The Max Lens Mod for the new GoPro Hero 9 allows for incredibly stable and smooth footage at 2.7k and up to 60 FPS. This video goes over the settings that I like to use and how you can get great results with it too.
The GoPro can shoot up to 5K and has incredible stabilization built in with no need of a gimbal.
No need for a gimbal with the new stabilization capabilities in the Hero 9.

Why would you want a Max Mod? Well, as I mentioned the stabilization on the GoPro is incredible BUT to get such good stabilization it crops in on the shot and in some situations you could miss out on the shot or not get the full immersive video you are expecting with a GoPro. The MAX mod is a fish-eye shape which is going to widen the shot allowing for that wide immersive point of view you get with a GoPro. So now you can get extra wide and extra stable footage.

That was a sick long run! Thnx! So I’m currently filming a Bike Skills Summer Camp and this is great help. Question. Your 2.7k videos. Do you upscale them to 4K, edit in 2.7k, or down scale to 1080?

Great content. What I haven’t been able to find anywhere is (compared with standard lens hypersmooth on, not boost) with max mod, can you maintain the FOV on the width (to not crop the ends of handlebars) to allow a portrait view, without compromising the width?

If I understand.. I think so.. more videos coming!

I just purchased a Hero 9 and I am waiting for the Max Lens Mod to arrive. Your video has inspired me to order a chest mount. Right now I have my GoPro mounted on my handlebar mountain bike handlebar. I an going to try switching how I use it once the harness arrives… handlebar mounted for smooth-semi-smooth surfaces and then chest mount once I hit the trails. Any recommendations or advice? The Hero9 is my first action camera.

That’s awesome! You are going to love it. I definitely recommend chest mount or anything even helmet or chin mount for for smoothest footage on the trails. Another thing is on the chest mount make sure to mount the GoPro upside down and tilt it upwards so when you lean forward it will point toward the trail 🤙

hey devin, appreciate the video i have a Q, wont having your gopro set to 24FPS VS 60 make it really.. idk shaky? i have always been told to set my cameras to Min of 60fps i currently have the 7-8-9-10 gopros and always thought 60FPS+ is better at least from what i was told in the past, ive been told movement needs 60FPS + and only use 30fps or less if the camera is not being touched/moved. have i been lied to all these years lol cause i got no idea now.

      Hey Scott,
Great question. If I understand correctly I think you are on the correct track BUT with some disclaimers. Here are the basics of how I think about it
      1.Edit to a 24 FPS Timeline:
24 FPS: Shows real time action 24/24 frames matching up in the timeline. Good for anything with audio or talking too. When it comes to POV mountain biking I like to shoot in 24 fps because it shows real speed.. slow motion can make it look like you are just riding a bike slowly.
30 FPS: When edited to a 24 FPS timeline offers a TINY bit of slow motion to your final product when you conform / match your shooting frame rate to your editing frame rate 30/24 (some people like to edit to a 30 fps timeline which would offer 30/30 = real time once again)
60 FPS: This offers 40-50% speed when edited 60/24 or 60/30 doubling your frame rate of your edit.
120-240 FPS slow motion same principle 240 FPS conformed to 24 FPS timeline is 10x slower.
Now, when I think of someone saying 60 smooths out/ reduces shake.. I would say that applies when you shoot at that 60FPS timeline and slow it down it appears to be smoother footage because you are stretching out the bumps and shakes and is less noticeable in slow motion. So you could run on with the camera hand held .. 60 may appear smoother when slowed to 24.
The internal stabilization on the new cameras has allowed for more shooting capabilities at 24 and 30FPS while stabilizing and creating smooth footage.
I hope this makes sense and helps!
      Thanks for watching!

You can also shoot in 4:3, then do 16:9 superview in post by your methods of choice (lens distortion + warp) , which I prefer as you can retain the vertical field of view....

Thanks for the comment! A few things Iv picked up on is with some videos it appears to need additional processing time as well as watching it in 4K on chrome or when using a mobile. ... my last couple videos looked bad on the first day then after a day or 2 it looked way better. 🤞 hoping it cleans up
