Kawasaki ZH2 - Laramoto gets blown away by this awesome supercharged machine!

  • Laramoto takes the Kawasaki ZH2 out for a spin. A supercharged spin in fact. It's a phenomenally fast machine and you need to ride one! The supercharger whine brings a smile to your face, packed inside a easy to handle supernaked frame. It rides as smooth as a well balanced triple at low speeds, and then blows your head off when you wring its neck.

    Have a tuned MT10 and stock ZH2. The Yamaha has better suspension, is more visceral, has more than enough power, is about 60lbs lighter, is the better track bike. The Kawi is smoother, friendlier, gets significantly better fuel mileage, has monstrous power, better brakes , has a much better dash, cornering abs and superior electronics package. Both great bikes but significantly different in how they feel.

      Really enjoy this comment. I have a mt10. Tuned also. But really thinking about a swap to the Z. If you only had one for everyday use. Which would it be?

      @@red.riot.2280 when u say tuned i take it u have had remapped ecu and decat with an aftermarket can? About 170bhp? Iv ridden an MT10SP with this mod and its a great bike for £12000. 2nd hand its a good all round bike. With comfort seat its very easy for touring 2 up. Only tank range is bad. Iv tried a stock mt10 as a lease bike and it was terrible.. never used it as I s1000r in the garage and chose to use that instead.. the zh2 is a totally 1 step ahead from the mt10. If it wasn't it wouldn't be more expensive than yamahas flag ship model. Iv owned all the 2018 -2020 supernakeds apart from the brutal and iv ridden the SF. Only crap bike was the cb1000r cafe neo and gen2 sdr wasn't up to standard. In comparison thr zh2 is easily the do it all supernaked for day to day use. It makes my 2019 tuono feel uncomfortable now and iv had to order bar raisers due to lean it has. I used to always consider my 2018 tuono to be comfortable and even toured Spain and France on it. I done back to back tests on both zh2 and tuono in Scotland for 4 days. Zh2 can do 52mpg on motorways. 30mpg mixed riding. Larger than average tank capacity. Upright ridding postion. Cruise control. No turbulence. Brakes and suspension are very confident. Electric/safety package are very competent. Only triggered traction control twice on bends. Bike can pull away at 30mph in 6th without any drama/judders. Engine is smoothest iv had. Almost Vibration free. Bike feels like an electric motor. QS up and down can operate at low revs. Engine is the most flexible iv ever experienced for going fast with engine braking and predictability when riding slow in town. It really is the most impressive bike iv ever owned and iv owend about 15 performance bikes in a range of differnt categories from touring to adventure. Only bad point was a thin seat. Iv got a comfort seat now. Try one 👍🏾

    I had to watch this video over and over again. The sheer exhilaration that Laramoto related throughout the video was perfect for describing what’s it like to ride a truly fast bike. Better then all the facts and figures her facial expressions, her loss for words at times, her repeatedly saying “supercharged” was superb in getting the true reason you buy a bike like this. It’s not for everyone of course but she made it clear if you forgot how absolutely bonkers riding a motorcycle can be, like many first bike experiences no matter how big the bike, the Kawasaki should definitely be taken under consideration. Thanks Laramoto for sharing the fun!

    Really good review! - The supercharger (I think it's got a supercharger?) - is so appealing. The old, what to get for the next bike. Is it slow and comfy like a Scrambler 1200, fast like an R1, or a bit left field like the Zh2. The R1, clearly you can't use all / any of the performance on the road, so therefore true of the Zh2, however, is the character of the supercharger worth it alone?

    • @Laramoto

    I agree with your preference for being able to enjoy the full performance of a machine. The overabundance of power seems a bit pointless beyond the "wow look at me" factor. Bet it gets through rear tyres quickly.

    • @Laramoto
      @Laramoto  4 года назад

      Yeah - a good 600 rider will keep up with a thou rider (at amateur level at least!). Tyres weren't too bad because the TC did all the work. But its asking to be thrashed. See video for case in point!

