I'm American, and I've had friends visit from England and Ireland. They both said no to biscuits and gravy. They just wanted tea. They came to the kitchen when I was dipping up, and the aromas changed their minds! They ate it and asked for more.
I manage a brunch kitchen...we serve A LOT of biscuits and gravy. We even have an item that's a biscuit breakfast sandwich smothered in gravy. Over easy egg, choice of breakfast meat and cheese, then boom...onto the biscuit and hit it with the gravy. Honestly, if I had to choose my last meal, that would be part of it.
Jelly is made from the juice of the fruit. Jam is made from the juice and pulp of the fruit. Preserves are made from the whole fruit.
Biscuits and gravy is my #1 favorite breakfast meal. And it's not a scone, it's made with different ingredients than a scone. When I was a kid, I used to visit my grandparent's horse ranch for a week in the summer. My grandmother always made homemade biscuits and gravy once or twice for breakfast because she knew it was my favorite.
a scone is the closet thing they have there but yeah, they aren't quiet the same. Southern buttermilk biscuits just taste way better.
It is my favorite breakfast too.
The “steak” is a cubed steak (or minute steak). It’s breaded the same way you would bread and fry chicken. It’s really easy to make and it’s really good. 😉
If you can't buy cube steak there you can make your own by taking a sirloin and hit it with a tenderizing mallet. Bread it in a flour and seasoning mixture like you would fried chicken and fry.
I was gonna say its the steak version of a chicken cutlet lol
Country fried / Chicken fried steak is basically schnitzel. It's more like the real schnitzel than any you will get in Germany these days. This dish was developed by German immigrants to Texas and later spread to much of the South. CFS makes the leanest cuts from the leanest cattle into something delicious.
@@Bacopa68i had no idea about that and never even thought a out getting chicken fried steak lmao…now i gotta try it…
Biscuits are not scones, and there are a lot of different types of gravy, this particular one is generally used for biscuits and is a white gravy made with sausage. yes chicken fried steak is beef, usually a inexpensive cut of beef that the butcher tenderizes (usually called cubed steak). It is seasoned, floured and fried.
Exactly.
Great info. North Alabama folks even have chocolate gravy. Yummy!
@@auburnkim1989never had chocolate gravy but I’m curious as to how it tastes as someone who’s from the Florida panhandle (colloquially known as south Alabama)
Biscuits and Scones are in a whole nother universe. Biscuits are lighter and fluffier and flaky. A Scone is more denser and heavier in my honest opinion than a biscuit.
@Auburnkim my best childhood friends mom would make us biscuits & chocolate gravy. Omg, sooo good! It's the only place I ever had it. ❤❤
American biscuits are something of an art form. They're also universal as breakfast sandwich buns and dinner rolls. You can't go wrong with it any way you eat it.
I'd make a argument that the only bad biscuit is the biscuit that was in the warmer for too long...
@@kevinwise1997 Well, you're not wrong...
I prefer restaurant biscuits to my own. Some people are just better at making them flaky!
My family only has dinner rolls at Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter and I never had biscuits and gravy until college.
@@rosielahrman2033I’ve got a couple secrets to flaky! I’ve realized that the dough should actually be REALLY thick - like 1.5” thick when cut
What's crazy is the best gravy to put on biscuits has only a few ingredients; breakfast sausage and it's grease, milk, flour, salt & pepper lol.
We've always used bacon grease, with the sausage. Haha best of both worlds
I think brits could understand all this better if we called it bechamel sauce. I'm pretty sure a French person would understand cream gravy.
For those wondering southern sweet tea is made with black tea boiled and mixed with sugar before being left in the fridge to chill overnight.
Watching these videos always makes me wonder if British people would freak out watching sweet tea being made. Growing up, we had a big pot that was used for cooking either greens or sweet tea. We'd fill it with water, boil it, then throw in 10-12 tea bags. Then tons of sugar gets dissolved in before you pour it in a pitcher to chill in the fridge.
