The word cult means a religious system essentially. In its strictest form, it could apply to virtually any religious organization. However, colloquially it is used to refer to religious groups that have strange, peculiar, or un substantiated beliefs (practices etc.). A cult generally has beliefs and practices that are built on a man's (or group of mens) teachings as opposed to vetted truth. Basically it is just made up.

Thank you so much Rabbi...I never knew Paul's letters were not scripture... please answer this question for me... can you be something called a Hebrew Israelite... the men of this movement have multiple wives and says there are no laws that prevent them from doing this... the women are treated as property...
