I edited this and since I don't expect you guys to like THIS video or agree with my opinion it's the same as a Carti vid. 7k engagements and I'll release pt.2. I'm one of the biggest drake fans on the planet and I've defended him for years but again the reason my channel is built and the reason I am who I am is because I'm real with myself. Even with days to listen on repeat it's just not giving me that feeling of "I love this music". Remember it's my opinion if you get angry

Drake needs to learn how to cut his albums to 14 tracks or so. Unless it’s a conceptual album then it can be 20 tracks. But a singles artist like Drake should look to keep it concise with hits, some solid deep cuts and try and remove the filler. He overbloats the album so much. Kanye kinda did this with Donda where he should’ve took 4 tracks and the part 2’s, and just put them on a deluxe.
I agree completely, there’s about five tracks I would have not put on here
i think he added a few songs cuz of how many kanye had on donda
It's clear drake cares about the streams, more songs gets his albums more streams
Drake suffers from cash money syndrome considering he was mentored under those lot where they fill things with a lot of quantity and lose quality the more they add. Also they don't really focus on track listing and where songs flow they just drop it in random order. Some of the best albums ever had such detail to track ordering and it's a dying art these days

I agree with Dev when he said “It’s not giving me the feels. I don’t feel sad. I don’t feel toxic.” There’s not one song that gives a Redemption, Jaded, Marvins Room, Doing It Wrong type vibes that’ll make you feeeellll. I needed that and it wasn’t there.

I’m more disappointed in the name of album more than anything. It implies r&b & rap greatness. A fusion of its time and something to have you in your feels. Something for cuffing season. The album content has nothing to do with its title. This album feels really dated and lackluster. Something that would’ve been appropriate for 2015. This is truly the first time ever in drakes whole time as an artist that I feel he’s dropped something truly disappointing and the only time I’ve felt that maybe drake is falling from the top. He no longer takes risk and everything sounds the same.
Couldn’t agree more, great take.

WAITING FOR THIS
I feel like this album suffers from OVER marketing. Back in January, he released a trailer that showcased recreations of all of his previous albums. In interviews, he directly compared this album to one of his iconic albums, thus elevating fans expectations and excitement. Since its coming off the heels of its release and because of their beef, CLB will undoubtedly be compared to DONDA. And while I love some songs off this album (TSU, Fair Trade, No Friends in the Industry, Champagne Poetry, 7am in Bridle, N 2 Deep, Yebba Heartbreak, Get Along Better) none really hit the highs of songs like Come to Life, No Child Left Behind, Hurricane, Moon, 24, or even Off the Grid. This is a Drake album and that is a compliment and a criticism for me. For some reason, he refuses to leave his comfort zone. He will never make a "bad" album but the level of risk that he takes is not substantial in evolving his sound.
Adding onto my initial comparison and contrast from the previous paragraph, one of the things I noticed while digesting this album is that although the artistic direction intended in both Donda and CLB were two dimensional, Kanye did a great job of making every song sound relatively different while still bringing you back to that same direction or central theme whereas with CLB it's so all-over the place and sporadic that I often forgot what the central theme of the album was. In regards to features, Kanye was able to place and let the features shine without letting them carry; there were quite a number of tracks in which the features outshined/carried Drake to the finish line; that can be seen as a negative critique.
In the end, I postulate that Drake could have made this an EP instead of an LP and kept 6/7 of the strongest songs on it and binned the rest. After the reception of the EP, he could have followed up with a more cohesive album. CLB had no real concept here for a 21-song album. For an album called "Certified Lover Boy", this album could have been a strong R&B album that could have evolved the genre of R&B. My thoughts after a few full listens from start to finish, im giving CLB a 6 to 6.5/10 (for comparison I gave DONDA a 9/10 or 8.5/10 as a low-ball)
P.S- I enjoyed scorpion more than CLB from initial release and off reruns so maybe im just wack. ✍️
Well articulated, I agree for the most part as well
@@bujnnxblnk thank you! What did you disagree with?
I totally agree with you and this is a well written review I guess you could say the only part I disagreed with is that I thought scorpion was worse than CLB on initial release and donda was a solid 8/10 for me and CLB was a good 6/10
@@brando3424 the only thing i would say is that drake definitely made it seem like a love album, at least that’s what i felt about it. there were definitely a few tracks that were off that topic but other than that i agree with you

