My wife and I went to Sal for the first time back in April 2023. It was amazing and won't be the last time we visit. The people are so friendly and the beaches are amazing with turquiose water. Shark Bay was one of the best experiences we've ever had. I got some amazing drone footage from the Santa Maria area. I look forward to going back there.

@@belle4978 you should! The country has so much to offer, not only the beautiful white beaches in Sal, but also other beautiful sceneries. Yes, both my parents are from there and I have been there about 7 times now. Which is not too often since I’m 29 years old haha! Thanks and hopefully I can visit Haiti also one day!

Great, informative video! We are so excited, we will be on Sal in just over a week! We will be spending a week 5km from Santa Maria, is taxis and transports simple on the island? Really want to explore Santa Maria a few times.

Thank you for this - a great video. We are planning to relocate there from the UK for the health of our 4 year old daughter. Heading out to Sal in September for 6 months. If you have any more advice we would love to hear from you.
Wow that's an amazing step! I would recommend you in those 6 months to visit other islands as well. My favorite one is Santo Antão as it is full of beautiful nature.

I was in Sal for 3 weeks last year. I must honestly admit that it was a big disappointment. The people are very nice, but that's about it. You can't go anywhere without being bothered by pushy street vendors. Also the sea and the island itself look much more beautiful on the videos than in reality. You can forget about snorkeling, the current ensures that you cannot see anything. Except for the hotel area in Santa Maria, the island is a big ruin with great visible poverty.
Pro' s:
Shark Bay (bring your own slippers and you don't need a guide to see the sharks, don't fall for this tourist trap)
street dogs, these are really nice and sweet
Cabo Verde people are really nice
negative things:
The fish will undoubtedly taste perfect, but for non-fish eaters the food on the island is not great. We ate out twice a day for 20 days and tried many restaurants, the quality is not good.
Lots of very pushy street vendors
Apart from Shark Bay, the salt mine and the cable car, there is actually nothing to do, if you like to lie on the beach all day then this is the place for you.
I wouldn't have wanted to miss this holiday, but not a second time for us
P.s Be careful if you take a taxi to Santa Maria for the first time. You will be met by a big dark man, at first he is very friendly and acts as if he is your best friend and he takes you to the shop of his "mother". Cut this man off immediately because he only wants to sell you overpriced junk.
Thanks for sharing your view! Unfortunately there are also quite some (pushy) street vendors indeed, which I want to emphasize: are not Cape Verdeans. However, if you would like to experience the "real Cape Verde" I would recommend you to go to islands as São Vicente and Santo Antão, it's a complete different vibe and not built around tourism. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience 😁
Most of these street vendors are Senegalese and they sell overpriced Senegalese souvenirs and pretend it is capeverdean but the culture between these two countries are very different
I agree nothing special or spectacular in Sal island or cape Verde in general. It is good to do it once but not more. Maybe it would be more interesting to do island hopping 3 days here and 3 days there...

Is there any nightlife in Cape Verde? Nightclubs, or beach parties, etc
Yes for sure, there are several bars on the main street. For 1 week I find it's good, but after a while it feels a bit repetitive for me. However, there are also big events in Sal for example a big festival in September, that is definitely worth visiting!

hey Chrissy, you should go! Cape Verde has a lot to offer, Sal is just one of the many beautiful islands. I would say a good start as it is very touristic so plenty of people to meet.

For me it was one off the ugliest island i visited. It's one big plane desert with a rock in thé Middle. Try thé other islands in Cap Verdie, way better. But i loved thé People ❤

Sort out the persistent amount of sellers trying to sell cheap goods, many are agresive at times .
The funny thing is that those are not even Cape Verdeans, but people from other African countries that come to sell the products over there.

Yes for sure, just as everywhere look where you should be at night and where not. There are plenty of tourists and to give you an example: I was the only dark skinned person on the plane 😅

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience, but it's not a food poisoning dump. As in all travel places, just know where you should eat and in Sal all places have been perfect for me and a lot of others so far :)

Fuerteventura le da mil vueltas. Aquí hay un Senegalés en casa esquina de Santa María intentado venderte la moto o intentando estafarte.
También está llena de prostitutas Senegalesas ofreciéndose a todas las horas del día por la calle principal.
Hay mucha pobreza y da la sensación de mucha delincuencia.
En los supermercados es todo realmente caro, mucho más que en Europa y hay ausencia de carne sobre todo y de verduras y frutas frescas. Todo está muy pocho.
Las playas son del montón, las fotos y las vistas de dron no les hacen justicia.
Venden a la isla muy bien pero ni por asomo volvería.
Hay infinidad de destinos más baratos y mejores.
UNA GRAN DECEPCIÓN 👎👎👎
