I lived in Denver NC for 18 years, its a solid 4 hour drive from the coast so in most cases when Hurricanes do hit the area the damage is not nearly as serious. Clearly if you live on the lake you might have to consider things like flooding, and falling trees depending on where you stay can also be a concern with bad weather but by and large hurricanes are not a major concern for people living in the piedmont.