I think the reason why people are hating on this album is because they compare it to Kanye’s album also because of the hype that the PEOPLE created for this album. When you put all that bs aside & just listen to the damn music. It’s good, production was amazing, drake did well
@@painnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn I’m wit u but drake had his team hyping it up too and they said his pen game improved a ton. And he made the people wait an extra year so it’s really only right to expect something amazing or near it. Assademiks hyped it up big time too
@@painnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn that’s what I’m saying people gotta just give the album a listen .
@@painnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Even if you don’t compare it, it’s still a disappointing and mid album, definitely not trash like people are saying but I only got 4-6 tracks added to my playlist on a 21 track album. So that means 75% of the album is forgettable and lackluster.
As someone who has enjoyed both Kanye and Drake as artists and musicians, this album did not, I feel, capture the aesthetic or essence of how he built up this album besides the exceptions of about maybe 4 to 6 tracks. Kanye on Donda captured an experience, from loss and feeling absolute separation from god to the joys of being guided/protected by a higher power. Appreciating the time he had with his mother and reflecting on what was instilled in him by her. The duality of both feeling at odds and alone, clashing with the comfort of faith and knowing what’s best is yet to come. Every track was felt and cohesive to what was trying to be expressed. With CLB we don’t get those aspects. No insight into drakes unexpected fatherhood to Adonis, or how his life as a “lover boy” clashes with his status or his psyche whilst being such a prestigious figure. This album and lover boy emphasis just felt like window dressing as opposed to what could of been a personable and reflective celebration of ones authenticity and being true to yourself always. He has always been someone that stood out from the majority. This could of been emotional tellings of how modern society’s constant narrative of upholding a certain image due to certain things and expectations are quite toxic and that you shouldn’t. How being your true self is what makes up who you are. Which is why and how drake got famous in the first place, by being relatable and going into a lane unthinkable for most which was emphasis on emotional singing as well as meaningful and competitive bars. But that isn’t what we go sadly. Overall this album could of been so much more, but to whomever enjoys the album please do so. But at least also acknowledge the fact that this project is not in any way shape or form profound or to the level it could of reached.
I can tell by this comment you would be a phenomenal professional music reviewer.

Now is the time for the Meamda podcast
Everybody’s opinion will change and it will go down as his best album and this is why. At first listen I thought the album was amazing and maybe a couple skips, but this is a special project and once you realize what he went for snd relisten afterwords you’ll see why this is an album for the true fans. If you go back to the trailer for CLB he put out (the CLB Jan 2021) he filmed himself remaking every single one of his album covers, also him and 40(his producer) said they wanted to give us all of drake in one album as in every era of drake. So he is paying homage to himself and literally giving us every era snd version of drake from his fist album to his latest and after my 10th listen (every listen the album gets better which is crazy) I fully understand what he was trying to do and he did, he delivered exactly what he said he was going to and he did it for the true fans, making this a literal masterpiece and a 10/10. So If you come on here saying “oh I’ve heard this before it’s nothing new” no shit he was literally giving us every era of himself and it’s perfect: idk wtf you clowns were thinking🤡 like you expecting drake to all of a sudden drop a country album? Lmaoo. Also any of you lame ass dudes that try to say Donda > CLB are you mentally not all there? Y’all were mad hype saying Kanye just broke the records and has the best numbers of 2021!!! One of my favorite tracks on the album is TSU aka "Not Around". I do wish Hit Wxnder was on this version of "Not Around". For those wondering what I'm talking about back in 2020 around March or so there was a version of "Not Around" that leaked. That version has Hit Wxnder on it as a feature I love it and prefer it MORE over the album version TSU. The "Not Around" version ft Hit Wxnder is somewhat the same as the album version TSU. The only difference is that it's just the "Not Around" track. So there's no intro part or beat switch up part at the end. And of course Hit Wxnder is a feature. But other than those few differences that track is pretty much the same as the album version. Hit Wxnder and Drake are 2 of my favorite artist and that fact that they were on a track together is amazing to see and hear. Even though that version of "Not Around" ft Hit Wxnder didn't make the album or get official released. It's still amazing that he was featured on a track with Drake. If any of you guys haven't heard that version I highly highly highly recommend you go check it out.

