What you said in the beginning about taking a step back and enjoying the process is exactly what I needed to hear this morning, for immediate use today for what I'm doing today!!!
Scott, you have done a masterful job. The fact that you show your mistakes and then explain how you have fixed them to your satisfaction is a tip of the hat to you. I am working on a van as well. This is not a job for the faint of heart but certainly gives you a level of satisfaction when you complete a job leading to the end of the build.
That looks so professional that’s Prevost territory right there. And just so you understand I worked at an RV dealership in the detail department and I have cleaned several million dollar Prevosts. Including but not limited to pulling all the cabinet drawers and shelves out and belongings out and cleaning the plumbing and wiring and conduit. You have peaked my interest because I have a 144 3500 freightliner I said I am going to be converting soon.
I have a DIY van that I purchased. I have no craftsman skills. I bought it turn key it was not built for me. The builder used 80-20 framing and used marine grade vinyl for the wall panels to keep the weight down. I wish I had L Track and hopefully can have it added. I think it’ll come in very handy for so many things. I love your channel and viewing the process of creativity, ingenuity, and problem solving. There’s so much I need to learn and understand about van builds so that I can maintain and trouble shoot mine. I love my van but unfortunately the builder is 3000 miles away from me so it’s not EZ to get back to him if/when things need work.
Looks epic! We are thinking about buying your van build guide. Does it give us access to more of the new van build content as well? This new build is going to be unreal!!!
Hello Scott, I’ve looked at the video a few times, search in the comments, but I actually did not any answer from you on how and with what kind of screws have you fix the ceilling ? Thx JF
Scott, your ceiling looks great!! A couple questions: 1. how did you support the plywood at the most forward and rearward ends of the van? 2. How do you support the plywood at the sides of the van ( is it just compressed by your upper cabinets? 3. How did you accommodate the electrical cable running front to rear at the top of the driver's side wall?
Hi, they looked great. It’s nice to hear someone thinking about the weight of the conversion ahead of time. I do wonder how many overloaded van conversions are rolling down the road. Have you had any issues with the vinyl expanding or contracting with changes in temperature changes?
favorite new van channel. Very high production quality. way to go! Can you share your source for the marine vinyl? Also looking to do perforated marine vinyl ceiling but I want something I can trust
Thanks for the video Scott! I'm considering the perforated vinyl as well, did you have any concerns for condensation going through the holes and absorbing into the foam?
Your build and ceiling looks awesome! But i wonder what the aprox. weight of your ceiling is? It would give me an idea, if i need to rethink my ceiling. Again great build and great video
@@scottadamson6116 Thanks for your respond. Your video made me really doubt, if i should change my plans. But i stick to my original plan. Because wouldn’t look nice with what I already finished. Again thanks for this video, and a great ceiling you made. Cheers
Hi Scott - We are in the building phase of ceilings and walls and this video is being watched for the second time now - thanks for such good info for this style of ceiling! I do have a question though, did you choose to put the 1/8" closed-cell foam between plywood and vinyl for sound dampening? or softening the blow if you hit your head, lol? Seriously though, any thoughts / ideas would be appreciated - we were wondering if we needed to use the foam, what advantage it would serve. Partly because of all that gluing/wrapping effort, which though you did a great job, we're not 100% certain we want to tackle...thanks!
Thanks for documenting your build. Nice looking ceiling panels...just the sort of thing I'm thinking of...you don't show how the panels are fixed to the ceiling, I get the riv nuts and pointed studs to mark the plywood, good idea, but what are the actual fixings used...cheers
Wow, looks great......we are doing exactly the same on our 2020 Sprinter. I see you used the Jackson product with a spray gun - better than 3M 74 or 3M 80 which comes in a spray can ? And, what glue did you use when taping the inch or two of vinyl wrap that went on the back side ? Thanks !
Great video! Wat is the reason that you the Closed Cell Landau Foam between the plywood and the marine vinyl. What is the function of this, and where did you buy it?
Good question! It really gives is that professional look and feel. Without the foam the vinyl directly on the wood, would not look very good as every imperfioction in the wood you would see through. Just google it Im in Canada to the suppliers are different.
Scott, I am doing exactly the same ceiling treatment on my 170 and have the L track to go in between the panels just as you did. I wanted to add the arrowheads that go at either end of the L track but am worried about getting the fit exactly right. It was difficult putting them on the L track on a flat, vertical wood surface ( I have them on the back wall of my garage ) so the thought of adding them on the ceiling, which of course is metal- and curved, not straight, kinda terrifies me ! Did you consider it and if not, why not..? Thx
2 weeks?!? Man you weren't lying when you said you took your time lol That job should probably have took 2 full 8hr days max so you must of had something else going on during the time, good job though lol
Hey yeah Im not a pro.... I dont do it for a living....but I had to pick up the materials, map out the ceiling....mark all holes for rivnuts for both the ceiling panels and upper cabinets at this time....make sure the holes in the plywood line up with the rivnuts....scribe, cut, trim cut, trim cut....... x3 pieces......Then foam, wrap, vinyl wrap, 3 pieces..... insulate ceiling, install lighting in panels and wire them, running wiring from one side of the van to the other and make sure I have enough wires going over.... install the panels on sheet at a time allowing me to make adjustments..... Yeah it took me a while but im happy with the results.
Thanks for "enjoy the process". It's easy to forget why I started this project in the first place!
What you said in the beginning about taking a step back and enjoying the process is exactly what I needed to hear this morning, for immediate use today for what I'm doing today!!!
Wow, I am so impressed. Looks sweet!
High level craftsmanship here and attention to detail. You have set a very high bar for the rest of us sir. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much! A lot of research went into all my build decisions so hopefully it's all worth it! :)
Wow ceiling goals! Looks incredible... love this idea 👊🏼
Thanks so much! 😊I happy with how it turned out but its a ton of work

