Fleeing means to spiritually and mentally “run” in the opposite direction of the lustful temptation to where God is. This means speaking scripture that condemns lust. This means choosing to fix your thoughts on God grace, love, mercy, and beautiful character instead. This means choosing to praise God for his faithfulness and promise to deliver you in the middle of temptation because praise stuns the devil and breaks chains. Remember, you can never defeat lust on your own. _Always_ let the fear of God (meaning the reverence of God, the desire to honor God) overpower the temptation to lust. Also make sure your music and media content does not encourage any lustful activities. The pleasure of lust may last for awhile, but the destructive consequences last a lifetime. Either way lust and pornography are hard to deal with before you have conquered them. I’m going to give you a two fold answer here. An answer someone else gave me to the same question and then my answer on how I’ve dealt with lust. The answer someone else gave me was prayer. And this should always be our first answer. We pray and ask for help. I noticed when I viewed pornography God would always give me a way out before acting on it, clear in-ignorable signs to get me to stop. For example if my dog was let outside she would start barking non-stop and I would have to stop what I was doing and go deal with it, that’s one example. I won’t delve too much into this but God will always give us a way out of sin. We won’t be tempted beyond our ability to resist. And when we feel like we can’t resist (speaking specifically to lust but really any and all of the sins, anger included) we can pray and ask God for help and He will help us through it. We should want His will to be done. If you are asking for help, then obviously you do, but it’s important to know that God knows the heart as well as the mind. That can be a scary thought, but it is comforting as well. God knows you want to repent. This is the prayer someone told me they used when they saw beautiful women walking down the street, when they started giving into lust and thinking very sexual thoughts. “Please Lord Christ, walk with me through this troublesome thought.” They also stated, they understood that wanting the flesh so badly was also a form of false idolatry and this also is what helped them to overcome it because false idolatry is indeed a grave sin. Now, before I say how I’ve dealt with it in the past. I should first say that everything that we do, we should do first and foremost for God. We should want to do the will of the Father. The reason that we obey God should be to please Him, the reason shouldn’t only be to save ourselves. As you grow in the faith you will begin to understand this better. With that being said we should also know and fear the consequences for continuing to willfully give in to sin, without repenting for those sins. The gravity of the situation needs to be understood. Right now you are off to a good start because your heart is in the right place and you want to repent so don’t lose hope. Now, When I had problems with porn, I would stop and ask myself, is viewing this worth my eternal soul? Is it worth eternal death? For momentary pleasure? And if the answer to that was no, I wouldn’t give in. (Sometimes I did give in to temptation but I took it very seriously and questioned if it was worth it and this is what helped me to stop). This is what helped solve it for me. If you feel you can not resist, pray and ask the Lord for help, in Jesus mighty name. And He will deliver you and give you a way out if that is what you desire in your heart. God knows not just our thoughts, but our heart too. If we pray in humble submission, He will deliver us. And if the answer to that was no, I wouldn’t give in. (Sometimes I did give in to temptation but I took it very seriously and questioned if it was worth it and this is what helped me to stop). This is what helped solve it for me. If you feel you can not resist, pray and ask the Lord for help, in Jesus mighty name. And He will deliver you and give you a way out if that is what you desire in your heart. God knows not just our thoughts, but our heart too. If we pray in humble submission, He will deliver us.
