Fun fact: according to a podcast interview of Thomas Grip, creative director of the game, the vertical slice version had two endings one of which had Simon deciding to become « human » again by being a « Flesher », the beta version with the diving suit.
I would kill for a mod that tries to riccaree the older version of soma but use the voice lines and models and assets from the current version to fill in the blanks
This is ok but I like the real Soma a lot more. Especially the beginning always gets me. For a first time player it really feels like being teleported into the future of some kind. But it actually is the one of many reincarnation's of your brain scan which already happened in the past. I am not sure anymore who activated your brain copy in that robot tho. Was it the Wau? Ross? Either way I am such a sucker for these ominious beginnings where you don't know what the fuck is going on. While Catharine and all that is there know better..
Played the game in 2019 then again in 2020 and now in 2022 It's a really good game and It's one of the best sci-fi horror games I've ever played. Although I would like to see a SOMA 2 where you can choose someone who worked at PATHOS-II and see their perspective before everything went to hell. I know It's a lot to ask and the fact that we already know what happened to them. But still it would be cool to be someone at Theta when Akers and the proxies attacked. I'm not done yet it would also be cool to mess with the timeline of SOMA where Simon wakes up for example December 25th. I'm not saying it has to be the 25th it's only that's the date the ARK team leaves Theta and arrives at Omicron. Then he'd do everything he normally does but he'd get to Delta meet Akers and then go to Theta. People wouldn't treat Simon as human but since the ARK team is going to fail on launching the ARK he's gonna have to go right behind them. The people are shocked there's a brain scan of Catherine in his omnitool since she had left on the same day. I know the story wouldn't be as interesting but everyone in the abyss would still be dead well almost everyone. This isn't exactly what I mean I can't really put it in a better perspective right now. Also another thing I'd want in a SOMA 2 which is probably never going to happen. Would be to explore the ARK, I know the concept of exploring the ARK might sound boring but, it would be cool to like interact with everyone well almost everyone from PATHOS and learn their backstories. Also you'd be able to do stuff like go to the market, go into stores, explore you're new home, and more. Since we rarely meet and alive people except for brain scans there's basically no one that we've actually met.
It was probably the guy who dies in the room where you get the omnitool. Maybe he was trapped and activated you hoping you'd open the lock on the door?
@@n646nMhhh yeah that could be :D Man this game still haunt me to this day (in a good way) I am trying to forget the game so I can experience it again someday.
While the original ideas with the different factions were cool and all I like how the game turned out more. Not having any actual antagonists or sides to pick hammers the feeling of dread and helplessness home for me.
the K8 actually talks! and we "use" held items outside of the scanner fluid. cath has a different voice... simon talks less. so interesting... and so interesting how many things were kept similar, like the structure of some environments, though they look completely different.
This stuff looks really cool, but it feels more psychological in its horror in a way that doesn’t mesh well with the final product. The final game worked because of how grounded and mundane its setting was, dramatically amplifying the existential horror.
I like the atmosphere. It feels even more oppressive than what we got in the final game. What's the idea behind recreating the scanner room in the future?
I think it's a bleed-over of his real consciousness and the new robot one. The two conscious streams mesh into a dreamlike or coma state - not really fully awake in either one. Then when he gets into the tunnels, the new consciousness takes over.
@@TheCivildecay I guess I didn't frame it properly. I meant the assets, the visuals and such, mostly. I mean the story is kinda interesting to me...I hated the way the protag in base game came out
Meh. Interesting rough ideas of the final version but I’m glad they didn’t go with the “lots of robot baddies wandering around” idea. The WAU being sentient is a nice twist tho…
This video file is packaged in the "supersecret" zip file you can find in the SOMA installation folder. It's not me playing the game - the SOMA developers recorded this earlier version of the game themselves.
When Simon walks out of the compartment where he found Catherine, he walks into a trap or is somehow electronically disabled by the Fleshers (guys in diving suits), who have been cutting the door open with a welding torch. Before they can grab him, though, something descends through the hole in the ceiling. It's described as "a betentacled worm-like creature." I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's the centipede-like monster that Simon encounters near the end of SOMA, and I think it's about to stop/kill the Fleshers. There's more info on these scenes in the text documents packaged in the supersecret.rar file where this vertical slice video is from as well. I cover this in more detail in my "Data Recovery" video: ruclips.net/video/yh_tgh-KkAg/видео.html (It sucks that RUclips removed annotations, they explained some of this)

the wau looking way more like an h. r. giger creation is a neat idea but i think the final product makes more sense
I like the way the final version was more like a persistent presence, not an interactive entity you could reason with.
So glad to see some early release of this game. Gives an idea how this great game has evolved to be great.

The cultist dialog sorta makes this game feel more at home with Lovecraft in a way.
This does seem like it would of been a interesting game though ^^
I'm glad they changed Cathrine's voice actress, honestly.
Thank you for uploading this. ❤
4:05 This has strong Alchemilla vibe from SH1.
really wish this was playabe
at least the chase music and models are in the game so maybe someone could recreate this

oh, man i used to watch your lets plays of dark earth allot ... now i finaly found you channel back. So love your videos man!! (+1 sub)
Cool! Nice to hear from you!
haha, but for real from that point on i loved your channel ... man, how you commentate is just awesome ;p
I'm getting more Penumbra vibes from this than from the actually game.
Same.
Whoaaa that used to be quite different

is there any way to know why did they ditch all these things?
probably because it was bit cheesy
Late reply, but they probably got a writer with a better idea

Is Simon's voice actor different or did they just give him totally different voice direction for the final game?
Same voice actor, Very different voice direction.

Oh, I'll try to find
I did a separate video about the supersecret file (how to open it, what's in it) that you could check out: ruclips.net/video/yh_tgh-KkAg/видео.html
okay
can you explain the ending?

@@davidspackagelp why the version is so short?i thought it will be long as SOMA
@@davidspackagelp which is the “Leviathan “
The real SOMA is so much worse. We don't get to date Munshi.
I think I need to go see a therapist, Because when I soma 2013 Content, I almost go into a panic attack
Oh boy am i glad they changed the story to what it it is today. This sucked ass.
Soma really got way better than this build.
What how
Why do I think they should have kept this actress to play Catherine instead of Nell Mooney
Edman25 They originally wanted Catherine to have a British accident but ultimately that didn’t come in fruition
I much prefer the one we got to be fair, I cant imagine this girl getting angry like cath at the end of the game