Thanks William thats awesome I appreciate you recognizing the attention to detail
Gorgeous ceiling 💯 super clean.
Beautiful craftsmanship!
I subscribed!
👍🏻 :D
So good! How did you mount the panels to the ceiling? And how do you hide those connections? It looks so clean!

Yeah the L track is really handy and thanks so much for watching the video! Building a van is a lot of trial and error but its a fun project.
Scott, thank you
Did you have to bend the L track a bit to fit across the ceiling ridges?
Good decision! Enjoy the path, your new van is going to be beautiful
Thanks! Im excited for the finished results.
How did you hide all the fasteners screwed into the rivnuts?
Looks epic! We are thinking about buying your van build guide. Does it give us access to more of the new van build content as well? This new build is going to be unreal!!!
Thanks! I will be updating the build guide with the new build as I go along. The guide will include both vans.
Impressive and a thumbs up 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Where did you mount the rear most ceiling panel ? If there is on rib near the rear door, what do your mount too?
Hello Scott, I’ve looked at the video a few times, search in the comments, but I actually did not any answer from you on how and with what kind of screws have you fix the ceilling ? Thx JF
Great results.
Thank you Don! Im super happy with it
How did you attach the panels...you talk about rivnuts but you can't see them with the finished panel...did you powder coat the M6 bolts?
What kind of glue did you use you used for the paneling, by the way nice job.
I love it! The sound quality must be great in there....or will be......great job!
Thank you! I hoping its going to be awesome so I can keep making videos on the road.
I hope so, too many people are hooked on your channel.......namely me!
@@johncoffey7180 Thanks for following along! I appreciate that!

Its insane some builds I see are way over the GVWR its scary.
another great job!
Thanks again!
Awesome work! Just finished mine too!
Thats awesome! Its a big milestone to get it done.

@@scottadamson6116 USA!
Bump. This would also be helpful to know. Love the look!
What brand of vinyl did you use? So many choices and so many price variances
Looks great
I was taught that White ceilings bring the ceiling down. Dark ceilings makes them feel taller.
Scott, Great video, super helpful. What thickness foam did you use? Thanks!
Thanks for the video Scott! I'm considering the perforated vinyl as well, did you have any concerns for condensation going through the holes and absorbing into the foam?
I like it and do my ceiling van just like that.
Really enjoying the channel. Can I ask where you got the marine vinyl or anything specific to look out for when sourcing for a van conversion?
I get mine from Jackson.ca
Where can I order the Jackson s-8585 trim cement?
Your build and ceiling looks awesome! But i wonder what the aprox. weight of your ceiling is? It would give me an idea, if i need to rethink my ceiling. Again great build and great video
Im not sure its super light though I can lift all 3 pieces at once.

Yeah Ill try and show that better Im holding up the ceiling panels using the upper cabinet rails. Ill go over that in a future video.
did you figure out?

Yeah I find it better because the volume of stuff you go throguh this ends up being cheaper. On the back side I used staples

Very nice , clean look with the marine vinyl ! What insulation is going behind those panels ?
Ill be using 1/2 inch PolyIso
Hey Scott, what air compressor settings did you use?
Settings?
Love the look. Can you tell me what the brand of glue was?
I got it from a website Jackson.ca
Wow Scott. Looks amazing. What fabric covering did you use for the pillars that meet it? 8:12
Its called Duramax

How many yards did it take to do the roof?
It really depends on how wide the rolls are you using. But you have very little waste since they are big pieces that are fairly uniform.
You must make a vid about fridge choices
We probably will we do have a blog post on the website about it! Check that out.
