The wax coated papers turned out beautiful. One word of caution I suggest is if you sell your products that have bees wax on them is to put a caution on the product that this product contains bees wax. Many people who have bee allergies also are allergic to bees wax and bees wax can cause an allergic reaction in them. My son is allergic to bees, honey and bees wax. I use reg wax(bees wax free) from candles that I grate up to avoid allergic reaction issues. That also works wonderfully.
Nik the Booksmith makes her vellum paper using clear spray acrylic. Just spritz the paper on one side - wait one second for it to dry - then spray on the other side. VIOLA, it's done. Takes all of two minutes, if that much. Of course, do it in a well-ventilated room or outside. No iron, hundreds of pages of vellum from one $3 can of clear acrylic. No iron, no wax/oil residue on other papers, no mess, no smell, no stickiness, and the finished product can be run through the PRINTER! Try it and you will swear by it.
@@andreaelizabeth5494 The faux vellum is pretty translucent so it takes on the color (or the image) of the page underneath it. I've only tried it on plain copy paper but think it would be a neat experiment with colored paper.
I used to use waxed paper for crafts with the kids when they were young. I put a sheet of aluminum foil down under the waxed paper. Often I put another piece on top to protect my iron. I love what the waxed paper did to the scrapbooking paper!
Oh my goodness! I just tried this and IT WORKS!!!! It is sooo beautiful and, just like she said, it doesn't ruin your iron. Thank you Betty. I simply love it!
I love this idea! And I love watching you experiment with different things. Oh, and I know that the fly is aggravating to you but I couldn't help but getting tickled every time he would fly in front of the screen. A photo bombing fly! Lol. Love your videos and thanks for all you do!
Thank you so much for trying out the melt wax, I will go down that route as lighter on the purse. I am so excited and cant wait to get started. thank you. ❤
Brenda from Oregon here, I tried the baby oil and it did bleed onto papers I had it up against. Didn’t bother me but I also had it in a project that it would’t be a problem if it did bleed. Love this second option of wax from the dollar tree! Thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas!!!!!
How beautiful! I only have regular wax (maybe Parafin?) for candle making. I'll give it a try and see if it works. I use a separate iron for crafting. I'm always afraid I'll get something on our clothes otherwise. Though truth be told, I seldom iron our clothes. Lol Hugs, Shell
How amazing you are. Wow, girl. I am so in awe of your beautiful faux vellum. So inspiring and perfect for those of us who need ways to stay on our fixed budget snd use what we have. Thank you so much for sharing your talents and your family with us. Have a blessed day. ✝️🙏
Oh my goodness, I cannot wait to try this! I have never used velum before, because we are on a fixed income, so I am very excited about this! Thank you for showing us this! Definitely a game changer! ❤❤❤
WOOOOOW... Betty, thank you so much. i tried this and i feel like this 77 year old woman just invente sliced bread...it was loads of fun and worked the very first time. so thank you for your adventure out side the box and inviting me along. i also want to thank tou for shaing your time and talent and generosity with all the people ay scrapbookingwitme. have a blessed day. you fan and admirer, fae
Well Betty, this is the coolest idea I've seen in a long time, it's great. I have to go out aftershave and pick up a few things and will be sure to stop by Dollar Tree. Thank you so much for this tutorial. 💗
I've used the oil before. The first time was perfect! The second time, oil just bled all over other papers. But this is a great idea with bees wax. I will be trying this and your papers are gorgeous!
Can’t wait to try this technique! Thank you for sharing. I’m some what worried putting my iron directly onto the wax, so do you thing i could put a non waxy paper on top then use my iron,?😊 started watching further and see you did use another paper on top lol
What is the newsprint with the pink flower? LOVELY! Where can I purchase that? such Beautiful Paper! I do make Velum with Fractionated Coconut oil and it does stay wet for a couple days! I just continue to dry it with Paper towel. However this looks like MUCH MORE FUN!!!
Yes saw it on another site but she used wax from dollar tree, & put it between the 2 pieces of wax paper, then ironed on top. I love all these ladies, I learn so much from all of them 😍
That is a great idea! I loved the other way, but could never get it to stop seeping. I have several crafting irons I can use with this technique. So I will try this one because velum if getting expensive for those of us on retirement. LOL.... So does the wax, once it's dry, stiffen the doilies?
love this idea. I wanted to suggest that if you brought a plant in a pot from garden last fall they live in the soil and one day out of the blue you have a house of flies. It happened to us after we brought in tiny tomatoes we grew in containers. We were experimenting w/ plants putting frt on thru our northwest weather. About April we had nasty flies all over. I cannot remember where I got my knowledge from but I think it was the computer. That was my experience.
Do you think this would make an old newspaper bleed? I would like to preserve old newspaper pieces that my mother had placed under a stool cushion over 70 years ago. It is fragile right now. Can you decoupage this paper onto furniture? Love your videos! Thank you!
I just tested several digital papers with different oils. About a month ago...none of them "dried". I used olive oil, jojoba, glycerine and hair oil ....the jojoba worked the best but still bleeds into the sheet below. I'm glad I didn't put the papers in my project🥴 Does the wax bleed or is it completely dry to touch and no bleed. Will try your method! TFS 🥰
Hi Betty! I'm a new subscriber to your channel. Omg I love this idea & your tutorials are so great & your instructions are point on. I've been binge watching your videos & have made a few of your projects. Would love to know a few great sites to get your beautiful papers...omg I love them. Stay blessed & have a great Memorial Day weekend.
You can buy a glide compound for irons to make them run smoothly over the cloth. Having the wax on your iron works the same way. Just be sure to have a very thin layer of wax so that there is not extra wax melting into your clothes after you have made vellum.
Thanks for the great video and love the spontaneous experiment using 'budget wax'! I'm wondering if wax from crayons would work too. 🤔 🤷♀️ Blessings!!!
This is so fantastic!! I've never seen something like this. I will definitely be trying this. So, are there any special ways to use this paper after you wax it? Your going to have to give your fly a name. Its been there over 3 weeks now. Too funny. Thank you for demonstrating this for us.
Go to the feed store local to you and buy fly bags. You fill them up to the fill line and hang them outside in a tree. The flies are attracted to them and not your home/bbq grill etc. We hang them on either side of our house in the trees and have never had a problem with flies. I will warn you that once they have been hanging out there for awhile, they will start to stink. BUT, they are the best thing on the market.
I still use oil w no problem but this is amazing and oh my word gorgeous.. Oh Betty this is so beautiful!!! What fun and bees wax smells great !! Woah !! Beautiful!! What about napkin ? Too thin ?? Yes indeed 🌷money so tight .
You could try just paraffin. That would be clear & have no scent for those who are sensitive to scents. It’s very inexpensive too. Thanks for this demo. It’s a great idea!!!😄
I love the effect you are getting using this easy technique! I am going to try this right away. Would you be able to cut these pages into various shapes to use as ephemera which need to be glued down? I guess you could use as a pocket or tag if you stitched them…
I used 2 different kits from my Etsy. One is the Belmont collection and the other is Hope’s Rose. www.etsy.com/shop/BettysCustomDesign?ref=seller-platform-mcnav
This is really cool. Does the paper or wax crack from the wax afterwards when you fold it? I really like that & will definitely be trying it. BTW I do have some of those wax warmer cubes so I'll start with those. Thank you for sharing your techniques. 😊
You could use a sil-pat mat to do this on and leave the wax on it to dry when done. And then you would be able to use the leftover wax instead of wasting it/ throwing it away. 🤷♀️
Same with my cat. The second I try to do any computer work, he starts! And if I am talking, he screams as if he's being murdered. lol Has people saying omg, what happened to your cat. lol