In the USA jam is a sweet fruit spread made from the whole fruit. Jelly is also a sweet spread, but made only from fruit juice without any bits of actual fruit.
If you get good biscuits and gravy. There's nothing better on the earth.
I have been a Southerner my whole life and those who came before me:) Biscuits and gravy are a staple on a Southern breakfast table. Not just that though. You will have eggs, bacon or sausage, pancakes, jam, fried potatoes, or hashbrowns along with biscuits and gravy. Yes, at one meal! If you ask old ones or older like myself our parents had to work in the cotton fields and needed a huge breakfast for backbreaking work. It has carried on to eat like this whether you work hard or not. Calories....wow! Don't ask, just eat lol.#10
"Yes, at one meal!" Ha Ha. As a lifelong Okie, I'll add fried potatoes & onions. And while it's not breakfast food, fried okra is an occasional treat.
I've often encountered the terms "country fried" and "chicken fried" being used interchangeably. It's breaded with a similar batter as fried chicken, then deep fried. Many of the midwest state fairs do the same thing with pickles, oreo cookies, ice cream, etc.
"Country Fried" and "Chicken Fried" involve the same kind of gravy; similar to Bechamel sauce but with ground black pepper instead of nutmeg.
The States really like to deep fry things, especially at state fairs in the summer. But just to be clear, the breading differs depending on whether you're doing something savory or sweet. The batter can range from similar to fried chicken coating to pancake batter.
I always thought Country Fried Steak was cubes steak and Chicken Fried Steak was chicken. Idk anymore
I believe it's more often pan fried, you don't get batter that caramelized without overcooking the steak unless there is contact with the pan, but they do use a lot of oil.
@@SherriLyle80s They are both breaded fried cube steak but country fried is brown gravy and chicken fried is white, peppery gravy.
Biscuits and scones are very different. Much flakier and fluffier (much higher butter content and different ingredients.) As for the gravy, what I have come to realize is Brits think there is only one type of gravy. But there are actually dozens of types of gravy. 6:10 its just a steak cooked like fried chicken. It is very common all over the US.
That thing where they seem flummoxed with the idea that there's more than ONE type of gravy makes me think of someone that thinks vanilla is the only kind of ice cream!
what many british people who react to american food don't seem to realize is that america has a lot of the same foods that they have in the UK; like we have the UK's version of gravy and roast but we also have other kinds of gravy, just like we have cookies and tea and other UK staples. there's just so much more variety in the US because it's a mix of different cultures.
As a foodie, a native of Southern Georgia, and a fan of your channel, contact me of you want to try the food of our a state. I’ll be your tour guide and show the best of our native cuisines!
Country fried steak uses cubed steak, which is a thin steak run through a tenderizer. It's uniformly thin and has a sort of checkered texture. That's then breaded and fried. It's very common in the South, usually served with mashed potatoes and cream gravy.
And cream gravy is actually bechamel sauce derived from French cuisine. Food traditions of the South are mostly English, but there is a big input from France, Germany, and West Africa.
The best biscuits and gravy I've ever had, was made by an elderly lady.
She made everything from scratch.
I gobbled it down so fast, she laughed and said that was the best compliment she got.😊
That lady is so right. It gives me great joy to see people gobble up anything I’ve made from scratch. Bread, pies, applesauce. Especially if they’ve never had it before. I love it.
The country fried steak is actually a piece of beef sirloin that is tenderized with a meat mallet (like a hammer that has prongs) until it is thin. It's then dipped in flour, then in beaten egg then into a mixture of flour and spices. Then it's fried in a cast iron skillet with oil or melted shortening until its golden brown. Very good with mashed potatoes and gravy.
We also eat biscuits and gravy in the Northwest part of the country .
