Hi Mike, is there any chance you could do "Peggy Sue" by Buddy Holly at all? The drumming on this track by Jerry Allison was very unique, especially for that time. Chris Sharrock tried to replicate the same sound with Beady Eye. It sounds very tricky.
@@MikeBarnesDrums ha ha, "simple"...you're talking to a guitarist here. That drumming malarkey is too complicated for me. I will forward the video to my lad who is just getting ready for Grade 7 exam. He said your "sticking is brilliant on 2 weeks"👍
@@K74_C Peggy Sue goes "RLRR LRLL" (a paradiddle) repeated on a snare drum - or around the kit of you want to replicate the live version: ruclips.net/video/odcnqWYLu_g/видео.html
Alas, I'm not a channel member (yet) Mike, but I don't think you've ever covered the famous Stone Roses drum beat from Fools Gold have you? Any chance...?
Although it's technically not a very difficult pattern I still find it a tricky beat to play. It's all about that swing feel to the bass which quickly can sound rushed while at the same time it kind of needs that in order to kick this track forward.
The BIGGEST thing people miss with this groove that makes it swing - and it don;t swing without it - are the ghost notes on the snare. People never get this right and I hear it played by various people and right away, no ghost notes - no groove. The Snare and Kick goes --- Grrrrr-Rump Pump Pump Grrrr-Rump Pump Pa Pump Pup .... That Grrr is the ghosting of the snare like a soft roll in Military Side Drumming ... I never hear people playing it. Go listen to the isolated track of Hunt playing the groove ... the Grrr ghosting IS the spirit of the entire lick.
Nice one! Yeah I did the Grrr at the start! Could have done it more often though and I agree, occurs often throughout the tune and is a big part of the feel. Thanks for pointing it out and thanks for watching!