Ohhhhh. I will have to try that!!!
I've done that on napkins and it's gawjus!! Gorgeous too!!
Does that mean that you create essentially a solid colour “vellum”? If so, you just saved my sanity.
@@andreaelizabeth5494 The faux vellum is pretty translucent so it takes on the color (or the image) of the page underneath it. I've only tried it on plain copy paper but think it would be a neat experiment with colored paper.
Yes, I've created faux velum from color copy paper.
Best Glassine/Vellum I've seen thus far.
I used to use waxed paper for crafts with the kids when they were young. I put a sheet of aluminum foil down under the waxed paper. Often I put another piece on top to protect my iron. I love what the waxed paper did to the scrapbooking paper!
Guess I didn’t have to ask my question if I had read this one. 😂 ❤
Oh my goodness! I just tried this and IT WORKS!!!! It is sooo beautiful and, just like she said, it doesn't ruin your iron. Thank you Betty. I simply love it!
I love this idea and love your purple iron!
I love this idea! And I love watching you experiment with different things. Oh, and I know that the fly is aggravating to you but I couldn't help but getting tickled every time he would fly in front of the screen. A photo bombing fly! Lol. Love your videos and thanks for all you do!
Thank you for putting the Dollar Tree wax melt test as part of the same video. I love this!
I’m going to try my old book page too !! Genius 🌷
Oh my goodness the doilies !!! Wow
Save your iron by using silicone baking paper between the iron and the wax. You can reuse it, too, and keep the iron clean.
Such a great idea! I only use that method with fabric for wrapping food, but this I will try for sure! TFS!
Greetings from Germany!
I think for me, I would use a cheese grater on the wax as I am very cautious around blades and cutting with them. Love this idea.
MUCH smarter than the way I was doing it!
Thank you so much for trying out the melt wax, I will go down that route as lighter on the purse. I am so excited and cant wait to get started. thank you. ❤

