That panel that comes off the back is to use other modules with the scanner. I have a Thinktool Pros which has the same panel and uses the same software as that Kingbolen. Launch software. The modules that are compatible with my scanner and probably that one that attaches to the back are a printer, a work light, a battery tester, and a thermal imager. For my scanner there used to be a scope that attached back there too but they went to a different version that hooks up with a cord. I have the printer, work light, and battery tester for mine. They all work well.
Nice video on this tool. Not a bad price for it on Amazon.

Hi Sherwood! 🎉 I have that tool and Launch Pro 3s plus. I love mine! the module programming works very good. The nice thing is they stay up-to-date for two years at no charge and the charges are very inexpensive after that!

Launch based tools are quite good depending on the android level, I loved my think pro S, had an awful experience with Topdon ultimately i upgraded to the launch pad 7 .
Unbelievable power with European cars and excellent for US and Asia.
The only downside is lack of accessories for the expansion port in America

Sherwood, at the 11 min mark you were trying to see 15 different pids. The pids were there but they are on the second page. You have to move the camera icon on the right side of the screen and then hit the arrow and it will change to the other page. My Launch 431 V+ is the same way. I think the software in this Kingbolen is the same as the Launch platform, don't know for sure but they are very very close to the same. Hope that helps.

Thanks for this review. Never heard of this brand before. Outside of Snap-On and Autel, there isn’t much info out there to go on. Looks like a good one to have as a back up.

Looks like the Thinktool PROS which is like the Launch X431 minus the topology. I believe they are all Launch based and quite good for the money. I can't find too many accessories for the expansion port.

The recording is in the settings area where you enter your information like your profile. Hit the little gear at the top right. There should be a my report area that is different then the report area on the main app home screen.

I really like the variety of content you provide. This was a great overview of the Kingbolen scanner. It has lots of features, which got my hopes up when I read "budget scanner." But for a shop, a $700 scanner is fine. For a DIYer at home, I'll stick with my Veepeak 😂

Would be interesting to see a review of an Android tablet app such as Car Scanner ELM OBD2 with a Bluetooth OBD2 connector.
My thought is, I already own a $1000 tablet. Would a Bluetooth OBD2 connector and app be able to do most things an actual scan tool could do?

The real software is Thinkcar launch buys from thinkcar this is a fact not my opinion. Erik who used to work for launch took the relationship over to thinkcar when he started it. I’m a distributor.

The reason some things are slow is because it only has 2Gb of RAM. The K8 is a rebranded Launch, but the Launch 8 inch models have 4Gb of RAM.

I bought a scan tool I thought I researched it enough, not quite I am glad they're using a Ford, I bought mine for my F150 and was disappointed to learn that I couldn't use the special functions I couldn't disable the start stop. Very disappointed, so all I use it for is health scans and a couple other things, it really is useless to me, I get as much as I need out of a $30 dollar Launch I have.

The launch x431v is what I have been using for 6 years.
      I'm pleased with the performance.
Even though If I would have bought the one for programming. I still would have needed to buy the subscription.
      So I still like it.
The Pro3s is a very nice tool for the price. I have it in my basket. Waiting to buy it.

I have the pro3s+. One of the cheapest tools you will get that has topology. Make sure you get the new version with the new box (the thing you plug into the obd2 port). It will be faster and the can-fd is built in.

I like the Zeus but I’m not a fan of the fact it runs on Windows. The OS can be glitchy and requires a lot of patching and security software too. It’s slow to boot but once it’s up it works great. If you can live with a 2 channel scope as opposed to a 4 I like the Triton D10 better. The proprietary OS is quick. Boot up time is quick so if you want to turn it on and off to maintain battery life you can. If you need a shop solution and want the bells and whistles of shop key or Mitchell or other productivity tools instead of having that on a PC then Zeus it is. If you want a scanner and don’t need all that and a 2 channel scope is doable get the Triton D10.
