Crusader Kings 3
Crusader Kings III is a grand strategy role-playing video game set in the Middle Ages, developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive as a sequel to Crusader Kings (2004) and Crusader Kings II (2012). The game was released on PC on 1 September 2020 and on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on 29 March 2022.
Like its predecessors Crusader Kings and Crusader Kings II, Crusader Kings III is a grand strategy game and dynasty simulator set in the Middle Ages. Players begin as a character in either 867 or 1066. The game map is about four times more detailed than the one in Crusader Kings II and slightly larger, incorporating Europe, Africa roughly as far south as the Equator, and Asia as far East as Tibet. Upon the death or deposition of a player's character they may continue to play as that character's heir. Overall, players develop a dynasty over the centuries, with the game ending in 1453.
Dynasties can form cadet branches that have their own heads and act mostly independently from their parent dynasty. The heads of dynasties are able to use a new resource known as Renown to assert their control over their house. For example, the heads of dynasties are responsible for legitimizing bastards.
Characters have full-body, 3D-rendered character models instead of 2D portraits. As in Crusader Kings II, they have traits that affect their stats and behavior. Making choices that go against a character's traits will increase that character's stress. The game's genetics system allows characters to pass on some of their characteristics to their descendants. Characters are able to frighten their vassals into staying loyal by increasing their Dread, which increases when the character performs malevolent actions, such as executing or torturing other characters. Characters are able to select one of five lifestyles to follow. Each lifestyle has three skill trees that allow characters to enhance skills related to that lifestyle.
Players' realms may have the feudal, tribal, or clan government types. Religion and culture are both aspects of the game. Leaders can advance their goals by warfare, diplomacy, or subterfuge. Players may undergo pilgrimages and wage holy wars, and entire religions can be called to arms in crusades or jihads. Religions have Tenets, which are bonuses given to all practitioners of that faith, and Doctrines, which deal with the religion's stances towards issues like homosexuality and female clergy. The principle resource for interacting with religion mechanics is Piety, and a player with sufficient piety may choose to develop their own heresy, with the Tenets and Doctrines being chosen by the player.
All the characters look like they're ripped straight from Asterix and Obelix
Yeah haha 😆
Lagides is the actual family name of the Ptolomeis, it's also represented in Imperator as the surname of Ptolomeic characters. Not an imposter.
Yeah I realise now! Thanks :)
Respect for starting with IR. Also it would be fun if you would play as play as colony with rebellion and all
I will be doing a redux where I take one of the other nations from EU4 onward probably, might do a poll on the community tab so keep a lookout for that :)
Sooo underrated my guy, i mean who doesn't enjoy watching mega campaigns, and especially Imperator Rome gameplay (which is such an amazing game btw)
Thanks man! :)
Man, I just stumbled upon your videos recently, and I can tell you you're one of the most fun creators for PDX games.
You got yourself a sub.
Thanks man I’m glad you enjoyed! 😊
New mega campaign idea:
Start in Imperator with the Invictus mod. Form the Imperium Romanum, stay in Europe.
In CK3, play the Fallen Eagle mod and let the Empire collapse. Try to stop the Islamic invasions. (You'll have to make sure the converter properly converts Hellenic to Christian, or you can do so in Invictus.)
Form the HRE
Epic idea
Yes
@@Red_Zed FOR REAL!? AWESOME!
Yes it’s a good idea, but I won’t be doing another mega campaign until next year most likely
@@Red_Zed Okay. Another cool idea for a regular campaign is to play as a landless adventurer in the After the End mod in CK3. Play as Jeanne d'Arc, be Ursuline and Quebecois, and roleplay a holy order of militant nuns. Then conquer the invading Gothic pagans.
22:12 It could be the Converter mod. If the final government in I:R is a republic, it turns the country capital into a city. But then again, even weirder things could be happening after converting
Yeah true haha thanks man :)
just found your other video (part 1) and you conviced me to sub :). Also planning and playing a mega campaign myself (trying to form Greater Iberia in Imperator in a two player MP mega campaign) and still figuring out a fun nation to do a solo mega campaign with. Anyway, fun video! Cheers!
Awesome thanks man!!
That sounds fun :)
In terms of a recommendation I’d say Bactria would be a fantastic option, Greeks in the East surrounded by foreign faiths and cultures, see if you can survive as a Greek kingdom all the way through :)
great video! i wonder what weird colonies are we gonna see in eu4, imagine an exile colony full of zoroastrian persians in the new world
Thanks man! :)
couple things from 6 minutes in
dont hold more than like 2 over your holding limit, it gives you some crippling debuffs
rulers with an unreformed faith can raid, hellenic was unreformed at the start
for your second ruler Areus III you made him both diligent and paranoid, diligent is one of the best traits in the game but massively decreases stress loss and paranoid is arguably the worst trait in the game and gives you stress over just about anything, thats why he was so bad
at 13:07 you complain that your older son wont inherit the reason is as head of faith only kids of your religion can inherit and your older son was old hellenic
I'll update this as I watch the video with any other tips
Thanks
Super fun to watch 🫶
Can’t wait for the Eu4 part definitely one of my favorite paradox games (even tho I suck at it)
It is my favourite, maybe apart from CK2? Not sure :)
I guess in this timeline Jesus came down to Earth in... Norway?
