like 8 years old. I do remember that there was a reboot and their parents were in the show, max is also talking so this could be pre events of their parents dying.

My brother is three and he’s autistic the only connections of him and max are him being non verbal but only saying one word every so often. He’s pretty quiet but if upset he’ll scream because he doesn’t know how to express his emotions. I feel the parents dying in a car accident is a stretch if they did die why would the grandmother leave them in their house instead of staying there with them. My guess is the creators just didn’t want to add parents to the show and only wanted to show the kids thoughts and actions because the cartoon is to help kids learn they can help themselves if they have problems ,and won’t always need adults, more or less to teach them independence.
0004 is non-canon to the max and ruby universe as well as the car accident because we see Max and ruby's parents in later seasons. The car accident is just a theory and it is fake.

Well this is pretty interesting that somehow 2 kids who aren't even old enough to work jobs yet live on their own, and that this is perfectly fine and legal within their community and everyone is just okay with it.
So my sister and i made a theory saying that max and ruby’s parents abused them and yelled at them if they made a mess so then ruby was mad so she took max into a new home and max doesnt talk cause he has trama

I personally don't believe the car crash theory; I think it's just a little farfetched seeing that the evidence is that Max has a police and ambulance car and that he's somewhat mute. Same with the grandma theory, as the only 'evidence' is that Max likes a superhero. Super Bunny probably is just a toy or show character that Max admires. I just assume Max was born like this and their parents are always gone when we see them. But hey, I don't do theories like ever- so I could be completely wrong about everything I've said! This is not meant to be mean or anything btw.
No its okay, I love hearing the theories you may have and your probably right, it could just be that they're parents are away at work all the time and they never see them, Max could just be REALLY young and when your like what, younger than 4 your not expected to really talk, so I mean you do make a valid point!
As a dude who is autistic max is functional he has the characteristics since my girlfriend is also in the spectrum she is sometimes verbal in fact I gone to a school full autistic after high schoolers until age 22
