I’ve been running my 2017 A4 Allroad 3.0tdi sport now for 3.5yrs and 51k miles. I’ve owned quite a few cars in my time and all I can say about the Allroad is that it is perfectly suited to British roads and British weather. It’s extremely comfy, the performance from the 280ps (600nM) diesel is immense and the suspension just laughs at our awful British roads. I’m thinking of changing it soon and I just cannot come up with any alternative. So, it will be another A4 Allroad.
    They are fantastic machines.

Jaguar F-Pace is probably a great car to think about - perhaps slightly smaller, but the ride quality is amazing - and it has rear wheel drive preference. Land Rover Disco Sport is also great and very similar - cabin wise it's the A4 allroad size. Perhaps it comes in handy :)

Why do people buy SUVs... particularly 2WD ones...when cars like this exist ON THE SAME FOOTPRINT.
They look better, ride better, go faster and cost less to buy and run than SUVs. Audi and Volvo have been making these for years now and have it pretty much perfected. If I ever have £85k spare, I'm getting The 330hp A6 Allroad Vorsprung. It's a van, an SUV, a GT car and an luxury executive all in one.

It's super comfortable, very capable, amazing on motorways and B class roads alike. Suspension is epic, interior and options are top drawer. I notice the internal cabin space over the A6 but overall a capable and luxurious car with many features that make driving effortless.

I love that you are taking more time talking about suspensions. This is in my opinion more important that the engine. There is nothing worse than a car that is supposed to be a family hauler /wagon and every time you hit a bump it wakes up the kids in the back seat. I don't care about fake exhausts or 20 minute explanations of exterior design. I've got eyes I can see them just fine thank you. It would be great if you could devise a test for suspensions with some sort of measuring equipment (driving with a full glass of water on the dash is hardly called scientific :) ) Just one question: Which car has more supple suspension: A6, A6 Allroad or BMW 6 GT ?

Like many of its ilk, it makes the car much more expensive to run. Even the standard VED can be quite hefty now. The pre-April 2017 rates make used cars really attractive.

I watched this video when I was laid up and used the time constructively to research a new car! So a big thanks Joe, this video really helped me decide on an A4 Allroad. And to echo other comments, this is a fantastic car. I have the 45TSI, which thanks to the first owner, had been optioned with everything. Things that are really good: super smooth engine, super smooth ride, the acoustic glazing, really strong brakes, excellent climate control, LED headlights lights. All journeys long or short are effortless. Rock solid and stable in all weather conditions. One unexpected bonus, I live in London and it glides over speed bumps. If you can find a car with these options, I’d recommend: B&O Stereo (awesome), Panoramic roof (feels really light and bright). Things that could be better: Gearbox in comfort around town can occasionally be hesitant when pulling away, but not bad. While the car has cruise control, it absolutely should be adaptive and would make for even better motorway driving, (for this money it should be standard when they manage that on a Golf). The rear view camera can get grimed up.

Bought my B9 RS4 back in May 2021 off the back of your terrific Sonoma Green RS4 review having traded in a B9 S4 Avant (previously bought mostly off the back off Petrol Pee’s review……see a recurring theme here 🤔) As brilliant as the RS4 was, being my only car it wasn’t proving suitable for some of our Scottish Island Roads. Couldn’t stomach a SUV so traded it in for a B9.5 45tfsi Allroad with 5k miles on one of the last made & got a load of cash back from dealer and wish I’d changed ages ago. Brilliant car with a serene smooth competent ride and enough punch for real world use. Sad that the MMI wheel has gone (backward step Audi). Maybe a sign of my age but the perfect balance and ideal car to suit me getting to MTB trails, Munro’s and generally dealing with our shitty roads. I've had my 2017 A4 Allroad Sport with the 3.0TDI engine since 2018 and I agree with your points - lovely car. I previously had 3 A6s - the last being an A6 Allroad - and I'd originally planned to get another A6 Allroad but the A4 Allroad handled so much better and is fast enough with this engine in! It's served me very well - enjoyable to drive, practical for load carrying, nice to be in and no problems whatsoever. I regularly get more than 50mpg too. What do I get next????

I am currently looking at 4 vehicles: 2021 A4 Allroad, 2019 Mercedes c43 AMG estate, 2018 BMW x5 40e and 2016 Porsche Cayenne s hybrid..... Whar would you select? Driving dynamics are important (want to have some fun) but I also have 3 kids and do the school run. I've been driving a 2008 Volvo v70 so any way you look any one of these will be a significant upgrade!

This one looks sweet as well.
But I’d always recommend the air suspensions from the A6

I had the random thought yesterday: "I'd like to replace our old gas guzzling SUV with something more efficient. It still has to be comfortable, able to handle bad roads and rough weather AND have plenty of space in the back for stuff. Are their any good wagons left for sale in the USA?" Less than 24 hours later I'm looking into A4 Allroads and I see one of my favorite RUclipsrs for automotive content has covered the A4 not to long ago! Thanks Joe, I appreciate your thoughts and have a lot of respect for your point of view. I'll definitely be taking a closer look at the A4 Allroad in the coming months.

I really enjoy your channel and found this review fascinating as I’m about to order a new estate. I would value your opinion. I’m looking for a good to drive spacious car for local city use and long distances. Only about 6000 miles per year. We have terrible roads here in Edinburgh. Hence thinking about the Allroad with either diesel or petrol engine vs 330i Touring. Do you feel the BMW worth the extra approx £6 to £8k?
Bearing in mind the Allroad would have adaptive cruise and upgraded hi-fi. Neither of which are available on the BMW at the monent due to chip shortage. Thanks!

I'm lucky owner of A4 Allroad 2.0TFSI and I can confirm you Joe are completely right in your review ;) I love this car :) PS> there's curiosity: if you want to buy this version in Audi Approved program you would be dissapointed because of zero offers across UK (all available Audi models in Audi Approved system are over 11,000) and only few ones with Diesel engines

Joe..we had the BMW F31 3 series touring and we miss it but its newer version is not available in the U.S. How does its transmission compare to the BMW Touring's ZF 8 speed? Would you consider this A4 Allroad the best replacement option? What about Volvo's V60 alternatives? So very few tourings / wagons available in the U.S.

They're not comparable is any shape or form. But the Skoda offers so much bang for the buck. The ultimate budget car pretty much.
The A6 is a luxury / premium Avant or sedan.
Best thing you can do is drive them both right after each other and you'll find the Skoda rough, noisy and with a cheap interior. But on its own it's hard to beat.

@@stephenlaw9827 I now have a 2016 A4 Avant v6 quattro. It has S line suspension which is on the firm side, glad I asked for the 18 inch alloys instead of 19 it originally came on.
In every respect it is a really good car, rapid but pretty good on fuel if you take it easy and get the most out of the coasting mode in the transmission. The only way I can think I could improve it is if it came with adjustable air ride like the allroad. But you pays yer money etc.

I have a 2017 A4 Allroad it’s my 4 th Audi and it’s brilliant .I live in Canada so no more TDI [ shame ] but it comes fully loaded , my personal opinion is maybe 80% of people driving SUV ‘s don’t need too . Great car good looking car well worth considering the ONLY problem we’re the absolutely categorically useless Continental tires which I dumped at 3000 miles after my second sidewall blow out .
