I bought a house with a very small yard. Unfortunately the previous owner had large dogs that urinated out and compacted the soil to the point of no growth. Not even weeds. I am dealing with the urea issue as best I can. My friend just bought a small tiller and offered it to me it till up my yard and plant a small lawn or sod. He stated I should buy grass seed and compost and spread it before I till so it will be tilled into the ground. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you so much!

Great video. Does the tiller have a way to freewheel the drive wheels for manually moving the tiller without the engine running?

Nice to see someone using safety gloves, but often I have found sections of wire wrapped in the tines not just grass and string. Silly not to wear them while cleaning the tines.

What is the purpose of that vertical bar right in the center in the back?

Yes, I had fun watching this. I laughed all the way through it. Just kidding.
It would never compare to a Howard Gem though. 😁
And that machine leaves it looking rough with footprints.
I really miss my Howard Jem.
It had 9 horsepower with swivel handlebars, three speeds forward, one reverse, differential locks when tines were engaged. It also had four clutches to eliminate damage to the motor or any other moving parts. One on the engine, one on each Drive wheel, and one on the tine shaft.
It also had the L-shaped tines instead of those C-shaped tines. It also weighed around 700 lb to give you the necessary weight to do an excellent professional job that was as smooth as glass when finished. No tire marks or footprints either.
But they haven't been made in quite a few years. The one I had was made back in the 40s or 50s.
Bareto's are probably one of the better ones that are still made. But even those are lacking in several nice features.

Why are the tires on backwards?

They are not on back wards it ma seem that way but actually it’s so you can move it easier or they get better grip without ripping up the sod in your yard to move it to the garden

Leaving that rock there is a good idea for next time you till it 😀🙄🤔🤨😒

This tiller is one of those goofy reverse tine tillers.
Tillers like this are not heavy enough to do a good professional job with forward rotating tines.

How often should one till there garden?

Welp u can only till the center or main part once per planting season lol. Don't wanna till up ur veggies.
But you can till around the sides of your garden every 2 to 3 weeks to prevent weeds creeping in.

you need a front tine tiller for that. Rear tine are great for soft soft, but arent the best for hard dirt and especially difficult to use in clay
