It might be a dirty cable...remove the cable and see if its slides easily within the housing...if it slides easily then it's probably what you suspect or something with the clutch basket springs or the mechanism that compresses them...

I feel like that return spring at the end of the cable is going bad on mine the cable doesnt return all the way and lets the clutch lever be loose
