- Julia Hartley-Brewer clashes with former Downing Street chief of staff Lord Gavin Barwell over Net Zero.
The debate turned heated when Lord Barwell suggested populist parties, like Nigel Farage’s Reform UK, is “a good long-term solution for the country”.
Reform has previously said that “the first thing” the party should do if it wins the next general election is “scrap Net Zero”.
Lord Barwell argues: “We’re facing a serious problem with our climate, which Farage doesn’t take seriously.”
Julia says: "You need to read up on this, there is simply no evidence... that is a lie, it is impossible to achieve Net Zero!"

GB was part of the Eurasian Plate, moving due to plate tectonics. 66 million years ago, the landmass was located farther south, closer to the warm subtropical zone. fossil record shows that the UK landmass was mostly under water at that time and will likely have looked like a small island chain. So saying it was under an ice sheet when the dinosaurs were around is actually untrue. During the Cretaceous Period 145 to 66 million years ago, there were no polar ice caps.
The point here is that during the Cretaceous period the co2 was likely over 2000ppm, “CO2 fertilization” effect would have allowed fro massive growth, including gigantism in plants. Cretaceous was warm, greenhouse world with temperatures estimated to be roughly 20-25 celsius, not exactly killer hot.
Sure there will be a coastal readjustment and "slightly" less landmass to live on because of polar melting, but with more CO2, the world would become a rainforest and not the desert that they fear monger about. Existing deserts would become rainforests over time. Warmer climate would produce more water evaporation and adding to the rain cycle would end pretty much all deserts.

If our politicians were serious about 'global emissions' and climate change, they should be putting pressure on China and India; and if, for example, they were concerned about pollution in London, they should be doing something about the emissions from the Underground and Heathrow.

If/when I was needed I could renew my visa (L & B permits). Only after 5 years could I stay in Switzerland (C permit) and was not eligible to get a passport until after

Main geological change has generally been brought about by volcanic activity generated from within the earth and changes in the suns activity. Whilst we do make some change and need to be mindful of how we treat our planet and more so how we farm, clear lands and keep our planet rubbish free. The climate agenda is driven to forms of energy that are money spinners. Nuclear energy is a way forward that harnessed provides plentiful energy and of course needs risk management. It’s actually what mad Ed Billyband is relying on to make up for wind and solar in our country that will fail. However his plan is to buy electric from France like we do now and especially like the Wednesday the other week when we were within 3 hours of the National Grid toppling 🤔
