Diego Stocco - Music From A Dry Cleaner

- Almost everyday, on my way to a local bakery, I walk in front of a dry cleaners.
When they have the front door open, I hear a lot of interesting sounds coming from their work equipment. Eventually, the different mechanical and steam sounds sparked something in my mind, so one day I asked the owners if I could record a piece of music by using their machines as musical instruments.
I used a puff iron, press and dry cleaning machines, a washer, clothes hangers, and a bucket full of soap.
The bass and lead sounds were created from the buzzing tones coming from the conduits and engines.
There are no additional sounds from any traditional or electronic instruments. Enjoy!

You are a true musician who finds music everywhere. I am impressed. Keep up the good work.
Un altro capolavoro… ma poi il ritmo e l’originalità che hanno i suoi pezzi è incredibile.
Complimenti!
You are very creative, the world is your instrument. The beauty of everyday things.
Just come back after 11 years to say, AI can never replace this type of spontaneity. Absolute class and stood the test of time.
that laundry motor shut down at the end was marvelous!
Ciao Diego,
è stupendo come hai dimostrato in un contesto "assurdo" come quello, che se si ha la musica dentro, non solo la si può fare ovunque, ma anche con qualsiasi cosa.

Sheer awesomeness. Not AN INCH LESS.
Music = Redefined and Reborn.
making music doesn't need expensive gears but idea and creative.
you are right but he's using a 4k pre into a 3k audio interface into a 2,5k laptop and some spare thousand dollars worth of mics, so I think it is a bargain within the two.
Diego is a luminary of the field
I love the work you do with sound. It's amazing, keep doing what you do!
Amazing, as always Diego!
1:47 that power down of the generator sounds just like the high to low drop you get in movies when the bad guy comes in, like blackwood in sherlock holmes..... love that sound !!
My respect!
This is amazing!! :D
amazing💥
Great music
well done!
this is really good Diego! I actually found it whilst searching for some music to play to some kids whom i'll be doing some music tech workshops with soon- they're going to be making music entirely out of found sounds.
Very smart! I like it
awesome dude
Yes, man, I love this! I can really see how passionate you are about music because you made a song at a freakin' dry cleaner's place! How awesome is that!?
Diego, I really think you should talk about your ideas and experience on a TED conference. This is very inspirational.
That was really impressive. Nice work Diego!
bloody brilliant!!!..can't wait to see what you do next : -)
Macgyver of music! This guy could create his own music genre with a rubberband, drinking straw, and a 1969 pontiac gto!

Great job recording and arranging! :-) I've been fascinated with this sort of production ever since I heard Gorillas In The Mix many years ago. Plus, I'm a percissionist and have always collected 'non-instrument' items that sound good! ;-)
Do you play an instrument? Me: Yes. Dry cleaning equipment.
"You can really make music with everything..."
I ADMIRE THE WAY YOU THINK...
cool man
Remembers me of Bjork's "Dancer In The Dark" soundtrack! Very nice

@trebleshooting Thanks, not this track yet, but I have several pieces up for free at my Bandcamp page.
I can't post links here but if you google my name and bandcamp they will show up.
How did you do the melodies that start at second 2:14, was that digital or also from the dry cleaner? Anyways, you're genius!
Hi Diego! We at cleantie.com loved it! Simply impressive. :)
Does it take you a long time to test out each sound before you put a tract together? So amazing what you can do:)
Is there somewhere I can buy or download this song, or any of your other music for that matte? This is so cool.
i want see that your music use somekind noise of steam locomotive or steam model.
you always nice works&we must be interest our around a noise.
*Esto es un poco de Todo*
Diego i love your setup it's so simple good idea to use Rode microphone with good API 500 rack, im also a noise freak who loved use unusual synth sound and some stuff i recorded with a litle shitty zoom h2, but i seriously need to buy more mic and a good preamp like yours, what did you recommend, im probably using a mobile recording machine like Tascam stuff.
Meteotrance If it's for a studio solution I would say go with API, if it's portable Roland R-44, and if you have more budget go with Sound Devices.
Thanks for the advice and quick answers ^^ im looking for a lunchbox 500, maybe i try to add some Neve pre amp stuff inside, Sound device seems to be interesting too.
@djborap Thanks, I'd love to, you could try sending an email, they might take it into consideration!
@dizplay Dal bon!!!
Are you working for a game company anywhere? some of your stuff I can REALLY picture inside of games especially the bassoforte one.
hehe im not good at all but i do the same when im at work XD hehehehe Thank you for this..im gonna show my workmates this hahahahahaaa
Wow...Are all the sounds from that room? No added sounds from the Mac?