When Ollie announced to Josh, that his grandmother had passed that morning, it was an emotional moment. It's hard to tell others when a family member has died. Josh showed respect. ❤
My grandparents were farmers, they ate like that at Breakfast because they needed fuel for a hard days work. Biscuits, gravy, eggs & bacon was a normal morning meal for them. Lunch was a somewhat lighter meal but still substantial fare but supper was a smaller & lighter meal. They both lived into their 90's and were healthy & active well into their late 80's.
Biscuits and sausage gravy taste great! But, they certainly aren’t a healthy breakfast option!😂
I would eat it every day, all day. It's really that good.
Buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy. Can't go wrong. A little butter too😋
you have not lived till you have had chicken fried Steak
The gravy is pork breakfast sausage scrambled in a frying pan, and you add milk and then flour to thicken. Then, it served over biscuits seasoned with salt and pepper.
As a man that grew up in the northern United States (New York), when I moved south (Arkansas), EVERYONE was eating biscuits and gravy. I had heard about it, but never had it. I was very nervous about trying it because I new I was probably going to like it and it looks like a heart attack on a plate. I was right. I love it and I’m now hooked. 10 out of 10
Have you tried okra and tomatoes? The risk here is not to the heart, but the large intestine. If you ate okra as a kid, you will be ok. If you just eat small amounts of okra as an adult you'll be OK. But gorge on okra because it's so delicious when well prepared, it's coming out the other end pretty fast.
@@Bacopa68 yes, I’ve had both fried okra and fried green tomatoes. I didn’t care for the fried tomatoes and only had it the one time. I do eat fried okra sometimes, since it’s usually offered as a side in most southern restaurants, but It’s not my favorite. My wife loves it and has it often.
Country fried steak/chicken is seriously unbelievable! It's a must try.
As a born and bred Southerner, I love watching reactions (especially British) to our food 😂
They need to get a little more deep into Southern food. Give them okra and tomatoes, fried okra, winter harvest greens like collards or Swiss chard. Or how about the best two southern dishes, blackeyed peas on cornbread or butterbeans on cornbread?
Think of country fried chicken or steak the same as German schnitzel. A schnitzel is a thin slice of meat. The meat is usually thinned by pounding with a meat tenderizer, then breaded before frying. Breaded schnitzel is made using veal, pork, chicken, mutton, beef, or turkey.
Biscuits and gravy is the ultimate comfort food. Country fried sometimes called chicken fried steak is also amazingly good. The breading is not as crunchy as fried chicken but has lots of flavor and the steak should almost melt in your mouth.
Yeah, I kinda use the 2 names interchangeably. Although, some would argue that brown gravy makes it "country fried", and white gravy makes it "chicken fried". BTW, Hardees used to have a steak biscuit, and it was Country Fried Steak (peppery, no gravy), and it was AWESOME!
I almost forgot how common country fried steak with gravy was in school lunches growing up. It was my favorite lunch to look forward to as a student. I don't know if any other schools had that combo but it was common in the ones I went to.
NO, ITS NOT DEEP FRIED!
A chicken fried steak is basically a breaded/seasoned cube steak which is pan fried like fried chicken. Hence the name. You then top it off with a country gravy which is different from the sausage or sawmill gravy which is used for biscuits & gravy.
Biscuits and gravy is simple but super super good. 30/10
The difference in the gravy is just the amount of flour that is used versus a traditional brown gravy. That's because the sausage has all the flavor you need. So it will typically be thicker and more white than its counterparts. Traditional brown gravys the flavor has to come from the stock so you use a lot less flour.
And milk. The main ingredients are oil, flour, and milk. It’s based on a beschemel sauce
Biscuits and gravy is incredible and if you have milk, flour butter, baking powder, salt and pepper you can make it VERY easily. It's better with whole buttermilk, but still outstanding either way.
For the Sausage (aka Cream aka Country) gravy all you need is 2TBSP flour, 2 TBSP Butter, and two cups whole milk. (Or 1.5 cups milk and .5 cups cream if you want to spoil yourselves).
Melt the butter then add the flour and stir until thoroughly combined.