Yes 😆
We all know it's just Loki
I randomly found this episode of the series and this is one of the most cursed CK3-related things I've ever seen. Also: could you make the save downloadable?
Haha I hope that’s a good thing 😆😅
I can look into it but it may be too big to upload to discord :(
Germania just chilling… “that thing…”
I can't wait to see what your national ideas would be in eu4
I think it just makes them the Greek ones which is a little annoying tbf lol
Zoroastrian, despite common misconception in the West, is not a monotheistic faith. Zoroastrian panteon contains multiple "good" gods called yazatas under "the greatest of the yazatas" (as they called) Ahura Mazda. Good gods opposed by evil gods devas under Angra Mainyu.
Oh cool! I was under the impression they were all dieties of Ahura Mazda (as in one and same god) but obviously I was wrong thank you for the info :)
And there the Jèsus was heard throughout all of Aquitaine and Lotharingia…
Oof, that is daring, to start as the leader of an empire after converting, instead of as a count. Gotta love all the fun chaos it brings O.o
Yeah haha
Make Helenie empire(egypt) or germania into hre becuse it would balance eu4 campain, also it would be great idea to scrabble a Little bit your country(sparta) beascose gamę would be to easy for you
I didn’t make HRE because without Rome it thematically didn’t make much sense however I have let lands go over time to balance the gameplay :)
Can’t wait for eu4. Hope you make the borders look nice and slightly more realistic just for the start. And as u say take land away from you so you don’t steamroll
Yeah man! I will be doing some thematic map changes as I go through :)
@ Awesome! Glad I found ur channel mate, hopefully soon enough this will be your main job :)
Thanks man! Yeah me too but got a bit to go before then lol :)
Lagides is another name for the ptolemaic dynasty, they are not impostors
Yeah thanks :)
Very entertaining
Thanks man! :)
*Scandinavia converts to catholicism*
Me: Gods dammit, Loki
Lorewise I wonder how Catholicism and Ibadi existed when Judais was wiped out by the Greek Empire.
My lore-theory could be that some Jewish diaspora fled Jerusalem and settled in Gaul and Scandinavia and it evolved to be Catholic while some stood by their faith. Years later some travellers got lost travelling in Africa and Carthage and founded Islam in the deserts of the Sahara.
Good idea! I agree :)
Dont forget to do them culture coversions in EU 4.
👌
How did you get the 500ad start date?
Based Greek civilization
Based
How did you start in 500?
Ck3 is such a painful game to play, at least it’s eu4 up next😂
it really isnt he's just terrible at it, we all start somewhere tho
@@qhu3878 he really isn’t terrible mate, it’s just such a confusing game. Unless you play it for days and days until you finally understand every factor of dynasties and relationships you’ll never truly play well- and even then the rng will fuck you harder than a lubed up cactus
Tbf I will say I wasn’t great with the administrative empire stuff because I haven’t played with that, I normally play counts or landless. But I don’t think I’m terrible lol, what can you do to avoid claimant factions on succession apart from murder or disinheriting which I find inherently cheesy 🤷♂️
@@Red_Zed fair enough, tho in early game you made some bad mistakes (way over your domain limit, getting paranoid on 2 consecutive rulers). if you wanna be less cheesy just ally your vassals ot send them gifts, the ai wont join factions if their opinion is over 50
Yeah the domain limit thing was because I was trying to bump stewardship up to match it, but it didn’t work out. Paranoid was in both those characters the best choice I believe as other options were like gluttonous or something, can’t remember but yeah tried to bump intrigue. But yeah it was very punishing.
In terms of the fsctions I was sending gifts to all members constantly (as we had loads of money most of the time) and we had trouble with external allies due to being different religion ;)
You should have added a mod that created Christianity so we could get actual crusades and more interesting religious mechanics.
There was quite a bit of Christianity by the end and a crusade ;)
@@Red_Zed Yeah but it is really weird, random, and nonsensical.
That is the point of a mega campaign, no Rome, no Constantine thus no Christianity in the East
@@Red_Zed Christianity and Islam are just objectively the most content-rich religions in-game. Paganism is all just a similar mush, which is why I dislike imperator for mega-campaigns.
How did you convert to 500ad without all your characters being 500 + years old?
The converter generates successors now.
@ oooooo okay that’s neat I’ve got a old convert might try re convert that
Yeah :)
Why did you not use the Fallen Eagle mod?
I started in imperator Rome
I’ll be really disappointed if he goes into Vic 3 and not Vic 2
I think I will go 3 just because I’ve not played 2 for years so I’d have no idea what to do lol
Unreformed faiths always can raid
Yeah I realise that now, I think it was just the weirdness of the conversion and it being all new with Hellenism lol
Hello
Hoi
hi
Hi
No fallen eagle? :(
No rip
So... Christ didn't get to come for the Jews... He came for the Norse? Well that had to go down interestingly--where's that story?
300 th like
Noice
sorry to say this, but your laugh is a bit annoying
go catholic