Nothing in here felt like "Holy Shit, this is some of Drakes best work!", There's no character development, where as with Donda you can tell Kanye has been changing and some of the songs on Donda shoot straight to the top 10 Kanye songs list. Not really anything Imma go back to here
I like the album but let's be honest the ceiling for drake wasn't high since everything from 2016 to now been Dog shit(Views) to mid(Scorpion).
Yo what you smoking, I know you ain't call Views Dogshit with a right mind 🤣.
@@SPREET5454 😂😂😂
Crazy cause I heard the whole album all the way through too, by the end I had like the 1 - 3, saved on my apple library , intro, 7am on bridle path.. & fair trade
That being said I don’t think it was a baaad album, it’s just not “goat” level . u kno?
I think the albums a grower 100%
N 2 Deep is the best song on the album for sure
I'm scared that I'm becoming an old person that doesn't like new music anymore because between Donda and CLB (both from 2 of my all-time favorite artists) I liked a combined 2 songs and every time I listen to music now I'm mostly just listening to peoples older work and classics rather than any new music
I was just like this on my first listen and was disappointed but some songs did grow on me
😆 did Meami get suspended on Twitter from this? I wanted to see his tweets but can’t
Judging by the template he don’t like the album lol
Who did tho ? Except teens and blondes
Template?
@@zakariachaaraoui3869 could say the same about Ye & his edgy, insecure teen fans
@@DuragJones lol you sound slow ye been mak8ng music since 2003 for soul and sample lovers since 2016 his music was about god and religion and family do you think a 14 15 yo gonna be interested in shit like this , drake music based and teen subjects just read the album title "certified lover boy" that was my Facebook name when i was in middle school
The second half of the album saves it for me. I really believe that this album is better than scorpion especially after a first listen. It’s just going to take a few listens to really enjoy the album just like scorpion. At the end of the day it’s Drake and he can’t release album that just focuses on one style anymore. He is too versatile to do that.
Exactly They sleep on race my mind I swear it gives me a feel no ways vibe mixed wit 5 am in Toronto
I mean scorpion was trash so that doesn't really mean much.
@@pradayou5405 Scorpion wasn’t the best album but it was far from trash
@@FromSoftwareStan it was mid 25 song track list with little no substance. Scorpion was just a bunch of throwaways that Drake just randomly picked, No memorable songs and it felt like drake didn't really put his heart into that album. Production was prosaic as well which is unacceptable coming from an artist like drake. Drake has just been playing it safe and not pushing over the boundaries the past couple of years
@@pradayou5405 It’s kind of hard to break boundaries when your an artist like Drake. What more can he offer that’s different musically and artistically? This album is a showcase and a culmination of his career. It’s suppose to pay homage to his previous work like Take Care, Nothing Was The Same, So Far Gone, etc. I agree that certified lover boy doesn’t offer much new and it’s not groundbreaking but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad album there are plenty of great tracks from this album that I will continue to come back and listen too just like scorpion there is substance there you just have to find it and listen too it. You can’t just listen to the album once and completely digest what you just heard. The album has been out for 3 days give it some time to marinate and I promise you’ll like it better if not then his current stuff may not just be for you and that’s okay artist change and grow throughout their careers. Their are plenty of improvements on this album over his previous outing and as long as he continues to improve I think we will get another “classic” album before he retires.
Give it a month they’ll all grow onto you bro.
Dev i watched the whole stream and the best part is when you play LOTTA 42 OG 😂
I feel like this was a half assed album with throwaways in there, loved that song with yebba and the one with tem
Idk these songs are gonna grow into people
@@MrMlbfan6 I think so too
@@MrMlbfan6 a couple of em will but some of them just not hittin
Man couldnt even get to pipe down, istg that was the best track on there
It’s actually very boring. I can’t even listen to it
@@fiasypiage952 what
@@clipsstoday It sounds all the same, boring and uninspired.
@@fiasypiage952 pipe down is amazing
All drake's songs sound the same dog he's just talking on them lol
It was so depressing on stream to watch devs face as all of us collectively realized need me wasn’t on lotta 42
I have come to realize that the music he created on NWTS or TC will not be heard again throughout an entire album. You'll get a few songs here and there on his recent albums. I also think listening to the leaks can ruin how someone views the album. I didn't listen to any leaks and I enjoyed the album more than some people who listened to the leaks as if they were an actual album and expected all of those songs to be on the album.
I loved this album for what it is, you can’t really look too deep into it. Can’t compare it to any of drakes classics obviously but I enjoyed it a lot and that’s really all that matters to me. I think it’ll be a grower too for a lot of people
It’s gonna grow, all these kids are just on the hate bandwagon bc of Kanye
I felt the exact way as this man reviewing this album 😩
Neeeeed that pt 2
MEAMI IS THE REACT GOAT LEGENDDDD
