It is a prop and that is why OP needs it. It props OP up.
Having played with the English language, I walk with a cane and I don’t need it for every step. My problem is that either/both knees can fail without any warning, an ankle can fail without any warning and a hernia repair can drop me, again without any warning. Even though I can tap dance much of the time, I can’t depend on my body.
I have next to no sympathy for the bruises that Karen collected.