Add the milk and stir frequently until it thickens, then serve over hot biscuits.
If you are going to add sausage, do so before your final seasoning because there is a ton of spice in sausage.
Country fried steak and Chicken fried steak both use steak and chicken breading. They can be deep fried but pan frying is much more common and superior (more caramelization of the coating). The only difference is that country fried steak has normal (brown) gravy and chicken fried steak uses cream gravy.
Don't drink tea with biscuits and gravy. The dish is very strongly flavored and rich and the subtle flavor of tea will be lost in it.
The difference between American biscuits and scones: aside from the fact that one is made for sweeter applications they are also different in ingredients. American biscuits often use buttermilk, while scones are made with milk and eggs.
Southern buttermilk biscuits are flour biscuits bonded with buttermilk or sour milk and very cold salted butter crumbled , rolled out an inch thick , cut into shape and left to rest before baking ! The gravy is a white pepper sauce with pork sausage and onion, thicken to a breakfast gravy ❤ loved around the world by many ! In the states there are six main gravies used in our foods and restaurants ❤
Good guess from Millie. Chicken Fried Steak is Top Sirloin (or occasionally Top Round). But not normal Top Sirloin/Round. It's pounded with a textured wooden mallet in a process called Cubing, (so the end result is called Cube Steak). The meat is far more tender than usual for those cuts.
Well, you really need the cheapest and leanest beef you can find. Middle round steak is the best, but any lean grass fed beef or a "retired" dairy cow will also work. You want the leanest and "worst" beef possible. You then need to pound the crap out of it with a METAL meat hammer, pounding it as thin as you can.
You then put the pounded beef bits into a mix of flour, salt, black pepper, and cayenne powder, dip them into a milk and egg batter, and then back into the flour mix. Fry the beef as hot as you can in cast iron cookware you inherited. Make Cream Gravy in the skillet after you are done.
we had biscuits and gravy every Sunday morning growing up. i should move across the pond and open a restaurant serving American classics. "the Louisville Slugger"
We have brown gravy that we use on things like mashed potatoes and sometimes on meat it is thin or runny if you will, and I think it may be what you are use to.
One of our great culinary advances in recent years is the rise of these biscuit-specialty restaurants, like probably the one here. Basically a variety of sandwiches on the menu made with biscuits instead of regular bread - breakfast, lunch & dinner. There’s one near me called The Biscuit Bar.
Even Mr and Mrs H Love them 😅❤
You are absolutely right about KFC Chicken. Country fried steak is steak fried the same way you would fry chicken.
The gravy for biscuits and gravy is usually white gravy (made with the drippings in the pan mixed with flour and milk). It usually contains sausage for breakfast, but when used on country fried steak has the drippings from frying the steak.
Southern comfort food as a whole can't be beat.
It IS an acquired taste - the first time you acquire it you have a taste for it. If you have taste, that is. 😁
There are so many gravies in the US that when you order you have to ask what kind of gravy is it? Is it a roux based (butter & flour cooked), or a pan-based drippings from cooking a meat, or is it a red eyed gravy from the ham and....coffee (yes, coffee). And that is just touching the tip of the iceberg.
OK, once again: Jelly is kinda 'clear' because it is made from the juice of a fruit. Jam is made from the fruit itself cooked down to thickness.
Jelly, no seeds. Jam has seed. Preserves have chunks of fruit in them.
American " white gravy" is bechamel sauce with sausage or bacon, whatever protein chosen but sausage is the most common. It's really not as odd as foreigners think at first once you understand it's Bechamel with sausage.
The gravy in biscuits and gravy is also called "cream gravy" when it's served on things like chicken fried steak. With biscuits it is automatically assumed you want cream gravy. We also call the usual brown pan sauce gravy.
Never heard it called cream gravy.
