What was the purpose of the steel ring you placed in the plaster of paris?

It gives support, In case of minor accidental cracks( like during it's finishing with knife) vase will not break that easily...

You can even skip plaster of Paris; only white cement will be fine too. And regarding gypsum, I don't have any experience with it 😊

Almost 75% cement and 25% pop.. you don't need to be exact .. just eyeball it

Cement alone is not easy to scrape off , that's why i used plaster of Paris with it ...

White cement is easily available and is cheap too .. and about Plaster of Paris , i never tried it but i think it'll work .. i suggest giving it a try .. make it in smaller size so it's easy to handle..
