Yo Harris, I love a quick sunday morning HP video to start the day, seems i missed this one until now. I had ordered 3 Feet from Pie N Vinyl in Pompey but then i got an email saying there was a delay, perhaps only with the coloured versions, not sure, but i think demand went through the roof after news of Trugoy. No worries. I can wait. I know how to wait. And when that telly comes out the other end....your nicked!! A nice little order from Discogs arrived this week, Chic's Risque and C'est Chic along with Elvis Costello's country Blue album, all Mexican pressings, very cheap, Chic especially sounds amazing. Went on a bit of an online shopping spree there a while back, prompted by a fairly "harmless" comment you made on an earlier video Harris ... something about men of a certain age and Smiths 12" singles! Anyway bought eight of those suckers over a period of about three days. So happy to have them. Beautiful things. Morrissey really knew what he was about when it came to the aesthetics of the sleeves, labels etc.
Anyway Boy With the Thorn in his side is fantastic and the two B Side are great, and the way they run into each other as intended is perfect for sure. Some of the B Sides took me unawares as they're not the versions on Hatfull of Hollow. Old House is really nice with the full band, but when they are different the Hatfull versions are better for the most part.
In summary ... the 12"s are fantastic.

Excellent, man, loved this episode. Apologies in advance for this potentially annoying geek out: 3 Feet High--along with a lot of albums from this era--was cut DMM, which allows for vastly longer side length, as the groove is being cut into hard copper, which can physically support tighter spacing than a (non-DMM) soft lacquer disc. I tend to think that if it doesn't sound great, it's for some reason other than side length (e.g. too much compression, etc.). Non-DMM cuts absolutely can suffer from excessive side length and benefit greatly from wide spacing, hence the great sound of 12" 45s. On the other hand, longer side length means more time spent on the inner grooves, so the last few tracks on each side are 33rpm at a very small diameter and with the cartridge at a less advantageous angle, so there's that. Anyway, just my two cents on the matter. (Do Brits say "...just my tuppence..."???) And I don't even have the album, so perhaps time for me to stfu 😜 Anyway, I've been focusing on trying to score De La Soul 12 inches, partially because that original 3 Feet High is so expensive, but also, like you say, because of the B sides and their huge sound.

Hey man.Ok that’s interesting! I remember when I bought this, & me & my mates (who would never have considered pressing quality back in 89) all said ‘Ok this thing sounds awful’ you really had to crank it! The De La 12” are fairly easy to find over here, but I’ve always been cautious as I’m never sure if they are going to have some awful remix (English hip hop singles would often have some appalling flavour of the week producer hacking away at the track) The worst example of a single disk album has to be Public Enemy’s ‘Fear Of A Black Planet’ absolutely dreadful..Paul’s Boutique is on the borderline too, I think that got reissued as a double. It always seems to be the bass that suffers most. Cheers mate, interesting stuff!

Hi ho Harris. Going back about ten or eleven years in the VC there was a thing that some of the people were pointing out. They were saying that certain coincidences were happening with fellow members and certain albums. There was also VC synchronicity going around. Now I may sound like a complete nutcase right now by telling you this. But here goes. Out of all of the albums that have come out in the past fifty years. What are the odds that the album I just ordered fifteen minutes ago is the one that you are holding in your avatar for this video? Crazy. I actually pre-ordered a copy of the new '3 Feet High..' The colored blue version. I thought the blue looked the nicest out of the five or six that they are releasing. >< I do have most of the UK Smiths 12 and 7". I am more complete with all of the Moz releases. I actually grabbed a 12" Australian pressing of 'Ask' {Morrissey on cover with the kid eating the ice cream} for $15 on eBay. The seller did not know that it was the Aussie version. So that was a nice find. He is reissuing 'Southpaw G', 'Quarry', 'Maladjusted' and 'Ringleaders' sometime this year. Supposedly after the new album {or albums} are released. Miley Cyrus wanted her song off of his new album Bonfire of Teenagers. It does not look like its going to be released anytime soon because Capitol broke their contract with Morrissey. But he has another new album done called 'Without Music The World Dies'. The songs on it it are: The Night Pop Dropped, Zoom Zoom The Little Boy, Boulevard, Headache, Without Music the World Dies, Suspicious Minds, Notre-Dame, Many Icebergs Ago, Happy New Tears and The Monsters of Pig Alley. He co-wrote four of the songs with Alain Whyte who is finally back in the band. He co-wrote more songs with Moz than anyone else including the great Johnny Marr. >< I posted a new video last week. If you have any free time I would love to hear from you Harris. Catch up soon~

