Very interesting. I celebrate the Winter Solstice which was Saturday. I hope everyone who celebrates or observes in any way ( religious or secular) has a happy and peaceful day.
As a member of the Baha'i Faith who comes from a Jewish background I appreciate the comments of both presenters. I am especially interested in interfaith activities. And as they both said we need more faith and love in this ever darkening world.
Bahai is not from a Jewish background. It's a branch of Islam that came from Iran. Even the creator name is Baha eddine. Pure muslim name. Read your history, or you are giving false information for a reason.
I don't think they're different at all. Christmas is celebrating the birth of Christ, returning God's light to the world. And Hanukkah the miracle of oil lasting 8 days, when there was only enough for 1 day. Both are return of light in the darkness! Hanukkah is showing us we have a God who loves us as the Bible and Torah both teach us. Christmas is the culmination of prophesy. I do realize that many of the Hebrew faith don't believe Christ is the messiah. Yet if you look, the Torah is the old testament. And Christ's birth, though I've heard that historically was actually in July, is the beginning of the new testament. One follows the other, they are not contrary to each other. As a world of imperfect humans, we need to cut each other some space. We All need to get back to dad, whatever faith you use to get there. The means isn't as important as the end game. All saved, All One. Then Dad can really show us something! Want to see miracles? Be one! Happy Holidays to all. May Peace be in your heart.
America, more than any other country should understand the futility of fighting over religion! We have watched religious wars around the world for the past two centuries! It never has a good outcome for the truely spiritual people! We don't need those kinds of conflicts in America
@CaptainDarrick Yeah, just like for sports hooligans or favourite gaming platform fanboys, this is just an excuse for tribalism. Studies (and life!) have repeatedly shown that even groups assembled in a totally random way show tribalistic behaviours. Strong identity component like religious belief just exacerbates the primal instinct that is already there.
You don’t have to be Christian to celebrate Christmas. A lot of people who aren’t Christian, decorate their house and have a Christmas tree. The holiday has lost some of its religious meaning over the years. I’m not really religious, but I do enjoy Christmas.
Nowhere in the Christian Bible does it specifically tell us when Jesus was born or to even celebrate His Birth.... Lying to kids about Santa and Christmas trees have nothing to do with Jesus.
When Jesus was celebrating Hanukah in John 8, He identifies Himself as the light of the world, that is, the fulfillment of the festival of lights that was inaugurated by the Maccabees. So, it is fitting that they fall around the same time of year, the festival of lights that prefigures the light of the world occurs when we celebrate that the light of the world first entered incarnate into this world.
YHWH In Hebrew, God's name literally means: Behold the Hand Behold the Nail This is obviously a reference to the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ who was nailed to the cross. By the shedding of his blood he made atonement for our sins. By his stripes, we are healed. He is Jeshua HaMashiach. Link here:👇 ruclips.net/video/YjE6QajUfjI/видео.htmlsi=kIqeiwy_rJrfUMsg

What a wonderful news story, CBS on Christmas and Hanukkah falling on the same day. The Christmas I spent in the Middle East had all three major feasts on the same day which included Islams. It happens once every 1,000 years.
OMG…if you actually study the BIBLE, you KNOW that Christ was born in the spring. Christmas is nothing more than Christianity’s conversion of the pagan celebration of Saturnalia. Hanukkah is far more valid as a religious celebration. Nice that the march of time caused the eventual, INEVITABLE occurrence of the holy days converging.
That’s incorrect. The Gregorian Calendar is solar (follows the rotation of the earth around the sun), places the birth of Christ as its start point, and through the addition of a leap year, replaced the error-filled Julian Calendar. The opposite of arbitrary.
@ many ancient civilizations utilized the equinoxes as their new year (equal day equal night, for the entire world). Not to mention, the spring equinox is spring, a time of renewal. That’s the real new year. And our months should follow our lunar cycles, but it doesn’t. The birth of Christ was December 25 (we think…)…but instead, we start our new year on January 1st (no meaning what so ever). Arbitrary to the max.
Christmas, Hanukkah, Pagan Yule and even Divali (Hindu festival which usually happens in November) all have a general theme: light. Shorter days eventually giving way to longer ones, Jesus, the Light of the World being born, the Temple Oil lasting longer than expected, Rama returning to his kingdom. Light giving hope for better times ahead. And all happening roughly around the same time! Isn’t that what all of us really want- better times- an end to war, crime, broken relationships, misfortunes, illness, injustice, etc.? We all look to that light, In however way we interpret it, as the catalyst for hope for a better future! Let’s continue with that hope! Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, A Good Yule, (a belated) Happy Divali!
If Hanukkah begins at sundown on Christmas then technically the first day of Hanukkah is on the 26th, not the 25th (since in the Jewish calendar days begin at sundown rather than midnight). Actual Christmukkah will occur in 2027, not this year. If you don't insist on the first day of Hanukkah falling on the first day of Christmas, but allow any of the days of either holiday to coincide, then overlap is going to be significantly more common, and will include this year, for which two turtle doves will be an appropriate gift for the first day of Hanukkah 😂

The pastor of the church I was going to kept saying there was 400 years of silence between Malachi and Christ, sometimes I wonder if they've just overlooked Hanukkah for some reason just because it's not in the Jewish bible or Protestant old testament? Those years were anything but silent and the jews prevailing over the Seleucid empire was far from insignificant. The church should do a better job of teaching about this period rather than dismissing it as irrelevant. Frankly if you're jewish it's rather offense when they teach that God was silent and there was no prophecy or miraculous action of God during this time when that couldn't be further from the truth. Also, Jesus himself attended the festival of lights in the gospels that was celebrated in the temple at Jeruselum. It's in the books of I and II Macabees which are part of the Apocrypha and in the Catholic and Orthodox old testament and where written by Jewish people but not incuded in the canon of scripture, but still holds some spiritual significance among Jews and Christians.
