Spotted several good cats in this episode
I love how this show includes the cats.
They are so mellow, too, like a bunch of strangers (with a camera crew) walking around their home is just another day in the good life.
@@dsr8223 exactly!
@@drunkvegangal8089 squidgy!
Mine would be running away to hide!!
The English Riviera: my old stomping ground. Unfortunately lost all family property in the area and now I and my siblings will never be able to afford to live there. But I dream about it! And I can still hear the sound of the waves and the seagulls, the whistle of the steam train and cries of people on the beach while sunbathing in our back garden. Utter bliss.
When I heard the city all I could think of was Fawlty Towers and how Basil was based on a real man, and his daughter said John Cleese was dead on in his portrayal.
What a lovely area to live in.
The younger couple's dogs were absolutely splendid.
I noticed them too. Lurchers? Rescue dogs?
Love Kirsties lipstick. Her skin and hair color are glorious….
Was just noticing the same thing: really rich and vibrant. Her style, clothes, and colouring are all beautiful.
I'm inspired by the way that Kirstie is beautiful and stylish, without being skinny!
She has a beautiful individual style😍
So enjoy this series, and all the cats!!
My favorite show love you both great team.
On the one hand, it's touching that Jeff grew up in a council house and is so grateful and thrilled by the possibility of living in a big, gracious home where he can house his entire family and host friends. Clearly, he dreams of being able to open a home that he's proud of and share it with people he loves. On the other hand, his inability - or fear? - when it comes to imagining making improvements shows you how a lack of possibilities in childhood can restrict a person in later life. Also, the sense that 'new' means 'good' - probably because of not having much new when he was growing up. He can imagine living 'how the other half lives,' but he can't imagine having the tools to create such a lifestyle (or inherit it), only to buy it ready-made, brand-new, out of the box - a sign that 'I can afford it'.
I think that's a bit of a stretch. It's more to do with the individual that any accepted generalisation.
What a wonderful place to live for both these lovely couples. Please revisit.
They did, lol. They visited both couples in 2012. They revisited Sam and Jamie again five years later.
I love this show, but I do wish the camera person would spend a bit more time on all the rooms in the house. So often, we only get a glimpse of a room, or no glimpse at all.
Just pause when they do show the rooms 😆
True
Both bought then un-bought houses were lovely, especially the big yellow house and its fabulous details.
Astonishing that people in the UK could do as these buyers did. This would never, ever be allowed in Canada.
Love the tiny red kitchen
With Jamie and Sam, I would be tempted to sell the rest of the land, thereby increasing the budget for the new house. Make sure the new house has the equestrian facilities needed all on one plot.
Monetising is not always wise, certainly if money is not needed right away
It sure makes sense to get a house with property that can also accommodate your horses. Traveling to them twice a day forever at a minimum gets old and what if they get sick and need around the clock care? Camp out in your field next to a house you already owned but no longer do?
I love this show. Kirstie and Phil are naturals and work beautifully together!
Confused. Sam and Jamie sold Jamie's parents' house, but kept the land and want to be near that land. Why not keep the house and live in it (siblings' claim?) or simply build their own place on the land they kept?
As I understand it, it was a farm that was sold - that's a LOT for a young couple to undertake.
I’m not sure what happened, but if I were them I’d do the same. I’d sell the house and keep the land. Because they didn’t want to live in the house, and that would be lots of work to maintain it. They also need the cash to live by the sea.
The UK has very strict rules about what land can be built on. Agricultural land must usually stay as agricultural land.
2:45 They kept a small part of the farm for themselves. Not all the land. Just enough for the horses.
Jamie is an only child
I don't know what was wrong with that kitchen! It was charming and a good size.
🤦♀️
I agree! I wouldn't have changed a thing!
Love ur programme guys mused to watch on tv. Now I’m on iPhone. Kirsty have u a sister in Canada selling houses
All best for 2023🎉
Yes, she does: Sophie Allsopp.
Love this show
I wonder why the young couple didn't just keep the farm. Also, in the US, if you put in an offer, you need to put down some money that you can lose if you back out of the agreed upon deal. It's so weird to hear of all these people, buyers and sellers, who "have a change of heart" weeks and weeks later.
You put down a deposit that you can back out of if the survey brings up problems, only after this, when the 'exchange' of contracts is done are you committed - it means either party can gazump the offer and it makes the whole 'chain' of purchasing in UK a total horror show.
My guess is that they could not afford to pay the inheritance tax and keep the farm.
@@NellsTravelKitchen That sucks!
Same in BC, Canada.
@@tonirose6776 There is no inheritance tax in Canada.
I know crying is generally frowned upon by the commenters of this channel but seriously imagine the stress this couple was dealing with right before their house search. I would have a nervous breakdown.
I think you're a bit wet, Kevin.
@@resnonverba137 Just because I said I would have a nervous breakdown if both of my parents died? You wouldn't be a mess if your entire family died? Really? Wow. You're heartless.
