Sorry for giving you guys a headache!!!! Next video, ill make sure not to constantly zoom in and out :) Side Note: Using this method, you DON'T even need to use another software (illustrator, corel, etc.) to take out the background of an image before processing into IMAG-R. All you have to do is load your raw image onto imag-r, and then download as .bmp. Then load the processed image into lightburn and follow the steps in this video. This way, you will only have to trace ONCE! Cheers!
This was helpful thanks. I’m actually been having an issue where images that I need a certain area shaded doesn’t come shaded. I have tried putting a smaller image of it inside but that doesn’t always work
A GREAT TRAINING VIDEO! I WAS ABLE TO FOLLOW IT ALL THE WAY BUT WHEN I DID THE RIGHT CLICK TO APPLY THE MASK I COULD NOT FIND THAT OPTION. I HAD JUST UPLOADED THE NEW UPDATE. CAN YOU TELL ME WHERE TO FIND THE APPLY MASK NOW?
Hi! It should be the same even with the new update :) Make sure your mask line is a closed loop (start node and end node meet). Also something I forgpt to mention in the video is that you have one shot when drawing your mask. Once you start drawing the mask, you have to go all the way from start to end. You cannot redo any lines or start from where you left off. If you make a mistake, you have to delete what you just made and start from the beginning, unfortunately.
@@laserillusionstech I'm also using a newer version and I did the process of tracing about 5 times making sure I closed the loop. Apply mask is not an option when I right click.
@@laserillusionstech I figured out the issue is was having. Instead of try to click both background and T1 line, I clicked Ctrl + A and selected all that way. The allowed me to apply mask. Thanks for the video
@@forallhavesinned yeah that should solve it. Both background and masking lines should be selected, and Ctr+A will work as well (as long as you dont have any other objects in your workspace apart from those 2 object.) Im glad it worked out! Cheers :)
I guess this method not working anymore, I've used it before and worked great! Issue Im having now is the lines end up behind the image so I can't see where Im placing lines unless I move the image
Hi. Newbie here. Try as I may, I can't seem to get the mask function to work. After tracing a line around my image with the pencil, either using a color or one of the T functions, then selecting all, then right clicking to click on Mask, but the mask function does NOT appear! It's also not highlighted in the Tools menu. What am I doing wrong? How do I get the mask function to work? Please advise, anyone. Thank you so much.
@@laserillusionstech thanks, I’ll try it. Been having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to remove stuff in the photo. I have like 6 objects in the photo I want to keep and blank out the rest.
Can you create a video to process the image like this one you used in lightburn and show the process and how much improvement we get... My photo faces get washed out !!!
Hi - Thanks for this video but there is one thing that you seem to have missed in that it is not necessary to "start over again" if your line does not snap to the end to close the mask. If you simply stop the line drawing and select the mask line ,go to node edit and you can do anything you like with the line / shape you have drawn including joining the last node to the first to close the mask and inserting new nodes so you can round or adjust the visble parts of your photo at will . Ifind it makes the whole process much easier and more accurate. Just FYI. Cheers
Great vid however, this doesn't seem to work on 1.3.01...I realize that a TON can change in a couple of years and that's probably what happened in this case, but again, great vid!👍🏾
PLEASE DISREGARD my last comment...this still works, you just HAVE to use Ctrl+A to capture the image and item to be masked to get the 'Apply Mask To Image' option to show up...using the individual cursor moves didn't work for me, but Ctrl+A did it every time.💯
Thats weird. What layer are you using for your masking? Make sure the layer you are using is a "Line" layer, and not a "Fill" layer. Or you can just use the T1 or T2 layer.
@@laserillusionstech Yeah it’s really weird as a highlight both items it right click all I have is cut copy paste duplicate delete select all group ungroup lock selected shapes convert a path convert to BMP preview and show properties
@@jaridperry9508 Thats great! Glad it worked out. ;) My suspicion is that the first tracing might not have been a closed loop (the first point was not completely connected to the last point of the tracing). Make sure to turn on snap settings when you are about to do your last point of your trace. It helps a lot. cheers :)

Nice video - would help not to constantly scroll in and out in the beginning - makes you dizzy to watch - but technique is nice
@@machinerocket772 noticed that after recording hehe. Will keep that in mind for next video. Thanks for the comment. :)
@@laserillusionstech I do that rolling in and out too, content is gold. Thanks for taking the time.
@@LairdJ56 Thanks for the kind words :)
Please. It’s very annoying.
I'm new to lasers as well as lightburn, & I personally appreciate any & all the help I can get, & this tutorial helps a bunch!!!!! Thank you!!!!
you not going to believe i watched 7 different videos on this and ypurs was the only one that i actually came right with !! thanks bud!!!
Good job on the video. I believe you can also "flatten the mask" to permanently crop the background out. But I fairly new so could be wrong.
I'll try this,thank you
Thanks for showing this. Wanted to do this on a project.
I got it working i was not snapping the line back to the original point correctly... thanks
Thanks for the video, very helpful

How do i move and zoom without loosing contact and breaking my line?
I’m new and this will make it obvious but how did you move your image around while you were drawing.I only know how with the curser.
Click and hold your scroll wheel on your mouse.

Good video. But I’m dizzy from all the moving around with the image.
Sorry about that. Please see pinned post :)
oh my what is your obsession with zooming in and out and moving the pic all over!?!?
Hehehe. Sorry ive got adhd. Tried my best not to do that on my videos after this.
great tutorial thanks.but could I critisize without offending. please dont zoom in and out all the time when youre just talking it does your eyes in
No offence taken. Hehe i had the same complaint from a few other people. I have fidgety fingers, buyIll make sure to not do that next video :)
It is very distracting to watch the cursor run around the screen. It looks like there is a fly on your screen.
Sorry about that. Totally agree. Please see pinned post :)
Good content but god please stop jumping around and zooming in an out like crazy.
Please see pinned post. Thanks.
This was painful to watch.... Too much movement and too much redundant talk.
Agreed :) This is a pretty old video. I make less movements on my videos after this haha. Thanks for the feedback.