We just call it pepper gravy
We call that country gravy
It's French. That's why brits don't understand it. It's bechamel made the way poor people in France made it 200 years ago. I am sure a French person would understand cream gravy. And a German would understand that chicken fried steak was probably more like the real schnitzel poor Germans ate 200 years ago than anything called schnitzel in Europe.
Some call it sawmill gravy.
Biscuits and gravy are like the best hug ever only for your soul. It’s that simple.
Biscuits and gravy is it’s own food group! My favorite is 2 split biscuits placed in a square, 4 sausage patties on top, covered with 4 scrambled eggs with cheese, then smother the entire thing in gravy covered with a lot of ground black pepper. Can eat it any time of day.
Damn, that's a lot of food. Making me hungry.
Chicken (country) fried steak is made with cheaper cuts of beef than ribeyes, t-bones, or filets.
I make mine with sirloin but we generally use beef we have to tenderise with a meat mallet.
It can also be bought from the store as pretendersied cube steak at least here in Texas.
It's put into an egg wash, put into flour, then either deep or pan fried.
It's coated in the same manner as fried chicken so it's name became chicken fried steak.
It's the state dish of Oklahoma.
It's extremely common all over the USA but best in Texas.
You're right but if I were making it at home I'd probably use trimmed NY Strip steak. It can only be better using a naturally tender cut.
I'm a New Yorker and hadn't been introduced to Biscuits & Gravy until my late 30's. 10 out of 10.
Had I known of it I'd have been eating it all my life. The reason the High Schoolers, who said they didn't like it, was they were trained to dislike all things American. That was obvious. The ones who did their own thinking showed how much they liked it immediately.
If you watch "Irish People Try" you'll see that automatic dislike on pretty much everything American...except of course any of the alcohol.
When someone tells you that an American biscuit is, "like a scone", there are two things you need to remember: (1) they're not saying, "it's a scone!" and (2) they're lying; if an American makes biscuits that come out anything like a scone, they suck at cooking.
Ollie is so expressive, when you find the right spot to itch his leg goes, his eyes roll back and all of the muscles can no longer hold position
I make it 3xa week. It's very economical, and delicious. By the way, you can make southern sweet tea at home. 5-10 tea bags, 4 liters of water, 1 cup sugar. The secret is to boil the water, tea, AND sugar together. It totally blends and becomes one thing. That's why it tastes different then just putting sugar in tea.
The British high schooler video had mixed reactions? It was like at least 80% favorable lmao.
Being from the South (and I have Midwestern friends who have the same experience) when I’d come home from college during holidays I’d wake up to the smell of biscuits and sausage gravy in the morning. It’s the most wonderful thing in the world.
Millie start eating biscuits and gravy. Baby comes out with a southern accent. "Hey Yee'all" and "Bless your heart".😂😂
Come to Georgia for the best southern food, including biscuits and gravy!
Absolutely!! 😋
Nah Tennessee has you beat
The b&g in that high schoolers try video was a TRRRIBLE representation of biscuits & gravy
Biscuits and gravy is like a top 10 meal of all time for me.
Chicken fried steak is awesome. Don't take a ribeye and coat it in flour and deep fry it. haha. It's a particular cut and it's thin.
Chicken fried steak is amazing. The Cuban restaurants near me make a thing called beef malanesa (I probably miss-spelled that.)
It's basically a cheese pizza made on a chicken fried steak, and it's amazing.
I once travelled around Europe eating nothing but fried breaded veal cutlet. In every country they have it but by a different name. In Italy it's "Vitello Milanese". In Germany and Austria it's Wiener Schnitzel of course. In France, it's escalope de veau panée. But they all have the same dish by another name. Your Cuban restaurants are just adapting the recipe to a different meat (veal is harder and harder to get in the US and more expensive plus some people are just turned off by the idea of it). Obviously, fried chicken breast cutlets are also the same thing.
Yeah, it's Milanesa, and some Mexican restaurants serve it, too. It really just refers to the thin breaded and fried beef cutlet. It's pretty common to serve sandwiches (tortas) with it. It's kinda like a German Schnitzel.
