The summer of 58 I was 12 years old and for a brief moment 16 yr. old Robin Luke took the place of Elvis as the one I hugged my pillow dreaming of--great song by a haole boy living in Hawaii at the time. I saw him at Pacific Ocean Park and on the Wink Martindale bandstand-clone show in L.A. He later became a business management professor at a university in Missouri--I looked him up and called him just to let him know I still admired his song all those years later, 12 year old crush not withstanding.
Oh, and I had big envy of his car, a karmann ghia convertible. I would have fantasies of driving along Sunset Blvd. in a car like that or Annette Funicello's 56 T-bird with the porthole windows.
Robin Luke may have gone on to become a distinguished Professor and Department Head, now Professor Emeritus of Marketing at Missouri State University, but his legacy to humanity will be this wonderful song. This catchy melody has been translated into German, French and Spanish, and covered by several artists in those language speaking countries, even as late as 2007. Very great song indeed even though it's before my time. Many had adopted this type of sound because it was similar to what Buddy Holly was playing. It's great that Robin was still performing.
Man, I wish they still made songs like this. Had some great slow dances with some pretty girls back in the day to this song. Thank you Mr. Luke!!
This song brings back so many memories of my childhood and life in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Dr. Robin Luke rocks!
One of my favorite songs from the days of my youth. God bless him, if he' still with us.
I played the guitar in this song in 1958, and I was 14 years old, oh God it seems like yesterday..Richard Tnp
WOW......GREAT SONG!!!