Kit is delightful - romantic !
This would be the ONLY reason I'd get the iron out and turn it on 😁😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm glad I found your channel. Lots of good info. And you are a very sweet lady.
Yes! I use all my old wax melts after I use them, ( mine were from Walmart cuz I like a specific smell of 1 there🤣) so I’m saving $, & I’m recycling!
Hello Betty, thanks for sharing this great tut on faux wax paper.
The wax melts have oil in them, which is why they work so good! Thank you for the alternative tutorial. It really turns out beautiful.
How amazing you are. Wow, girl. I am so in awe of your beautiful faux vellum. So inspiring and perfect for those of us who need ways to stay on our fixed budget snd use what we have. Thank you so much for sharing your talents and your family with us. Have a blessed day. ✝️🙏
Awe! Thank you so much!
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ! I have had no problems with the oil bleed either.....I used paper towels also.
TFS! This is an absolute game changer considering the expensive cost of vellum. I just love this!
Oh my goodness, I cannot wait to try this! I have never used velum before, because we are on a fixed income, so I am very excited about this! Thank you for showing us this! Definitely a game changer! ❤❤❤
Have a great weekend Betty . Hope you are feeling better. You sound great. Hugs 🌸

Well Betty, this is the coolest idea I've seen in a long time, it's great. I have to go out aftershave and pick up a few things and will be sure to stop by Dollar Tree. Thank you so much for this tutorial. 💗
What did you mean about aftershave?
Crazy spell check
Love this idea!! Thanks for sharing.
Why do you not put a piece of parchment over the wax so your iron does not come directly in contact with the wax?
Love this idea! Never seen it before. Guessing it’d work with the thinner scrapbook papers just the same? Thanks for sharing ❤
I would think that it would, but I honestly don’t know. I guess I need to try it and see.
Cool idea❤ Waiting @ the mailbox
Heading to the post office today. I think you will like what all is in your box!
Lololo !!! You are so funny and so good to your “ family” subbies!!
That us an awsome idea. Have to try that. Wonder if the sheets will still be ok where the weather is hot.
I live in a very hot climate (Florida) and, so far, they are perfect.
This is awesome. Thank you so much for sharing ❣️Debbie B

I wonder if it would work to press the paper between two sheets of wax paper? Will have to try this.
Hmmmmm. That's a thought!
Yes saw it on another site but she used wax from dollar tree, & put it between the 2 pieces of wax paper, then ironed on top. I love all these ladies, I learn so much from all of them 😍

Hi Betty thats a very good idea
That is a great idea! I loved the other way, but could never get it to stop seeping. I have several crafting irons I can use with this technique. So I will try this one because velum if getting expensive for those of us on retirement. LOL.... So does the wax, once it's dry, stiffen the doilies?
They don’t get stiff, but they are more sturdy after the wax. Easier to use!