That’s the origin of chicken fried steak too. German immigrants to Texas adapting to different ingredients.

i laugh everytime someone first learns about country fried steak with sausage gravy their reaction is priceless
Country/Chicken fried steak is made with Cube steak. The difference is "Country" is made with brown gravy, and Chicken is with white gravy.
The biscuits are buttery, the gravy is sausage gravy which has American style breakfast sausage crumbled in it as well as being made with the sausage grease. There’s no cheese. Though you could make a cheese sauce instead like for macaroni.
The other dishes were ‘fancy’ interpretations of breakfast sandwiches. Chicken fried/country fried steak isn’t really deep fried. It’s a cheap cut of steak, pounded thin to tenderize it, then breaded and pan fried _like chicken_ and served with white gravy which is just seasoned with salt and pepper rather than having sausage. Breakfast sandwiches are pretty common just usually simpler and without gravy. Even most fast food places will have chicken biscuits or sausage biscuits, maybe even steak biscuits on their breakfast menu. Ham biscuits are a common country breakfast sandwich.
Tender and flaky are common descriptions of biscuits. 👍
The three most common ways to eat biscuits: with butter and/or with something sweet such as honey or jam, as breakfast sandwiches with meat and/or eggs, or split open and topped with sausage gravy.
It's my favorite meal! But I prefer white gravy not the brown.
Absolutely love biscuits and gravy! And the Beesleys! And Jolly!
Biscuits and gravy are great! I like to instead of putting gravy on a biscuit, I dip a sausage biscuit in gravy. mostly because I hate soggy bread if any kind. Biscuits taste nothing like scones, they're more savory-no sugar in the recipe- and very soft & fluffy. They really are like a hug. Chicken fried steak or country fried steak (depends on what part of the US you're in) is an extremely tenderized piece if beef, coated in egg wash & flour & fried. Best served with white gravy, which is made with milk instead of water.
Country fried or chicken fried steak isn’t like a proper steak. It’s usually made out of cubed steak. Google cubed steak to maybe get a better idea. It’s usually a tough or cheaper type of steak.
Every morning my mother made biscuts. She did it by hand without a cutter. It took her less than ten minutes to have a pan in the oven. I was so lucky!!
I know you guys are friends with Mr. H and his family because I remember you mentioning it in an earlier video. Mrs. H made the biscuit and sausage gravy in their kitchen. They were in different videos. The biscuit was on their own and the sausage gravy was with country fried steak. Recipe for all those as well as SWEETENED iced tea are online. I have no idea about unsweetened iced tea but I bet there's some out there.
i haven’t drank sweetened ice tea in over 60 yrs. as a kid growing up in the south, i hated sweet tea….so my mom made me un sweetened ice tea and i still drink un sweetened ice tea in the south. same as today, i drink coffee black…no sugar or cream. believe it or not we do drink ice tea unsweetened in the south.
Biscuits are just bread that can be good or bad; but when you add something like butter or gravy it becomes a magical experience.
I love that Ollie describes it like I did, I am so sorry for his loss and I’m glad that this dish brought him comfort.
Hands down! Biscuits and gravy forever!!!!!
The gravy in biscuits and gravy is like a béchamel white sauce with crumbled cooked sausage (pork, usually) stirred in and allowed to simmer. Not sure why the one on the video is so yellow/orange - maybe it’s been spiced up with cayenne or something? The sausage, of course, is the mince only, without casing like a hot dog.
It's most likely the lighting of the place. Not that I have anything against it but lighting does have an impact.
it was swimming in butter. the name of the place alone screams, no southern sausage gravy here.
they pound the steak very very thin then batter it and deep fry!!! it is wonderful!!! cream gravy on top
OMG, we need "The Beesleys cook southern biscuits and gravy with sweet iced-tea" at home video!
I can’t wait to watch you enjoy all the different foods!!
