- This video is rare footage from the opening game of the 1988 high school football season between the Tabb Tigers and powerhouse Hampton Crabbers. The video particularly highlights Terry Kirby who was the #1 running back in the nation during his senior year at Tabb. Kirby was playing this season opener on a sprung ankle and still managed to lead the Tigers to victory over much larger Hampton. This highlight reel also includes Kirby’s highlights from the 1989 High School Capital Classic All-Star game. Like many others from the 757 Kirby was a multi sport superstar during his time at Tabb High School in Virginia.
From 1985-1988 Terry Kirby recorded: 7,428 career rushing yards, 104 career TDs, 36x 100+ yard games (26 consecutive) and led the Tigers to a 48-4 record during that span. He also scored 2,246 career points on the basketball court on top of that and was named a HS basketball All-American. List of HS football accolades - USA Today National OPOY (1988), Parade Magazine POY (1988), Gatorade National POY (1988), USA Today All-American (1988), Parade Magazine All-American (1988), 1987 Virginia HS State Champion and various other State and Area honors.
Following his career at Tabb High School he went on to play college football at Virginia from 1989-1992 and would become the school’s All-Time rushing leader with 3,348 yards. He led the ACC in rushing in 1990 and 1992. His Jersey #42 is retired by the school. Following his career at Virginia he would go on to be drafted in the 3rd round of the 1993 NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins. He had a 10 year career with four different NFL teams.