Only one way to find out - I shall have to try it and see!!
Love it! Yea!! Thank you for sharing this!
I love this technique XX 💖🥰🌈
That is so amazing! I can't wait to try this. 🥰😍
Great idea! Thank you for sharing this.
I’ve been on a faux rice paper kick… nooow to the faux vellum.👍🏻😂
Wait! It’s safe to iron directly on to the wax? It doesn’t destroy the iron?? Wowza!
A cheese grater would be a great tool for making the wax savings.
Betty awesome idea! the result is just beautiful! I have always used oil but now I have to try this. thank you!
Wow! I have got to try this!
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing!
Good morning miss Betty! hope all is well!
Wonder how coffee filters would work
as a child my Mom used bees wax to clean her iron

The wax is completely dry. However, with it being wax, I would be careful of letting the pages get too hot.

I don’t care how they smell, if they get rid of the flies, I can handle it! They are driving me bonkers!!!
Thank you
Can you print on these with archival ink , stamping etc.?? I love the flower print. I had NO idea this could be done. Thanks
You know, I honestly have no clue. I will try it out and let you know.
I still use oil w no problem but this is amazing and oh my word gorgeous..
Oh Betty this is so beautiful!!! What fun and bees wax smells great !! Woah !! Beautiful!! What about napkin ? Too thin ?? Yes indeed 🌷money so tight .
The oil did fine on mine as well. But, I'm thinking it may have something to do with the different climates. I'm going to try napkins soon.
I’m confused. You just put oil on it? Do you still use the iron?
This is awesome. What kind of paper and can you use card stock?
You can also do this with candles and a special iron for waxing!

What weight paper did you print on? I would love to give this a try!
28 lb HP Paper
Wow! Thanks for sharing. Does it matter if your printout is from an ink jet or laser printer?
My printer is an inkjet - I haven't tried it using a laser printer.
I wonder if you can use wax crayons for the same effect?

So far, I haven't noticed any cracking in any of mine - just make sure that you don't do the wax too think on the paper.
Please list the supplies under your address so that we can gather our supplies before watching the video.
Where did you get the papers you used? I guess I'm confused on what you can use this technique on
The papers in this video were just some digitals of mine that I printed onto regular copy paper.
Can you write on the paper after waxing it.
Could you use candle wax and grate it on
You could use a sil-pat mat to do this on and leave the wax on it to dry when done. And then you would be able to use the leftover wax instead of wasting it/ throwing it away. 🤷♀️
Great Idea!!!! I just kept the wax papers. lol. I folded them up and placed them in a folder for the next time.
Would this work on a napkin? Tissue paper?
Wonder about shaving a white candle ?
Can you use dollar tree tall glass candle wax? You know the tall 10" different colored candles in glass?
Oh yes. You definitely can. I think you can use just about any of the wax that you want to.
@@BettysCustomDesigns thank you for replying! 😀

Only one way to find out……. One of us will need to try it. =)
Do you print off the collage papers or do you get them already printed
I just print them on my regular HP printer.
Oh wow, that's amazing so love that,, I will try it , thanks for all your videos ,,, LILLE MARIE
Don’t diss the fly! That’s Fred. He’s visiting from Louisiana. 😆
Fred is now (FINALLY) dead! Ha ha. I ended up having to get some sort of poison stuff and put out for him. =O
What would happen if you took the melted wax from the warmer and spread it over the paper?
I’m not sure. I will give it a try though.
Have you tried crayons?
What kind of paper is that? Is it pre printed?
I printed some of my designs on to vellum.
Chicken s know. They are wicked.😂
