I heard it yesterday on the radio and fell instantly in love with this song, with the voice and music. Had to search it. Mind blowing and heart touching!
To be in a totally catasthrophical mood, to hear this song and feel in an instant so amazingly touched by the music that feeling sad or angry doesn't make sense anymore. Eivør, thank you so much for your music and you angelical voice. Greetings from Spain.
gotta love this woman's vocals she transcends types of music her voice would work well with any style I would really love to hear her do a uplifting trance tune but wow what a voice
I love how Eivør basically doesn't need instruments, as her voice has both the lyrics and the melody. You're amazing, your voice gives me chills every single time. 💖
Quiero expresarte mi más profundo agradecimiento por tu increíble canción. Tu música me toca el alma de una manera que pocas cosas logran. Cada nota y cada palabra resuenan profundamente en mí, inspirándome y elevando mi espíritu.
wikipedia about aurora's genre brought me to neofolk (according to wikipedia) genre, and all of a sudden, I found out that there is this language called faroese that apparently sounds like elvish language (or maybe elvish language in fantasy settings is based on faroese). what?
I don't hear any similarity. Yet along with the old English literature JRR Tolkien took a lot of his inspiration from old Norse sagas. They say that today only Icelanders and Faroese people are capable to read them in original old Norse tongue. Other Scandinavian people, though understand them here and there, yet still might have difficulties in comprehension. That's because Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, ... were influenced by the roman languages in the Middle Ages and eventually changed. When I had been learning Norwegian, I was amazed how much it was similar to English at times. But Icelandic and Faroese still remain very close to the old Norse language. I'm not a Scandinavian. Nor am I a Faroese or Icelander. They could probably tell you more interesting facts about their tongues.
@@erithion aside from random changes made to try and break from old Norse, as well as changes in pronunciation like the silencing of “thorn”: Þ þ and “eth”: Ð ð the languages are very similar yes. Also... Norwegian has lots of similarities to German, English, etc because all evolved together with most Germanic languages, though English isn’t fully Germanic to be fair, but then again neither is Norwegian really... anyways Icelandic and Faroese broke away being from a different set of Germanic languages and un-influenced by Romance languages. Unlike English which has been battered this way and that😂 a good way to see the similarities are the words for “cold” and “eye”. English: cold German: kalte Norwegian: kalde English: eye German: auge Norwegian: auge Even Old Norse: auge
@@Bearclaw_Co. Norwegian's 'strøm' and 'råd' have similar Ukrainian equivalents 'струм' and 'рада', respectively. Or the Irish's 'guna' (gown) is pretty similar to the Ukrainian's 'гуня'. It doesn't make Ukrainian any closer to Norwegian or Irish, though. Moreover, I bet Norwegian's 'fyr' (bloke) shares the same origin with Irish's 'fear' (man). But Gaelic and Germanic language families are too far from each other. Words could be deceiving if taken solely. I meant the language lexicon in its entirety, so to speak. For example, although we, Ukrainians, and Belarusians have our own languages, yet we understand each other pretty well without translation. About 80% of the lexicons come from the same origin historically. Russians, on the other hand, do not understand Ukrainian language at all if they haven't been learning it on purpose. And having mentioned Norwegian, it still amazes me how a far from ideal knowledge of Norwegian language allows me to understand vocal Swedish or written Danish now and then. Not completely, but it's enough to make me feel that they share a good deal of lexicon. Yet neither English nor Norwegian get me any closer to understanding German. Of course one can argue that 'unnskyldning' and 'entschuldigung' have obviously the same stem 'skyld'. Yet there's too much of a change in both languages to make them mutually intelligible. I presume you are an Icelander. Do you understand Norwegians well and how well do they understand you? As for the Icelandic language itself, it sounds bewitchingly beautiful to my ear. Hope one day when I finish with Irish, which is pretty damn hard, I'll get to Icelandic. Amazingly beautiful language! BTW, old Norse 'auge' is Ukrainian's 'око' (reads as 'oko'). I guess such common old and well-known concepts like body parts must have some common and ancient Indo-European origin. So it is not a surprise. Nonetheless, in Russian it is 'глаз' (reads as 'glaz'). Although I speak Russian very well, I have no idea why and whence this word comes from.
@@erithion Oh man I respect you for tackling Irish🤣 I love the language but yes it is damn hard sometimes. I am not actually an Icelander, I’m an American teenager but my father was Norwegian and my mother Polish. I just like dabbling in different languages from my ancestors. It’s cool that you mention Ukrainian and Belarusian because while I can’t speak for Norwegians understanding Icelandic, I can say that even though I’m not yet fluent in Polish I can still understand Belarusian and Ukrainian. Though I can’t begin to attempt writing in either of the two😂 For instance though the Polish word for eye is ‘oko’ so same as Ukrainian, and probably other Slavic tongues, just not spelling wise. I appreciate you responding because I actually learned quite a bit from your response, so thank you!!! All the more reason to keep learning languages. I hope to one day attempt to learn Icelandic and then I actually want to try Irish and Scottish Gaelic. We shall see were the path of languages takes me.
@@Bearclaw_Co. Well, I can only wish you good luck with your linguistic plans and lots of patience! It's a nice goal you've chosen! And great languages!
I was watching an Eivor video the other day and apparenlty my wife caught me staring longingly into the tv a bit too long. Made her laugh. Then again, I've caught her staring a bit too long at Tom Hardy, so fair is fair.