Hi Rob.The live stuff I’ve heard from ‘Bonfire Of The Teenagers’ sounded like it could be his best album since ‘Your Arsenal’ I’ve long been a fan of Miles Cyrus’s voice . part Elvis, part KD Lang. Her live version of Crowded Houses ‘Don’t Dream Its Over’ is sublime. It’s a shame she’s blocked the song, but I imagine her record company got cold feet, Mozzer can be quite a divisive headline grabbing character! Yes that De La is a great pressing & far superior to the original (for obvious reason). You won’t be dissapointed. Definately going to pop over & watch your video, I occasionally check over & you hadn’t posted one for some time, so that’s my next job! Hope things are good in Boston Rob, beautifully pre-spring day over here!

In D&D you were like the extra in the Star Trek TV show that was always killed off early. You would see the main people going on an adventure and then there would be one extra person. You knew, this guy would not last 4 minutes, the guy was screwed and they had to kill him early so they wouldn’t have to pay him a lot. Every week it happened. I tried 5hat Talk Talk album but it was a head scratcher, just didn’t get it. Must not have translated into American well. That De La Soul I need to grab, it is going to sell out quickly. The 12" king is back!! Good to see you Harris. I wish I had zoom meetings that people would wave about albums instead of talking about bloody stats!! I think I saw Sven in that meeting too. That's something I didn't think about with sample based music, the fact that re-issues may not contain the same stuff. That sucks! Def Leppard fans don'r forget to like & subscribe 😅That Zombies repress is wild....like the D&D weirdos ha, ha! I love that Bee Gees record, but it's also got shit artwork...just slap some psychedelic colours in front of a run of the mill band photo. I'm with you Talk Talk later stuff a bit navel gazing, but the Colour Of Spring is brilliant.
Harris, why are you buying Chris Rea 12" singles? Well done on getting another Husker too. Cheers...Ben

Hey Ben, that Huskers was a freak..I literally see a copy of that about once every four years. Sad news the producer Spot died. loved his eccentric production style. Honestly works crazy atm, my Teams presentations are met with equal parts horror & hysterical laughter..tbh I just dont care anymore..if it all goes wrong I’ll sell the records! TBH I’m finding The Zombies a bit weedy, much prefer The Bee Gees. Cheers fellah Speak soon!

Teams is fucking death. Microsoft products in general are also literally the software equivalent of a raging tire fire. Love that you big upped De La Soul. Whatta classic. I need that double disc. Def Leppard HAS gone on for an eternity, right?
"Boy With The Thorn In His Side" has been a top 3 song for me since I first heard it. That 12 has this brother droolin'. Wow. Beautiful stuff!
That is literally the worst Zombies cover ever. What the actual fuck is that? I mean, of course I would have bought that BS, but how? How man? And 20 pound sterling? Mental, bud. The things you do for the show!
    Enjoy the weekend, Harris.

That Oracle & Odessey cover is bizarre, never understood the logic behind changing classic album sleeves.
Bee Gees 1st is fabulous, they're

Colour of Spring is fabulous, as you say left fieldish but very accessible.

Somehow Todd Rundgren actually managed to get a couple of 60 min+ albums on one LP without negating sound quality. Haha never seen that Odessey and Oracle cover before, it just makes it look like the shitest metal album ever tbh. Yeah Colour of Spring is lovely stuff. Had no idea Chris Rea had anything to do with the development of house music haha. Great find with the Husker Du ofc, hope you didn't have to pay too much for it!

Had no idea Josephine was the b side to Let's Dance. Wonder if its exactly the same as the "la version francaise" on the b side to Road to Hell 12. I've played that tune to death and I never tire of it. Same with Elkie Brooks' tune Spiritland, still see that Lp in the £1 bins fairly regularly. Cool Cat is also the b side to Las Palabras De Amor single BTW, cheaper option but only released on 7". Cheers!

As for the Smiths 12", they are exceedingly rare over here in the USA, and if I were to find a copy, it'd be $40+. You've talked quite a bit of Hip Hop over the years...any modern Hip Hop artists' records find their way to your player?

TBH I hear the odd modern hip hop single I quite like Cardi B , Travis Scott, Denzil Curry..etc, but my days of buying hip hop albums is over. The last hip hop album I loved was Edan’s ‘Beauty & The Beat’ which was 2005!!. Fantastic album, It’s a bit like Paul’s Boutique, but uses more Psychadelic rock & sixties pop samples. Well worth a listen if you don’t know it.