I'm going to have to go out for breakfast tomorrow and have biscuits and gravy!😋
Chicken fried steak is wienerschnitzel given over a hundred years to mutate. There are a lot of Germans and other central Europeans in Texas.
The way my mother used to make tea. It was called sun tea. She would get a glass container. Fill it with water and then add tea packets. She would then leave it out in the sun all day. The sun would slow brew the tea. After that, she would bring it in and add how much sugar was needed.
Chicken/Country fried steak is (usually) cube steak that has been pounded into oblivion prior to cooking. It's quite thin. And delicious.
Good job James! The best description of a hood biscuit is tender. Lightly crusty on the oitside and fluffy and moist in the middle.
I just saw that video the other day and thought, the Beesleys should see this!
I made chicken fried steak and country gravy just last week here in the PNW, USA. The steak is called cube steak in the grocery store and is a cheaper cut of meat that is tenderized with a tool that cuts vertical cuts in it and pounded to 1/4 on an inch. The thick gravy is made from the drippings left in the pan after frying the meat and adding milk and flour. Wonderful if prepared correctly.
Southern biscuits are light, fluffy, & often buttery. It has a similar taste to a buttery croissant, & it has layers to it like a croissant, but the consistency is a very fluffy version of a scone - if that makes any sense. The gravy that's used on them is a sausage gravy with bits of sausage in it.
My sister would make biscuit dough, & sometimes use it to make cinnamon rolls, so it can be used for savory & sweet things.
Country-fried steak is a steak that's been pounded thin, then breaded & deep fried. The outside looks a lot like fried chicken. It often has smooth white sausage gravy on it when served on its own.
Losing a loved one is so sad…💔
God Bless you and your family…🙏🏻❤️
5:27 Chicken fried steak is made with cube steak, not anything fancy like you’re thinking of.
Once you guys finally make it to the states, your first meal here depending on the time of day you arrive and where you visit, should be BBQ, (Texas, Kansas City. Memphis or North Carolina), or a breakfast somewhere that has biscuits and gravy on the menu. Then your second supper should be Country or Chicken Fried Steak with gravy. Both are the same thing. If you have a Cracker Barrel restaurant nearby they serve both Country Fried Steak and biscuits and gravy. Do yourselves a favor and try the fried apples there too. You will fall in love...
I really like Cracker Barrel Restaurants and gift shops!!
My condolences on your loss Ollie.
Biscuits and red-eye gravy… a ridiculous splurge that’s worth every single calorie! The “cubed steak” is a thin cut round steak that’s pounded with a meat tenderizer, breaded and deep fried- then served with rice and buttermilk gravy. Yuuummmyyy
Country fried steak is also another name for chicken fried steak
Congratulations on the baby.
The number of Scots who settled in the American south influenced our cuisine. Biscuits are related to scones ,no sugar in the dough. Not always made with butter, sometimes with shortening.
Did you know those early Scots were the original “Rednecks”? They wore red fabric around their necks… TRUE HISTORY!! I believe it was related to religious persecution or battles in their homeland, Scotland…
Best breakfast in the south. Biscuits and gravy is a favorite. Lol, sweet tea is supposed to be sweet. Surprised it had no ice.
Country Fried Steak, sometimes called Chicken Fried Steak is a cut of beef that has been "cubed" with a mallet, marinated, breaded and fried.
It is very common, but being served as a sandwich is a "new thing".
We have scones in America.
They are delicious.
They are Not biscuits.
Southern biscuits are Amazing!
Far better than your beans on toast.
😂
Biscuits in America are filled with butter and flaky on the inside and crumbly on the outside.
Try Pillsbury biscuits, if you have them over there.
Next best thing to homemade.
You can also eat them with jam or honey butter as well for your English tea.
Breakfast biscuit sandwiches are great with egg and sausage or bacon with cheese are quite popular over here.
I don't think biscuits and baked beans really fit together as much.
But, whatever turns you on.