    Some wonderful observations. Thanks for a brilliant review.
    I too wonder about the merit of having more power than I can use on the road. I love the looks of the Ducati Super Sport S and its 113bhp is more than enough for the road.
    When voting with my wallet however the 150/160 bhp Multistrada was the bike I purchased. Maybe there is a threshold for power that is useful for the road (say 100ish bhp like the Super Sport). And a threshold for generating a positive feeling that you have enough bhp in terms of value for money/current state of the art/bragging rights. In 2020 160 ish bhp is a good number. I’d buy a 160 bhp (and slightly larger) Super Sport in a heart beat!
    Over 200bhp bikes start to have some interesting design compromises including developing massive heat, but the main compromise is the power being developed at very high revs.
    A recent test in the US saw a 15 year old K5 GSXR1000 beat a 2020 210+bhp Ducati V4. The old bike just delivered its power in a way that resulted in a faster lap time, beating the red bike by over a second.
    Thanks again for a great review. Oh and risking the horrors of goose poo!

    • @Laramoto
      @Laramoto  3 года назад +2

      Thank you so much for your detailed response, that was a really interesting read, especially the bike comparison. It is truly how well the equipment is matched to the environment that gives you the best performance. Didn’t think about heat, great observation.
      I guess the Bugatti Veyron was tricky not because of the power they could create, but how they’d get it to the tyres - it’s the drive shaft and clutch that deserve the credit!
      Good shout on the Multistrada - the recent ones are quite good looking! Followed one for a while round the Pyrenees 😛

    I'm local to Derby and considering getting a test ride on this as I see the dealership has a weekend of test rides coming up. I've been a long time owner of an MT10 and I honestly would take allot of convincing that there is a road bike out there more fun than the Yamaha.

    • @Laramoto
      @Laramoto  4 года назад

      Hello Banditman and fellow Derbados occupant! You should meet @marcello petrucci (he's commented on the Zh2 vid also). Martello said: 'I have a tuned MT10 and stock ZH2. Both great bikes but significantly different in how they feel.' - guess you best get yourself over to @derby kawasaki ;)

    Love your review. You mentioned being able to use all the machine has to offer. I don't think any supersport, hypernaked, and maybe anything over 400 cc's(sporty bikes) are going to be utilized fully on the street. Pick a 600 supersport, get to redline in first two gears, you are already breaking the speed limit, worse for a liter bike probably won't get out of first. Also, I don't like being at the bikes' limit, that is where it gets sketchy for me. I like knowing there is always just a little bit more there if I need it, nothing worse than pegging it and waiting for an eternity for the vehicle to get "there". But, this bike delivers in the usability category, want to pass a car? Drop down a gear, if you want to and or just open the throttle and go. Want to show off, drop down two gears and whack the throttle open, instant wheelie. There is this sense of having more power than you could possibly utilize and that is the bonkers part that also says you can do things you never thought possible. 50 mph top gear, want to pass, it will take 3 seconds to get past that car. Cannot do that in a car (that I can afford), have a shorter distance, drop down to 3rd whack it open, you can get it to 2 seconds (well, just under by my internal chronometer). Very stable, easy to ride, kind of a challenge in parking garage, but a hoot to just get "there". Just my 2 cents. Have a great day, thank you for what you do.

      Hello Mark - thank you so much for your comment and support. It's a well written observation and yes, you're spot on with what the first 2 gears on a 600 can reach. It's why I enjoyed riding the electric Artisan so much (ruclips.net/video/R5_1YMp7yg0/видео.html just in case you were curious) because I didn't have to watch the speedo all the time... but it did certainly suffer when I wanted to get somewhere, there was no 'get out of jail free' card when I needed some gas because the boredom cages had closed me in.
      The ZH2 does whatever you want it to, wherever you want to. But its a high price tag and the supercharger noise (did I mention that) is addictive, possibly dangerously addictive. It's a big un too but something I'd happily practice more wheelies on... ;) Thank you for your thoughtful comment and ride safe!

      See i can exploit a super nakeds potential on the road. Im wide open throttle when ever I have the chance whilst out in the countryside. U reach a vtwin potential like a sdr at higher revs doing legal speeds. The zh2 goes behind this.