@@thehungrygoldfish See previous.
@@resnonverba137 Again, you wouldn't give a damn if your entire family died, like really? Like I don't understand people like you.
@@thehungrygoldfish An extremist as well as a drip, you are doing well. There is a huge range between a nervous breakdown and not giving a damn, as you put it, don't you think? I do hope you won't need therapy after someone had the audacity to call you a drip on RUclips but, with your performance so far, I wouldn't bet against it.
Loved this video but wish they would have got one of them
For both couples, I preferred the 1st houses they saw.
In my country, only offers in writing are acceptable, with a non-refundable deposit if the buyer reneges.
Phil and Kirsty continue to be brilliant!
I loved the Victorian views!
I wonder if the UK has cracked down on the buyers' ability to pull out of a deal once they verbally committed to a purchase? Can anyone share any insights? Simply couldn't happen in the US short of a bad inspection report.
Nope, still the same nightmare it's always been - gazumping
It’s always shocking to me when you hear these stories. It must make home buying especially nerve wracking if you think things can change on a whim.
This is not allowed in South Africa either.
@@hazelmarie238 Nor in Canada. Sellers are not allowed to change their minds either. I know of two sellers who wanted to do that and it didn't work
Every time I hear a negative remark about something ridiculous regarding a house I automatically think they’re going to backpedal on the deal. 🙄
Loved the bungalow
That is Torquay, Madam.
May I ask what you were expecting to see ... ?
Sidney Opera House, perhaps,
The hanging gardens of Babylon,
Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically ... ?
Yes
Jamie is so sweet but also rather battered by Sam.
Wow both set of buyers couldn't make up their mind and both backed out of agreed price. Not fair to seller. 😮
That happens here in the US as well, however you have 7 days or you lose your Ernest money. Or if the inspector finds major issues with the house you can back out. We do sign a contract when we place the offer so it goes into pending status. So the seller can’t take a offer for a higher price like I have seen on here which is heartbreaking to me
When I hear Torquay, I think of Basil Fawlty
How are buyers allowed to just change their minds? Do they lose their deposit? Real estate in Canada is very different. Once you sign you’re on the hook. You can lose your deposit or get sued.
In the UK, anyone, anywhere in the property chain can change their mind at any time with no legal consequences - up until the point where you exchange contracts and you become legally obliged to complete the transaction. The gap between having an offer accepted and exchanging contracts can often be months, leaving a lot of time for people to change minds or things to go wrong! You might lose estate agent fees or solicitors fees, but no one can sue you for changing your mind before contracts are exchanged. If you change your mind after exchange, then yes, someone down the line is going to lose a lot of money 😂
When i hear Torquay, I think “Agatha Christie”!
I'm relieved that Jamie didn't settle for the house that his mother would have liked.
I think the older couple's wife got upset cause she was wrong about the third house being old then just became stubborn and throwing tantrums, pretty immature behaviour.
Each of these women should go out and buy their own houses...
Well that was a damp squib.
Lovely cats and dogs as well. And the young woman has the most glorious hair - imagine he almost passed her by.
They can't build a house on their land?
I wondered that.
Based on a comment above, the UK has strict rules about building on agricultural land.
@@nancyn347 If that were the reason, it would have been useful for it to have been mentioned.
Torquay to Cornwall an hour and a half??? 48 minutes by car to Saltash Cornwall..,
Jamie had a beautiful arab horse.
Would love to see equestrian properties for sale.
Hmmm, i wonder if he wants his mum in law to live them......
The problem is a matter of class between Sharon and Jeff. Jeff is a chav new money so everything must be brand new and grand for him to appreciate it.
The problem is Sharon is a baby. Working class doesn't make you a chav. He has far better taste than her.
What is wrong with Sharon? Very spoiled acting.
Sometimes I think what these couples really want is a divorce. They seem to like totally different things.
Um what? Just because a couple has different tastes doesn’t mean they should break up. That’s ridiculous! lol “Sorry hon. Bob thinks we should divorce because I like traditional and you like modern. Hey is your sister available?” God wtf lol
@@thehungrygoldfish I was being facetious. My sense of humor is often misunderstood.
Leave mother in law alone. Make your own money lady
..then you can make the decision.lol
It’s her mom, not mother in law.
Jeff has such crummy taste.
That’s not fair, some people just don’t have the imagination 🤔
Sharon needs her own money...she expected her husband ti support her and her mom. Boo hoo!
Yeah, I didn't hear any suggestion that Sharon or her mother were going to contribute to the house purchase or renovation cost. Hmmm.
Early in the program they specifically stated the mother is adding money so that they can afford a larger house
@@rlace356 Right, that was stated at the very beginning.
@@rlace356 I missed that. Thanks.
ok ok. wtf. Sharon needs her OWN money? lol lol lol
Buy the mom another house far away!
Too weird
